Christmas

Whether you like it or not, Christmas is around the corner. We call it the silly season here in New Zealand, as we all go out and do the shopping etc, and get ready for the summer holidays, it is all rush rush, and then many of us sit down on a hot Christmas Day and eat hot Christmas meals like our ancestors did in England! Then we cannot move for eating too much. I always say, it is going to be different this year, we could have a barbeque, but I never seem to be able to get away from tradition, but this year it most certainly will be a different Christmas!

My favourite Carol is all of them. I just love to sing along at Christmas Carol singing. My favourite is probably Silent Night.

My favourite Christmas song is Snoopy's Christmas by the Royal Guardsmen, it has been out forever, probably from the 60's, so it has been part of my Christmas' for ever!

So my family from now on will be bombarded nicely with Christmas Carols and songs.

I love Christmas and how it brings families together.

Cathy

My favorite traditional song is Silent Night as well.

My favorite song to sing along to is either Bryan Adams...something about christmas time

or Elton John Step into Christmas.

My fiance is very Christmasy, so he goes all out. I have some spirit but not an over abundance. We are getting a tree this weekend. It is cold enough to be Christmas too, last year it was still in the 50's.

It's hard to pick a favorite Christmas song...I love "Angels We Have Heard on High". Really, all of the traditional music. "Little Drummer Boy" is another. Anybody remember "We Need a Little Christmas"?

I also really love to watch "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer"--I've enjoyed that since I was a kid. :D

My gosh- That's so funny! I always forget that in the countries below the Equator it's HOT at Christmas!

Let's see....my favorite Christmas songs;

Traditional: The Holly and the Ivy

Song: "Do You Hear What I Hear?"

Silly: "Grandpa's Gonna Sue the Boots off of Santa" (it's a silly retort to "Grandma got Run over by a Reindeer" that my niece listens to)

also, the entire soundtrack to the Nutcracker. I listen to it every day from December 1st on..... :D

I LOVE the holidays!

"O Holy Night" is my favorite Christmas song. It's such a beautiful song. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. My daughter's favorite is "Jingle Bell Rock".

As far as Christmas movies, my favorite is a smokey mountain Christmas with Dolly Pardon, so cute.

I thought I saw Santa Claus is coming to Town is on ABC next Tuesday. I love the Charlie Brown Christmas with the small twig tree.

I love almost all Christmas music, one of my favorites is Garth Brooks singing, "Daddy looks alot like Santa, or Santa looks alot like him".

My all time favorite Christmas movie is "The Night They Saved Christmas" with Jaclyn Smith. It's been out for several years and I just love to watch it. I think Art Carney is Santa in it. It explains how Santa can do so much, makes Santa so possible, which of course, I do believe in Santa!!! It's a beautiful movie.

I totally agree. The officer who gave me my drivers test a bizillion years ago sang O Holy Night at a Christmas eve service once and I can still hear his awesome voice.

Silent Night is my favourite too. My father was born in Salzburg, Austria and my aunt lives about 8 miles from the village of Oberndorf where Silent Night was first played. When I was little, we visited my relatives one Christmas and we went to a Christmas eve program at that tiny chapel.

Hi, Cathy,

My favorite carol is The First Noel.

My favorite Christmas song is "Celebrate the Child" by Michael Card. Chorus goes:

Celebrate the Child who is the Light

Now the darkness is over

No more wandering in the night

Celebrate the Child who is the Light. ;)

I just wanted to say that I am probably the worst neighbor ever. I love all kinds of Christmas music and I listen to it ALL YEAR LONG.....

I love Christmas music, too, and don't ever get sick of listening to it.

We used to have a radio station here that began playing Christmas music on November 1st. It was 24-7, and ended December 25th at midnight. I loved it--earlier this year, they changed formats, so no holiday music

Fairy tale of New York ( The pogues/Kirsty McColl )

The Christmas Song (Nat King Cole )

Favourite movie:

Silver Bells is my all-time favorite - although there many very close runners-up. I listen to Christmas music beginning on Thanksgiving and don't stop until New Year's Day. We have a local radio station that starts playing Christmas music the Friday after Thanksgiving 24/7 through Christmas. We have another station that plays it all day every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I love Brad Paisley and bought his new Christmas album. There is a song on there that he wrote when he was a little boy. At the age of 13 he performed this song at Jamboree USA at the Capitol Music Hall in Wheeling, WV. The Jamboree used to be broadcast live every Saturday night on WWVA, but I don't know if they still do this. Anyway, on the album the song begins with the recording of his performance at age 13, and then switches to Brad singing it today. It gives me goosebumps every time - it is a traditional Christmas song about the the birth of Jesus and it so sweet.

Sorry for such a long answer to a simple question!

KnittyKitty, quite agree, more tests should be standard, mandatory even,  but they simply are not in the UK.  Younger people seem to be tested more older people. Limited funds perhaps, its not right and would be vehemently denied by the-powers-that-be, but there you are. More and more I've found that as I get older I need to do more of the detective work myself. Thankfully, I  am able to do that but feel very sorry for those who can't.  Anyway, I have already gained so many helpful suggestions on this forum and its just so nice to know that I'm not the only one with this wretched condition.  We live to fight another day🤗 Sue

Oh wow, I also have vitiligo on my hands and just in the last few days (when I have been brave enough to actually look at my skin now it's a bit better) on my feet a bit. A derm years ago noticed it and said 'stress', I thought probably topical steroid use but what you have written, fits.

@suek54, Testing for nutritional deficiencies is considered part of proper follow up care for those with Celiac Disease and Dermatitis Herpetiformis.  The malabsorption of nutrients is common in both.  The problem is doctors don't know much about nutrition. Doctors aren't required to take many hours of instruction in nutrition.  They are taught outdated information which doesn't apply to clinical practice.  They attend medical schools funded by pharmaceutical companies and taught to prescribe drugs to treat symptoms, not discover the source of the illness.  There are many diseases that would benefit from proper nutrition.  Arthritis, MS, vitiligo, infertility,  and Diabetes are just a few. Do be sure to visit Dr. Lonsdale and Dr. Marrs' site where I learned so much about thiamine... https://hormonesmatter.com/genetic-thiamine-deficiency-ravaged-my-family/ https://hormonesmatter.com/familial-beriberi-discovering-lifelong-genetic-thiamine-deficiency/ https://hormonesmatter.com/thiamine-deficiency-causes-problems/

Hi KnittyKitty, Like Belle I have read all your info with great interest and made notes to do a bit of research. It really is a minefield isn't it? Im already on that autoimmune bandwagon you mention - vitiligo, premature ovarian failure (at 39), hypothyroidism, Addison's and now dermatitis herpetiformis. I'm stopping there,  any more would just be greedy don't you think!😂 One of my two brothers had rheumatoid arthritis, his daughter has MS, my other brother had pernicious anaemia, all autoimmune. The force seems to be strong in our family. Interestingly,  my grandmother had frequent bouts of sickness and diarrhoea all her life, poor love. No-one ever got to the bottom of it. I wonder if she too had coeliacs? dermatitis herpetiformis is horrid but the dapsone 100mg has now cleared my skin. Im still getting some itching and prickling, but nothing to see. Im hoping that will stop in time. My bloods are holding well, no side effects that I'm aware of.  You seem to have access to a lot more tests in the USA than we do here in UK. Our NHS is brilliant but only with private health insurance could we get all the tests you mention. Hey ho, perhaps I'll win the lottery then I shall have the whole raft of tests.  Thank you so much for all the info.  Sue

@BelleDeJour, The genetics are fascinating.  I'm very curious about what your genetic test would show.  My dad was a smoker, too.  Tobacco acts as an antihistamine.  Histamine levels increase in the immune response to gluten.  My mother had headaches, gastro symptoms, and thyroid problems.  She developed nodules and had to have her thyroid removed.  This is common in thirty percent of patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis.  I've got two Celiac genes, so they both must have had Celiac.    The thyroid and the pancreas use a great deal of thiamine, as do the brain and heart.  Thiamine deficiency can be localized in one organ.  Thiamine deficiency localized in the digestive system, Gastrointestinal Beriberi, has the same symptoms as Celiac Disease, abdominal pain, acid reflux, bloating, sibo, gastroparesis, diarrhea and constipation.  Thiamine deficiency localized in the pancreas reduces insulin production and results in diabetes.  In the thyroid, Hashimoto's is related to thiamine deficiency.  Headaches and migraines can be a result of thiamine deficiency.  My mother at 67 developed Glioblastoma Multiforme, brain cancer.  My dad had a Triple A (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) which is also linked to thiamine deficiency.  It was caught in time, but he later died of pneumonia after chemo for lung cancer at 81.  Thiamine deficiency is commonly found in all types of cancer.   I'm so glad you're going to look into Benfotiamine.  Do take all the rest of the B vitamins as well as Benfotiamine.  They all work together, but Thiamine also does a whole bunch of wonderful stuff by itself, so taking more than just the recommended daily allowance is beneficial.  Our metabolic need for thiamine increases when we're sick, emotionally stressed, or exercise regularly.  Thiamine in all its forms is safe and nontoxic.  There's no upper limit.  I've been taking high dose thiamine for over a decade.  Do get checked for other nutritional deficiencies like Vitamins D, A, and C, all very important in skin health, as well as magnesium (works with thiamine) and iron. I love your comment about "digesting the wealth of information" and it being gluten free!   There's no wealth like knowledge, no poverty like ignorance.  So thankful I can share the wealth!   Do keep us posted on your progress!
