  1. It is crap -- so much of this is crap. There is no way that I am putting him back on gluten. This is a kid who, three months ago was still 90% breastfeeding. We were dealing with almost total food refusal and were fearing a feeding tube. He still isn't eating full meals like we would like, but he is a thousand times better than he was before. Diagnosis...
  2. I just called the Children's Hospital to schedule an appointment with a GI doctor there that has a "clinical interest" in Celiac disease. We have already seen a GI there a few months ago, but her interests were elsewhere and when she did mention celiac several months ago she only told us that we would have to do a biopsy -- no mention of a blood test first...
  3. Thank you all so much -- How do you know this about the 0501 gene? Is there a good website you know of (or book) that I could get to read more about this kind of thing? and what is the SCD diet? Also -- when you suggest that I get tested, do you mean a blood test? enterolab? I am already gluten-free because I am still breastfeeding. But I have to...
  4. We have not had him tested for vitamin deficiency. When we landed in the hospital 2 again months ago for what was then an unknown cause, they ran many many many tests and the only thing they said was that he had low iron. I don't know what they tested for, though. A week later we had to call for the celiac results. We have been seeing a homeopath for...
  5. I just got the test results back from enterolab for my son. He is 22 months old as was Dx Celiac by a blood test about 2 months ago. I have never actually seen those scores. We were just told over the phone that he was a "27" and it was positive. I don't know which test the "27" was for. We decided to do enterolab to see about milk intolerance and about intestinal...
  6. My father-in-law has been struggling with pain and GI issues for most of his life. Diagnosed with IBS many years ago, diverticulitis, a few unexplained bouts of anemia, frequent bathroom trips, painful gas . . . the list goes on. My son was diagnosed Celiac a few months ago (no blood relation to my father-in-law) and through research about my son we have...
  7. I contacted Oral B about my son and they said that they could not guarantee that any of their products was gluten-free and they actually said that they recommend that anyone with Celiac not use their products. I use Burt's Bees or Toms of Maine. Burts is flouride free, so it is good for the really little ones.
  8. I have noticed a big difference in the smell with my son, too. We have had a few issues with hidden gluten and he has had some terrible gas and very very smelly diapers. I agree with the rotavirus comparison. It seems very much the same. I actually thought at first that he might have gotten rotavirus again -- but it only lasted for one diaper -- so not rotavirus...
  9. My son has been having stomach pains and gas yesterday and this morning and he had a really nasty BM. I think one of us must have eaten something we shouldn't have - although I can't for the life of me figure out what it might have been. But he is also running a low-grade fever. We are still pretty new to this -- does a fever sometimes go along with everything...
  10. My son has never been a good sleeper -- lots of night-nursing, crying, and discomfort. Out of necessity for me and my sanity, we ended up a co-sleeping family. It wasn't something we planned, but it was the only way for me to get any sleep that first year (he's 21 months now) and it has turned out to be a great bonding experience. We are not in a big hurry...
  11. Our homeopath told us basically the same thing -- that he is just so full and so uncomfortable, he doesn't want to eat anymore. They say that once we clear up the constipation he should start eating more. We have actually had to give him three enemas because he has gone so long without a BM and once it actually stopped his urine flow. We have been given Mirolax...
  12. Hello - My son is 21 months old and was just diagnosed. He had a few similar symptoms. He was never a good sleeper - no more than two hours at a time for the first 9 months or so. Diagnosed with acid reflux early on. Never took to solid foods. He never even took to baby food, oatmeal or cereal. We are still struggling with getting him to eat. He was a...
  13. Thanks so much. This is all a bit overwhelming right now. As far as I know, no one in our family suffers from anything like this. I don't have any allergies and eat everything. I'm a pretty healthy girl and don't even so much as get heartburn. One of the most frustrating parts right now for me is that we eat a lot of whole grains and whole wheat pasta and...
  14. My son is 21 months old and just had a blood test for celiac. Our pediatrician said that the results came back positive and we need to talk to our GI about the next step. I am wondering if a biopsy is really necessary at this point -- are the blood tests often false-positive? and could we got through enterolab rather than do the biopsy? We have been having...
