When you politely disagree with someone, in return they call it an "attack".

I left politics for a reason. :D

I'm here to peeve! Celiac's disease or celiacs disease. AUUUUGHH! IT'S NOT PLURAL AND IT'S NOT POSSESSIVE!

Thank you. I feel much better.

I think this one comes from the following:

We talk about celiac disease. We also talk about things that affect celiacs (the people) So people get the two confused and call celiacs the disease instead of the people who have the disease :P

Yes!! For some, any disagreement is an argument or an attack, not a discussion.

Threads that start with the declaration "fill in the blank" is NOT gluton free, with no more justification than "it had to be because everything else I ate yesterday was safe". And the product clearly contains no gluten ingredients.

Another one. "The person on the phone wouldn't confirm it was gluten-free". So it must have gluten, right?

best regards, lm

Tied in with that is another of my pet peeves - the assumption that every single time someone feels weird, they must have gotten into gluten. It can't be a virus, another intolerance, food poisoning, or simply a bad day.

I have a bigger pet peeve though that drove me off the board once in frustration. It probably will again eventually. There is a collective refusal to accept new ideas about celiac disease and gluten intolerance, to the point of persecuting people who suggest something new or different. There are people on the board who think they know a lot more than the real experts who are publishing peer-reviewed research, but they generally don't. It gets quite tedious and frustrating, coping with the "board think."

Thank you, thank you, thank you. :)

I am cursed with a proofreader's eyes and grammar and spelling errors almost "light up". UGH!

I stop myself all the time from correcting people because I am a RETIRED English professor and no one likes a pain-in-the-arse grammar phobe with a red pen.

(Not that I haven't made a few errors myself. When I am passionately presenting my case, I get carried away...)

Actually, I have overused these, too!!!!!!!!

And "apparently" I overdo italics as well.

Isn't it fun being "human"??!! Making mistakes comes with the territory. Good thing we are blessed with senses of humor!!!!

And finally, people who start new topics about the fries at McDonalds. As if the hundred or so we already have had since 2006 haven't addressed all the questions. :(

Peter, I have often wondered...wouldn't a FAQ section with these kinds of queries stop those repetitive questions? I know when I first joined the forum, I used the search mode for threads, but I also probably asked questions you guys answered many times as well. (And thank you all for your unlimited patience :) )

People who post about a predicament and we all get concerned and sucked in. We give suggestions and worry. They never come back and tell us how it went.

Amen to this. It makes me very uncomfortable when someone feels an opinion is a judgement of some kind and lashes out at others on a thread. I thought the purpose of a forum was to discuss. I always say IMHO so as not to offend, but sometimes it is like walking on eggshells. I am not here to argue; I am here to learn and help if I can. Maybe some people are still healing and gluten is still affecting their moods? IMHO

As far as a FAQ section is concerned, I think it's a great idea. Only problem: If someone can't even be bothered to take the time to read the Board Rules, would they really read a FAQ section?

So true!

And I do wish people would learn to use that Google button at the top right hand corner of the screen. So many questions being asked have been asked before and answered in great detail. Very helpful.

But please....don't pull up a post from 2004 and expect the info to be accurate!

Or the OP to answer back with her recipe!

I have had people PM me to ask why people are so rude and don't respond back. I have to explain that the person hasn't been on in 5 years.

Or they get several pages of suggestions and nix every one of them.

Er... guilty? I've been on the board depressed, brain-fogged, and grumpy and have made posts I shouldn't have. I do always try to apologize.

I'd rather than than a thread hijack! Yet another pet peeve. Find a vaguely relevant thread, put your lab results in the middle, then get petulant when nobody answers your question because they didn't notice it and were focused on the original poster.

Many message boards automatically lock threads after there have been no replies for a certain period of time. We would benefit immensely from that. There is hardly ever a situation where an old thread is dug up that doesn't lead to confusion and hurt feelings. Even worse, many of the old threads contain out-of-date product information.

How about extremely long posts, with no paragraphs. I do tend to skip those. My old tired eyes can't handle those. B)

And I’m anaemic, however I’m also female and vegetarian. I had an iron trans a couple of years ago however it’s starting to dwindle and taking supplements doesn’t seem to work. I can’t seem to absorb it.

Hi, I attended a neurologist appt last Tuesday, which I nearly cancelled, due to ongoing numbness and tingling in toes to mid foot. One of the first things he asked was ‘are you celiac’. I’m not. He thought all reflexes were ok but at the last minute decided on nerve conduction tests which were low normal. He was a little confused as he felt they should be better and tried a new set of probs, all the time, giving me multiple shocks which were not enjoyable lol. Anyway, he’s now ordered tests for myeloma, and all the vitaminy things that so many of you mention on here, also tests looking for autoimmune responses. I already have Hashimotos. Interestingly, to me, but maybe someone out there can relate or knows more than i do, although I was a nurse, but ED not ‘weird symptoms’  nurse. Anyway back to the interesting thing, I took duramine in 2013 to lose weight which caused a massive panic attack when I stopped taking it and half my hair fell out. I only took it for a week but it was horrible and I regret it. It triggered ongoing panic attacks which are horrendous. So I feel like I’m a bit crazy. Then in 2020 I had this sudden onset of horrible pain when trying to eat a cinnamon roll. It continued and I lost around 20 kgs. I had two gastroscopes and a colonoscopy and they were all normal. I scored a barium swallow and CT angiogram. All normal. The pain subsided a little but I was left with reflux and an awful feeling that I couldn’t get air when I ate some foods. This was not anxiety.  The anxiety was separate and I still maintain this. This was something to do with eating. It was like the air was thick but I wasn’t short of breath. I just had the sensation I was, then it triggered anxiety. Anyway, I had other weird things- couldn’t bend knees to shave legs in shower lol. Knees felt stiff and swollen but they weren’t. Knee WOUld swell up randomly but mri showed minimal issues. A bit of a meniscus degeneration but insignificant. Then the buzzing sensations in my head, the feeling like someone was stabbing me with something sharp. So now, I pre empted his tests, although I don’t think I’m celiac because it should have come up on gastroscopy, I’ve gone off gluten. Since Tuesday last week so 9 days. Since then I don’t appear to be as constipated, I realised I got through today without a nap and I’m not tired, maybe it’s just today and not related but I get very tired normally and sleep straight after work often, I can bend my knees and shave my legs lol, the buzzing vibrating has gone from my head, I had to call and ambulance as my heart decided we were off on a run, but we weren’t running and I’ve been a bit twitchy at bed time when trying to sleep, reflux is improving, I did get the weird suffocating feeling a bit when eating today but not as bad normall. Tingling and numbness still present and I felt like it moved up my legs a bit today but I’m a bit jittery. So I don’t know if it’s celiac disease or a gluten intolerance but I think, and it may be wishful thinking because my symptoms do make life a bit challenging, but maybe I’m feeling better. I don’t feel as cloudy. My thinking feels crisper. Like there’s no buzzing and I’m not fighting to break through the cloudiness now. I hope so much that this may help me feel a bit better moving forward. It would be a miracle as I really have struggled to work and parent and keep the house clean and I’m always anxious and exhausted.  If you get this far, please tell me if you you can relate to any of the above. Oh and tonsils out 5 years ago but before that antibiotics multiple times a year, sometimes intramuscular because they were so bad.  Op was meant to take 30 mins, it took 1.5 hours due to size of them.

Im still not gaining weight I’m on a gluten free diet . And still having issues with constapation started priobiocs figured it would help been over two weeks . I guess it’s going to be a long road for me .
    • Smith-Ronald
Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.
    • Bayb
Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?
