Thanks, Laura. I fully expected to get diagnosed in Jan. by the doc. I expected the test to be negative. So, this all came as a HUGE surprise!! It could be some psychological fatigue, but I also overdid it yesterday, I was gone from 8-4!! So, I guess it's no surprise I'm exhausted today.

IgM is the positive indicator that you have a current active infection.

That's not correct for Lyme. It is correct for other "regular" infections.

Read this:

Western Blot explanation:

Open Original Shared Link

FROM THE ABOVE LINK:

With most infections, your immune system first forms IgM antibodies, then in about 2 to 4 weeks, you see IgG antibodies. In some infections, IgG antibodies may be detectable for years.

Because Borrelia burgdorferi is a chronic persistent infection that may last for decades, you would think patients with chronic symptoms would have positive IgG Western blots.

But actually, more IgM blots are positive in chronic borreliosis than IgG. Every time Borrelia burgdorferi reproduces itself, it may stimulate the immune system to form new IgM antibodies.

Some patients have both IgG and IgM blots positive. But if either the IgG or IgM blot is positive, overall it is a positive result.

Response to antibiotics is the same if either is positive, or both.

Hi all--

I'm on my way to bed--this has been one exhausting day. Went to the Gyn, and I'm having a hysterectomy next month. I have to call tomorrow to schedule it. It's been a long time coming, I just can't take this pain anymore. I was hoping I'd hit menopause and these things would shrink, but according to my blood tests, that could be 2 or 3 years away <_<

I get to decide how extensive I want the surgery to be. I really like this doctor, and trust him--I can tell he knows I came in well informed. :) I had hoped it wouldn't come to this, but under the circumstances, I think it's for the best. Sick of not feeling well!!!

Anyway, wanted to check in. Great to see Donna--she sounds like she's having a good time--and they're keeping the passengers safe. Glad to hear.

Speaking of food safety, there's a terrible E-coli outbreak here in our area--seems to be growing by the day. Green onions at Taco Bell are the apparent culprit. My older son ate at one in Maryland just the other day--luckily, I haven't heard Maryland mentioned. Keeping my ear out, though.

Andrea, thanks for remembering today :)

CarlaB Enthusiast

Patti, sorry for the bad news. Go with the one where they take the least ... is there no other alternative? Can't they do that surgery where they scrape out the lining of the uterus? It makes cycles stop, so if menopause was the answer, this may be a less extreme way to accomplish it. There are also pills that can put you into menopause, at least I think there are ....

I heard about the Taco Bell problem.

Carla,

I had the procedure you are talking about 2 years ago. It's called endometrial ablation. It did help with the heavy bleeding, but unfortunately, the fibroids I have are in the lining--so they weren't affected. They have grown quickly, and are causing severe pain. They are actually adhering to my bladder :o . (Sorry to be graphic). One of my ovaries is cystic, so I have decided to have it removed, too--and leave the other. That way, I'll still make my own hormones.

CarlaB Enthusiast

Too bad that didn't work for you. My doc mentioned it because of heavy menstruation, but I didn't see any need to do it for my own personal comfort ... nothing some iron pills wouldn't fix. That's good that you're keeping what you can. What a busy month January will be for us here in R'ville!

I almost ordered the coinfections test, but didn't want to call IGeneX ... I like the phone as much as Rachel likes the mailbox. I guess I need some motherly nagging from Andrea to order the test! :D

Ok, here's your nagging.

Just make the phone call and order the coinfections test. I will only take a few minutes and you need to know this before you appointment next month.

I hope Adam isn't gone long. :(

LOL, thank you ... I'll need it again tomorrow!! :D

I can't remember how long he'll be gone. He's flying down to Texas, I think. I actually think he'll be gone all week -- wined and dined by the vendor. I wish Morgan was home to take care of me. :P Just so long as Chloe and I have something here to eat, the other kids can always walk over to Domino's (you get two for one if you pick it up).

I had to call my dad today ... so I did that ... it was my one phone call. I really don't know when I developed this loathing of the phone ... I guess it was when I did a lot of youth work for the Church and most of it was over the phone (I directed people in other states). But now it's the same as what Rachel describes about paying bills ... I just can't make myself do it. I can't overcome the inertia. I even like talking to my dad but didn't want to call him. Weird. I hope treatment makes this weird stuff go away!!!

I would suspect that both yesterday's outing and getting your results have something to do with you being tired and sore today. Get some rest and we'll see you in the morning.

Patti......oh I have mixed feelings for you. :( I think it's traumatic that you have to go to this extreme.....but I am just so hoping that you'll feel so much better from it. I think you will. :) So sorry you're in this constant level of pain.....it will be so nice to see that go.

Carla.....holy cow, sometimes the phone is my lifeline to the world. Of course, you have many people coming in and out where you are.....I would go mad without the phone.

Darn - Gray's, a re-run? that is HEINOUS. Harumph!

Hi everybody.....yes, it is quiet here! Rachel, hope you feel better soon. All of this must be just overhwelming and boggling.

okay, I have some power at work now. ;) The other "shopgirl" quit because she is miserable there, so they are being EXTREEEEEMELY nice to me as they really need me. oh, and plus, I'm not scared and nervous (petrified is more what it was), as I was when I started.....have a lot more confidence and they dont' have to hover over me now. You know, you guys don't know my full background with the heinosity of working with my dysfunctional brain, at every job (except the winery and that was due to my wonderful boss and now lifelong friend who KNEW about my disorders and worked with me). so this small thing is really a big victory for me.....lets me know I can work, and think more clearly now, and that I'll look for a different job in the distant future, when I figure out what to do. :)

Um, shampooed the carpets YESTERDAY, and there are already muddy paw prints.:angry::angry: Couple of dingos are going to die tonight. :o:lol:

Sorry for my utter lack of scientificness.

HI DONNA!!!!! good thing they are being OCD on your cruise........ ;)

g'night everybody.

I'd definately be mad at those dogs .... I don't have carpet or dogs ... Birds are messy, but they at least stay in cages when you're not home!! :) Kids do that stuff, too, but I always make them clean up their own messes, to my standards!!

Hi Patti,

Fibroids are a bummer. I had a laparoscopic myomectomy by a specialist in Denver in April. I was happy with the results and I'm still fibroid free. I had 3 fibroids removed, all subserosal. I had one doctor who said he could only do it abdominally and not laparoscopically because of where the big one was located (8cm x 4cm roughly). He was a jerk, so I fired him. Anyhoo, feel free to PM me and I'll send you my link to my personal website with pictures of my surgery!

Also, if you want to ask questions about surgery, there is a pretty good forum on Yahoo Groups called Uterine Fibroids. You'll need a Yahoo account to sign in. You can ask questions about a lot of practical surgery stuff. Laparoscopic surgery is the way to go if you can get it.

Claire,

Thank you so much for the link and the information! I am content that I made the right decision in my case--I have some extenuating circumstances. ;)

Anyway, I'm glad it all worked out for you, and with any luck, I'll be able to say the same! :D

You're right--they are a bummer! Thanks again :)

where is everybody? What has happened to Rachelville? Where are Rachel and Rinne? OMG was a meeting called, a proclamation declared, that I missed?

All I can see for miles is tumbleweeds.

Susan,

I've been thinking the same thing.:lol:

Happy Birthday!!!!

Rachel! I see you!!!

I saw your post over on Susan's thread.

Glad to see you are braving the cold, cruel world.

I think this week has been pretty crazy for us all! I miss being on here. Eric's parents get here today so we've been trying to straighten up, plus get Christmas decorations out. Our tree is beautiful.

How are our Lyme ladies doing?

Adam and I had some champagne last night. BAD idea. I can't get out of bed today. Sometimes I can tolerate a little wine, sometimes I can't. I need to get it through my thick skull that the times I can't tolerate it makes it worth never having it! You'd have thought I drank a case of it as bad as I feel!!

It didn't help that he took the day off work and we went Christmas shopping ... we came home at 4, I took a nap, then we went out to dinner at 7. It was fun ....

Hi everyone.... :)

Yes....HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our dear friend Susan.....who's Dingo's have forgotten her on her special day. Those darn selfish dingo's....I'm sure they'll be staring at her later on today....expecting a walk or something.

Luara, I'm glad that you are keeping busy....getting in the holiday spirit and all that good stuff. We miss you too! :)

I've been around....leaving the "safety" and comfort of Rachelville to speak my mind on other threads. Probably driving everyone mad.

I still have to post about my Bioset visit last Thursday. Hopefully I'll get around to this tonight. I gotta take care of some other stuff today.....I'm gonna go back to Mervyns and get myself another electric blanket so I can be just as warm and happy here in Manteca. :D

The electric blanket is GREAT....also it was 50% off....I hope it still is. It was normally 80 bucks but I got it half off. Not a bad deal to get 2 blankets for the price of one! :D

After all.....its for my health. :P

Patti....I'm sad that you have to have surgery but I hope it helps and you feel alot better......thats the main thing. :)

Susan.....guess what.....Yes, we all know that I'm a procrastinator and have some type of envelope/mail phobia  .....*but* I have handed over your envelope to my mom. It is *guaranteed* to be mailed on Monday morning. :D

Oh....thats great that the bosses arent hovering over you anymore.....adding to your stress. I hope they've gotten over trying to stifle your personality....I dont think its possible. They would just have to let you be you and be thankful that they've got some good help in their store. :)

Yeah.....what happened around here?? Tumbleweeds for daaaaaaays.

Hello one and all! We were in Georgetown, Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands today...tomorrow Cozumel, Mexico! We were supposed to sail on a pirate ship today, but it got cancelled...not to worry...shopping saved the day.

A special Caribbean HAPPY BIRTHDAY to SUSAN!!!!!!!

Carla - I hate the phone too. Absolutey put off to the last moment all things that involve phone calls, lol. Congratulations on your diagnosis and for ordering the co-infections test!!

Patti - another great website is www.hystersisters.com .... lots of info there. I know it isn't always the same for everyone, but my hysterectomy was absolutely, without a doubt, the best thing I did. My fibroids were extremely painful and causing all sorts of problems; it's been such relief since then.

Rachel - also really warm and toasty are electric mattress pads. I got one because I couldn't find an electric blanket that was warm all over...it seemed like they were warm where my body was, but if I moved my legs, the rest of the best would be cool. The mattress pads are (at least the one I got at Linens'n'Things) is warm all over...constant. :P Just love that thing to pieces.

Hi everyone--quiet day! I guess we're all busy getting ready for the holidays. Hope you all are having a nice weekend.

How nice to hear from Donna :)

Susie, hope you're having a wonderful evening and enjoying yourself tonight. :D

I've never used an electric blanket, but all this talk about them (and the freezing cold weather we're all of a sudden having) is making one sound better and better :P

But, tonight I'll have to make do with my down-alternative comforter :D Nite all -_-

I had an electric blanket at one point about 7 years ago and I agree, it wasn't warm all over.

Hi Donna! :D

Funny you should mention this because I just came from Mervyns....got my new blanket. :)

They had electric mattress pads this time....I didnt see them last time.

Anyways, I stared at them for a moment but decided to stick with the blanket cuz I had no idea what the mattress pad was???

Do you just sleep right on top of it or what??

I like having a blanket cuz you can carry it around with you....I can wrap it around me while I'm on the computer and stay toasty. Can this be done with a mattress pad thingy??

I better stop talking about my blanket so much....my mom was making fun of me...calling it my "blankie".

She's happy though...cuz ever since I got it I've actually gone to bed early! :o

The test result will never be shown as zero because the most negative the result can be reported as is less than the lowest amount the test can detect.  For example, you might see <2. What is the normal range for your daughter’s test?  Antibodies can hang around in the body for a while. Even if her result is not yet in the normal range, going from more than 100 to 9 in a few months is great! Good job, mom.

My daughter has been gluten-free about 4 months. Prior, her tTG was over 100 (test maxed at 100). Her liver, iron, vit d are all normal again and she has grown 2 inches and gained 4.5 pounds in just 4 months! It's amazing. But her tTG is still at 9. Is that normal or should it be zero? Is she still getting gluten? We are SO strict. We don't eat out.  She was previously having tummy pain still. I cut oats completely 3 weeks ago and that is gone.  Can gluten-free oats raise tTG? Would I know based on symptoms? I was going to try her on oats again now that she doesn't say her tummy hurts anymore.  Also, our house is gluten free apart from one loaf of bread my husband uses. He makes sandwiches on a plate then puts it in the dishwasher. Yesterday when my celiac kids weren't home, my youngest and I ate "real" pasta. I was SO careful. All pans went in the dishwasher, I didn't spill any, I cleaned the sink I drained it in. Today my girl has her dermatitis herpetiformis rash back and had a huge hour long meltdown then fell asleep. Just like before diagnosis. Is it that hard to avoid cross contamination? Will one crumb off the plate or me cooking pasta when she's not home get her?  Again, we do not eat out, she's not in school yet, and she doesn't eat anything I don't give her.

Hi, @thejayland10, Do you still consume dairy?  Dairy can cause increased tTg IgA levels in some people with celiac disease who react to casein, the protein in dairy, just like to gluten.   You might try cutting out the processed gluten free foods.  Try a whole foods, no carbohydrate Paleo diet instead, like the AIP diet (the Autoimmune Protocol Diet by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne, a Celiac herself). Processed gluten free foods can be full of excess carbohydrates which can alter your microbiome leading to Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).  SIBO is found in some people who are not responding to a gluten free diet.  SIBO can elevate tTg IgA levels.  The AIP diet cuts out sources of carbohydrates like rice, potatoes (nightshades), quinoa, peas, lentils, legumes, which starves out the SIBO bacteria.  Better bacteria can then proliferate.   I followed the AIP diet to get rid of my SIBO.  It's a strict diet, but my digestive tract had time to rest and heal.  I started feeling better within a few days.  Feeling improvement so soon made sticking to the AIP diet much easier. First, welcome to the forum, @boy-wonder! Second, a little clarification in terminology is in order. Granted, inconsistency is rampant when it comes to the terminology associated with gluten disorders, but it has more or less become settled in this fashion: "Gluten intolerance" is a general term that car refer to either celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). "Gluten Sensitivity" is the shortened version of NCGS. Third, Celiac disease is not an allergy to gluten. It is an autoimmune disorder characterized by gluten ingestion causing the immunes system to attack the lining of the small bowel, causing damage to it over time due to the constant inflammation that wears down the "villi" (mucosal finger-like projections that make up the lining). Over a significant period of time as gluten continues to be consumed, this generally results in impaired nutrient absorption. There are specific blood antibody tests available to check for celiac disease but the testing will not be valid while on a reduced gluten diet or a gluten free diet. Those already having having begun a gluten free diet must go back to consuming generous amounts of gluten for a period of weeks if they wish to pursue testing for celiac disease. Fourth, NCGS shares many of the same symptoms of celiac disease but does not damage the lining of the small bowel as does celiac disease. There is no test for it. A diagnosis for NCGS depends on first ruling out celiac disease. It is 10x more common than celiac disease. Some experts feel it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Eliminating gluten from your life is the antidote for both. Fifth, you state that you are convince you don't have celiac disease by are just "gluten intolerant" (aka, gluten sensitive). How do you know that? It seems to me you are making a dangerous assumption here. I suggest you consider getting formally tested for celiac disease.
