I tossed some cut up apples into my coffee cake. A much needed improvement was made.

I was thinking that, too!

I need some serious help! I can't stop eating peanut brittle! smiley-animal0025.gif

Weird frickin' morning.

Went out to check on the chickens and found the three chicks outside the nest, cold and dead. Brought them inside wrapped up in my shirt against my stomach, because, you know, they're chickens. Reptilian-esque. Put the heated barley bag underneath them and started searching the chicken forum. Others have revived chicks that have been dead for a couple days, so I figured I'd give it a shot. One person suggested putting them back under the broody. OK, works for me.

Put the three little bodies under mom (I'm not very hopeful, actually, but it's worth a shot). Figured I'd take out the two eggs that didn't hatch, because 3 days overdue is a long time. Brought the eggs inside to candle them to see if they were even ever fertile and one PEEPED at me!.

So now the broody is sitting on three dead chicks, and two "dud" eggs.

And I dunno about you, but when there are lives at stake, I'm pretty oblivious of my body -- so now my back really hurts.

Think I'll re-microwave the barley bag and stretch out in the recliner.

jerseyangel Proficient

Oh Jess, I'm sorry about the chicks and yes, when something like that is happening you kind of act on instinct and your physical feelings take a back seat to the emotional ones.

I am sending warm, positive thoughts that the wee ones will somehow pull through. Keep us posted and take care of that back;)

Ah geeze -_- Sorry about the bebehs. And rest that back!!! (I also vote chiro... know some peeps don't like 'em but mine got me walking again after a slipped disk broke me, so I'm partial ;) )

kareng Grand Master

Sorry about the chickies. Sorry about your back, too. Sounds like everyone should have just stayed in their snug beds where they belong.

I know people who have brought back frozen kittens, so it could work for chicks?

Go, li'l chicks, GO! You can do it!! Sending warm, warm thoughts to them, Jyessss.....and to yer back!

Yeah!

Well, no miracle chickie resurection, but Re-peep hatched and seems fine. I'll listen to the last egg today, and if it's not peeping, out it goes. That way Dovey can get up and follow the kid around if she decides to leave the nest.

Aw sorry about the chickies Jess :(.

So sorry about the chicks. Remember to ice after using the heated barley bag. I relied on heat (comfort) when my back went out after the hospital. Between the chiropractor and icing it I'm actually going to be able to pick Tony up at JFK with Superman. Was also given the green light on intimacy.

Love,

Poodle talks are still in discussion. It's the only pet I'm not allergic to (not counting the wonderful turtles, snakes, etc we had when Tony was growing up). Rob thinks it will be therapeutic in many ways. Our friend has been brining her poodle Tassie to visit. I'm in love. Tassie has a sister that is not a poodle and they are very close so my allergies kick up a little after being with her. It's going to be put on hold until the weather is warmer and we see what's happening for Rob job wise (another mouth to feed & vet bills to consider). He's still the top candidate for the job in Mass. but neither of us want to move. We've developed some close friendships in our development (not to mention finally having the right doctors who aren't trying to solve everything with medication). I'm 1000% better and rarely even think about reaching for a pain med or any other. As my system detoxes I'm able to see what meds I need to re-add in (for example I was taking hormone replacement and stopped and the hot flashes came back with a vengeance- it's also good for my bones). Instead of taking (no exaggeration) 20-25 pills twice a day I' down to 4 once a day as well as homeopathic remedies. I feel better than I have in years. I'm still trying to tackle sleeping but I'm going to wait until the trip to NJ to deal with it. I don't want to be wide awake in a hotel and then too tired to enjoy the party. A reminder to all of you that are sorta close to Princeton (or don't mind a ride) I'm having the joint birthday party for the boys on January 19th at 1PM at Romeo's on Schalks Crossing in Plainsboro NJ. It's between Route 1 and Route 130 right outside of Princeton and Cranbury. It's going to be a buffet so I have them setting up a gluten-free table away from the regular buffet. I'm going to put up some signs asking people to PLEASE not cross contaminate our area. They have gluten-free pizza and pastas. I would love to meet my psillies in person. Patti, I'm crossing everything that Mark will be able to bring you.

OK, laundry calls. In case I'm not online again this year (we decided to go to the NYE party and I already made my ambrosia) I wish all of you the HEALTHIEST and HAPPIEST of New Year's. I have a great feeling about 2013 (13 has always been a lucky number for me).

I know I've said it before but it's sincere and straight from the heart. I don't know what I did before I met all of you wonderful psillies (and those not into our thread). This forum has truly been a lifeline for me and I feel so blessed to have you all in my life.

All my Love,

A thankful Loey

P.S. didn't take as long as I thought to get the Celiac back under control. I see my G.I. tomorrow at 7:30 AM

Loey Rising Star

Ooh Loey-- enjoy!! ;)

Still crossing everything that you and Mark will make it to the party. I'll be the one who's overdressed. It's a casual party but I am the hostess. :D :D

Love you!

Loey

P.S. I'm disappointed that Vince is in Cranbury (next to Plainsboro) this weekend and can't make the party. If I still lived in Plainsboro I'd be in the congregation beaming at our very multi-talented fella!

Sorry, I just realized how old this thread is and only read the initial post from 2021. I'll have to catch up on the comments in this thread.

Sorry to hear you're going through such a hard time. It would be worth looking into MCAS/histamine issues and also Long Covid. Perhaps there is something occurring in addition to celiac disease. It would be worth ruling out micronutrient deficiencies such as the b vitamins (B12, folate, B1, etc), vit D, and ferritin (iron stores).

This sounds very similar to the neuropathic pain I experienced with type two diabetes.  Gloves and boots pattern of neuropathy is common with deficiencies in Cobalamine B12 (especially the pain in the big toe), Niacin B3, and Pyridoxine B6.  These are vitamins frequently found to be low in people with pre-diabetes and diabetes.  Remember that blood tests for vitamin levels is terribly inaccurate.  You can have vitamin deficiencies before there are any changes in blood levels.  You can have "normal" serum levels, but be deficient inside organs and tissues where the vitamins are actually utilized.  The blood is a transportation system, moving vitamins absorbed in the intestines to organs and tissues.  Just because there's trucks on the highway doesn't mean that the warehouses are full.  The body will drain organs and tissues of their stored vitamins and send them via the bloodstream to important organs like the brain and heart.  Meanwhile, the organs and tissues are depleted and function less well.   Eating a diet high in simple carbohydrates can spike blood sugar after meals.  Eating a diet high in carbohydrates consistently over time can cause worsening of symptoms.  Thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B3 and Pyridoxine B6, (which I noticed you are not supplementing), are needed to turn carbs, proteins and fats into energy for the body to use.  Alcohol consumption can lower blood sugar levels, and hence, alleviate the neuropathic pain.  Alcohol destroys many B vitamins, especially Pyridoxine, Thiamine and Niacin.  With alcohol consumption, blood glucose is turned into fat, stored in the liver or abdomen, then burned for fuel, thus lowering blood glucose levels.  With the cessation of alcohol and continued high carb diet, the blood glucose levels rise again over time, resulting in worsening neuropathy.   Heavy exercise can also further delete B vitamins.  Thiamine and Niacin work in balance with each other.  Sort of like a teeter-totter, thiamine is used to produce energy and Niacin is then used to reset the cycle for thiamine one used again to produce energy.  If there's no Niacin, then the energy production cycle can't reset.  Niacin is important in regulating electrolytes for nerve impulse conduction.  Electrolyte imbalance can cause neuropathic pain.   Talk to your doctors about testing for Type Two diabetes or pre-diabetes beyond an A1C test since alcohol consumption can lower A1C giving inaccurate results. Talk to your doctors about supplementing with ALL eight B vitamins, and correcting deficiencies in Pyridoxine, Niacin, and B12.  Hope this helps! Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ P. S.  Get checked for Vitamin C deficiency, aka Scurvy.  People with Diabetes and those who consume alcohol are often low in Vitamin C which can contribute to peripheral neuropathy.

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with this—chronic neuropathic or nociplastic pain can be incredibly frustrating, especially when testing shows no nerve damage. It’s important to clarify for readers that this type of central sensitization pain is not the same thing as ongoing gluten exposure, particularly when labs, biopsy, and nutritional status are normal. A stocking/glove pattern with normal nerve density points toward a pain-processing disorder rather than active celiac-related injury. Alcohol temporarily dampening symptoms likely reflects its central nervous system depressant effects, not treatment of an underlying gluten issue—and high-dose alcohol is dangerous and not a safe or sustainable strategy. Seeing a pain specialist is absolutely the right next step, and we encourage members to work closely with neurology and pain management rather than assuming hidden gluten exposure when objective testing does not support it.
    • Scott Adams
There is no credible scientific evidence that standard water filters contain gluten or pose a gluten exposure risk. Gluten is a food protein from wheat, barley, or rye—it is not used in activated carbon filtration in any meaningful way, and refrigerator or pitcher filters are not designed with food-based binders that would leach gluten into water. AI-generated search summaries are not authoritative sources, and they often speculate without documentation. Major manufacturers design filters for water purification, not food processing, and gluten contamination from a water filter would be extraordinarily unlikely. For people with celiac disease, properly functioning municipal, bottled, filtered, or distilled water is considered gluten-free.
