  1. well, i think i have had DH symptoms for about 7 years but other than that no celiac symptoms that i can pinpoint until having my third baby 6 months ago, that must have been my trigger and i went on a fast and furious decline (from 135-110 in 2 months) and i was so weak and sick i also wondered if i was going to die. seeing me become this shell of a person they didn't even know made my family search for answers and it was my mom who first suggested celiac disease. i am ever so thankful she did and i didn't have to continue getting sicker because i had been to the doctor and they didn't seem to have a clue what was wrong with me.
  2. Any Celiac(s) From Canada

Hello from Beachville ontaio! (near london)
  3. Oh, Family And Holidays

i hear you! i've only been gluten free for 3 weeks but already ran into this situation. i told my step mom that i couldnt/wouldnt eat anything with sauce/spices/breading on it and she relayed to my dad not to put ANYTHING on the roast. perfect...roast, potatoes and green beans...im safe. One bite and i knew that SOMETHING was on my meat... me :"dad, did you put anything on the meat???" dad: "well yah, but its just bbq sauce and ketchup" GAAAHZOOKES! and then i went to check the ingredients to see if i could continue to eat and he couldn't tell me which if the 10 bbq sauces from the fridge he had used.. luckily i had brought food and was only a few days into the gluten free diet so the bite didn't seem to kill me anymore that i already was... lesson learned...you just can not expect others to understand. they try, which is nice...but they will poison you by accident.
  4. My Doctor diagnosed me with Celiac based on my many symptoms and very postitive blood tests and i have been eating gluten free for about a week and 1/2. i felt SO much better after just 3 days...truely amazing...at a week i felt like a new person, not 100% but probably 80% better. Then last night my tummy started to roll...and grumble and roll and grumble...i got the nasty burps and then diarrhea all morning. Do you suppose i got glutened..or should i expect flare ups of my old symptoms for a while yet? i realize im not even close to being healed but im curious because i felt so much better and then had this set back...
  5. Thank you very much for your replies! i have read that disney is a great place for dining with allergies and that does put my mind somewhat at ease. We are not staying on disney property so the dining plan wont be an option but we are planning to hit up a grocery store and eat as much as possible in the house we rent. If anyone can help answer my questions a little more generally about restaurants, not just at disney, but all restaurants in general because we are driving...it will take us 2 days...which will be 2 days of mostly on the go eating out and possibly fast food options. thanks again for your replies, i was excited beyond belief about the trip and this has come up and kind of put a giant shadow over my happiness and your posts have helped me cheer up a bit.
  6. Hi everyone. I am newly diagnosed with celiac and trying to figure things out and get my health under control. One issue that i am having anxiety over is eating out. idealy i would just avoid restaurants totally until i could better handle the situation BUT i cant. we have a trip to disney world booked for 3 weeks from now and paid for already so i will have to go, and eat out quite a bit as a result.I think i can handle figuring out what food is safest, ive been scouring the internet for ingredients and that sort of thing, but im afraid of cross contamination. Is there anything you do to try and limit the chances that your food is contaminated? Do you speak up and let them know that you've got an "allergy"? (do you say allergy or try to explain differently?") Do you ask that they wash their hands before creating your meal and not touch anything else while touching your food? any suggestions would be very much appreciated, this has my head spinning. Thanks in advance!
  7. Hello everyone, I have been lurking around in here and have learned alot already and i thank you all for that. just a quick introduction to myself...I am Andrea, 25 years old i live in Ontario, Im mommy to three little boys ages 5,3 and 6 months. Now..on to the fun stuff. i really have two things/questions i need help with. im sick with stomach issues everyday and due to my specific symptoms (ill list them in a second) i do believe celiac is a strong possibility. i cant get in to see a specialist until the beginning of may. I feel like i cant continue to poison my body everyday between now and then when i know what i could do to make myself feel a little better. especially since middle of april we have our first family vacation planned (and paid for) and feeling like this i wont be going at all. yesterday and today i skipped anything with gluten and i do feel a little better...maybe 50% better than i normally do by the end of the day. I do want to be able to get an official diagnosis but i also want to feel well enough to go with my family on our trip...Do you think if i stop eating gluten from now until the beginning of may that would ruin my chances of a positive biopsy? or wouldnt i have cured enough by then? Here are my symptoms, i have only been expeiencing them since the birth of my last baby 6 months ago: Severe bloating strong appetite dispite feeling sick Middle back ache, sometimes severe Diarreah, was constant for 2 months and now comes everyday few days Fatigued, zero energy. Weight loss, 20 pounds in 2 months (from 135 to 115) without any intention to lose it Iron deficiency B12 deficiency headaches trouble making decisions, no memory and terrible anxiety (this ive had for years) Itchy water blister-like rash that appears on my hands 2-3 times a year (also for years) blood test showed doubled liver enzymes Do you think judging by my symptoms that celiac is a possibility? Now, my most important Question...because it involved the baby. I am nursing him and worried that he isnt getting enough or that the quailty of the milk hes getting isnt going to be very good if i am not absorbing nutrients. he seems to be gaining Ok, hes smallish but healthy by the looks of things, but hes recently started to wake more and more in the night and that makes me wonder if hes hungry because hes not getting all he needs from me? should i be worried about this? thanks in advance for any help to my questions...i hope ive made sense, I've got a wicked headache at the moment.
