Hey Jerry, When running becomes painful, switch to swimming. You get the same gret effects, but its easy on the joints. Plus, you never get too old for it. My dad is in his 60's and is training for a 4.4 mile open water swim. It's also great for those of us who don't want to have two black eyes just from going for a run (if you know what I mean...

ARCHIVED Chap Stick
snapple replied to Calikat4's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Blistex. I don't go a day without using it. Much prefer it over chapstick. And yes, as of the last time I checked, it is gluten-free. Plus, I have never had a problem with it. Sooo....just in case it wasn't obvious...I love, love, love, my blistex. -

ARCHIVED Cheese Substitute
snapple posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am looking for a good cheese substitute for sandwiches and stuff. Has anyone tried the veggie slices or rice slices. do they really taste like cheese? I don't want to go out and buy a substitute only to get home and find that it tastes like cardboard? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Kate -
ARCHIVED Very Interesting Article In The New Scott Free Issue
snapple replied to jerseygrl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know about everyone else, but I do worry about kissing those that eat gluten. I have been known to be so strict about others lips touching mine, that my husband started comlaining a lot (he wasn't getting his daily alottment of kisses ) . I have toned it down some, but yes, it is something I really am careful with. Usually if it has been a few... -
ARCHIVED Newsweek Magazine Article About gluten-free Diet
snapple replied to teacher1578's topic in Publications & Publicity
I get Newsweek, but this "My Turn" is only online. Don't buy the magazine only for this article, it isn't there. I am happy thought to see more news outlets paying attention to the subject of gluten and celiac. -

A few more ideas: Meat and cheese roll ups Canned tuna with some mayo and red/yellow/etc pepper strips. dip the pepper strips in the tuna instead of crackers. Really yummy and low carb. Also really filling. Breakfast: you can make egg "muffins". Take some chopped mushrooms, crumbled bacon, chopped onion, chopped black olives, chopped pepers etc... -
ARCHIVED Feeling A Little Bit Sad
snapple replied to runnerjen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey, it does get better. And there will certainly be days where you're going to feel down in the dumps. But then there are going to be days when you find something gluten free that you didn't know whas (cheese balls for me) and you get really excited (I was jumping up and down in the store, totally embarassed my hubby) and happy. Anyway, FYI Wegman... -

ARCHIVED Help The Us Govt Define "gluten Free"
snapple replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Publications & Publicity
I did the survey as well. I think the more labeling the better. My eyesight is bad as it is sooo, the less I have to read the fine print ingredients, the better. As long as the food really is gluten-free and doesn't have 19.99999 (infiniti) ppm. I could completely see Co.s doing that. Oh well, Rome wasn't built in a day, labels won't be controversy free... -
ARCHIVED Let's Talk About Constipation...
snapple replied to emcmaster's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I feel your pain! I also struggle with constipation. I have found that eating a salad every day helps a lot. It gets results (sometimes small, but they're results). I also find consistant exercise helps (I am still working on the consistant part). I also take citracel every night. Sometimes I feel like I'm 90, but hey, whatever it takes to feel better... -
ARCHIVED A Little Insight From Others
snapple replied to Megz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hang in there! As you get more comfortable with food labels, it will get easier. Also, I noticed that the less "contaminated" food that came into my house, the better I felt. As time goes on, you will become more familiar with your body's reactions to specific foods and you will learn what food combinations work for you. Your body is just working itself... -
Hello, It's been a while, but I just wanted to say hello and let anyone know who was wondering that my Dec. procedure went well. I went in on the 21st for a hysteroscopy and fractured D & C. They found 2 polyps, which were removed and I am feeling fine. Everything seems to be fine, I have a follow up appt next week. I just wanted to say thanks...

Tammy, I have a 2001 focus and it has worked fine for me. It handles well, has good gas milage, and is roomier than you would think. A few things to be aware of ( don't know if any of this applies to later models): 1. The blind spot is pretty big, (feels that way to me and my husband) 2. In the summer the air conditioning runs at its best when...

ARCHIVED Frustrated With Baking Products..just Frustrated
snapple posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello all, I just need to let out some steam! I got glutened a little over a month ago at my parents, and I am still not back to normal. I have struggled with "C" for years, and finally found a way to keep it at bay with the gluten-free diet. Soo, you can imagine how frustrating it is to have to struggle again as I work my way through this. Nothing... -
ARCHIVED Kinda Fever, Worse Fever, Bad Fever!

Lisa, My experience has been (and the advice of my mother( a woman to be taken seriously)) that when you first get up from bed after being sick you will feel great. Then after a while you will feel tired and your fever will go up. I just talked to my hiusband ( an ER nurse) and he said it has to do with your sarcadian rythem. Your temp will normally... -
ARCHIVED Long Term Pre-diagnosis Symptons
snapple replied to Riayn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My symptoms were cyclical in nature as well. It always started about a week before my period was supposed to arrive, become aggonizingly painful during, and then taper off. It got to the point that I couldn't stand up straight the bloating, gas, and constipation were so bad. When these symptoms started making themselves known at other times of the month... -
ARCHIVED Need Helpf With Evaporated Milk
snapple posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hello all, I finally tried my bread machine, and managed to make a loaf of bread that was edible. I was very happy! Since eating said bread, each night I am bloated and have very bad gas, pain, embarrassment (give thanks that husband works night shift ). Anyway, I think the trouble is that the recipe calls for evaporated milk, and I am lactose intolerant... -
I have used it in the past, but stopped a few months ago, just to see if I could go on my own. I generally suffer from C and when I first went gluten-free it really helped to regulate me. Well...as regular as we get. I will still drink a glass now and then to help if I get a little backed up. Thankfully, after almost a year of gluten-free, I think my...

ARCHIVED I Want To Scream And Have A Meltdown!
snapple replied to Turtle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow! Ok, first I would recommend closing your eyes and concentrating on breathing in for a count of 5, and breathing out for a count of 5. I recommend doing this 6 times. It should help you feel more in control and less stressed. The whole rehearsal dinner issue shouldn't even be an issue, but some people can't help themselves. In your shoes, I would... -
Hello everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that my anniversary party went really well. The food was great and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for your awsome ideas. We did serve the Lil Smokies with bbq sauce (first time I have had them and they were delish!) and they were a huge hit. Everyone loved the gluten-free crackers with cheese...
