So… I'm a coeliac
Gemini replied to OrangesAndMelons's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As far as the oat issue is concerned, you can do what you feel best but when I was diagnosed, I was like you. Severe damage, blah, blah, blah.........and I did not wait 6 months to try oats. I ate oats around the 2 month mark and got the purity protocol oats that are very gluten free. I would not eat anything else. I had zero issues with oats. They went... -
Recently I have tried a few new gluten-free processed foods that I thought I would share. Yes, they are processed but if you eat a mostly whole foods diet, then it won't hurt to have some treats now and again. ? https://eatcaulipower.com/our-food I tried the veggie pizza and have to say, it was not bad at all. It was one of the best frozen pizza...

Is Endoscopy Necessary?
Gemini replied to Olivia28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Arlene....I am so happy that your family finally woke up and decided to have a better life. Once you push through the fear of the gluten-free diet, it just gets better. I wish my brother had listened to me. He just couldn't wrap his head around the fact he most likely had Celiac, along with his Type 1. He also had to follow a low protein diet, due to... -
Is Endoscopy Necessary?
Gemini replied to Olivia28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Squirmy! Looking forward to communicating with everyone again. I do see that nothing ever changes.......people STILL having trouble being taken seriously by the AMA. Well.....except for Olivia! There are more people in my family being diagnosed, which came as no surprise to me. We even recently got back in touch with some of my mother’... -
Is Endoscopy Necessary?
Gemini replied to Olivia28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey Arlene! I'm still kicking but it's been an intense year. We moved Mom into Assisted Living last summer and she resisted it all the way. Made our lives hell....until she lived there for about 4 months and decided it wasn't as bad as she thought it was going to be. They have Happy Hour! ? But she thoroughly enjoyed trying to make us feel guilty...... -
Is Endoscopy Necessary?
Gemini replied to Olivia28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have a very progressive and smart gastro to diagnose you on bloods only. Many will not do that, for various reasons. When blood work is that definitive, it is ridiculous to put people through invasive testing. I failed all the blood work on the full panel by huge numbers, had a positive gene test (it showed I have a double DQ2 gene so twice the fun... -
Is Endoscopy Necessary?
Gemini replied to Olivia28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Olivia....from someone who opted out of the biopsy, I'll give you some info that might help. Not that I don't think you should have one but from what you posted above, having a positive tTg AND a positive EMA (Endomysial Antibody) is pretty much a slam dunk for Celiac Disease. If you have this combination, it's about 99% positive for Celiac without the... -
Are Halls Gluten Free
Gemini replied to 1morething's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been using the Halls sugar free honey lemon cough drops for years and have never had any kind of issue with them. My blood work is always stellar and I am a very sensitive Celiac who does not play Russian Roulette with my food. The review just sounds like the usual disclaimer written by a company who doesn't want to get sued. I consider them safe... -
Alternative to Synthroid for Hashimotos?
Gemini replied to Charli61's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, it is a problem, isn't it? They all used to be dirt cheap and I, like yourself, pay cash for my thyroid hormone. I changed to a high deductible plan so now I get to see what these drug cartels are charging. ? NP is way more expensive than the Nature-throid. I liked the NP but switched back to Nature-throid. Nature-throid went through a "thing... -
Actually, they are, but many won't. Do you think people went out to eat all the time years ago? No, they didn't. 98% of the time, we ate at home, at the family dinner table. Eating out was a real luxury. If you are going out to eat that much or dine at other's houses and take chances with their food that they prepare, then that is being somewhat risky...

Alternative to Synthroid for Hashimotos?
Gemini replied to Charli61's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
None of the thyroid therapies are drugs...anything you take is thyroid replacement hormones, if you are hypothyroid. If Synthroid is not working well for you, I would highly recommend desiccated because they contain BOTH thyroid hormones, instead of just the T4 only. I have been using Nature-throid for a long time and it has worked very well for me... -
The diet is not difficult to manage if you learn about food and nutrition, in other words, do your homework. It's the same for diabetics. The vast majority of people I know with either condition who are always complaining do not follow their diets well and continue to try and eat the standard, crap, American diet. Then whine they have been glutened and...

Transglutaminase IgA never under 20
Gemini replied to MidBaker's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
He should be screened for all other AI diseases associated with Celiac because the range he is stuck in would be the range you see with other AI diseases. He could have one brewing that isn't bad enough to create symptoms yet. Also, the doctor should be running his DGP test, along with the tTg, because it is erroneous to use the tTg only for compliance... -
You are correct with this but many people don't believe it. My attitude is that if you worry about this, then use gluten-free shampoo. If you understand the concept of cc and are comfortable with it, then use whatever you want. The bottom line is that you rinse your hair well after shampooing it so, unless you chew on your hair for hours on end, the odds...

Environmental allergies causing total body pain?
Gemini replied to lacey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Although, I shouldn't be so quick to laugh. Dogs, if they live long enough, can develop dementia type symptoms. They can become confused and almost forget how to do simple things that they do as dogs. It's rare, though, as most do not live long enough for that to happen. The one good thing about shorter life spans...... -
Environmental allergies causing total body pain?
Gemini replied to lacey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had no idea you could give Claritin to a dog! Great idea! Some suffer as much as we do. -
Yes, indeed.......I agree with Squirmy. I have Celiac and Sjogren’s so it can happen. You also need to know that Sjogren’s in and of itself can cause GI problems. It can affect your internal organs. Mine is just problematic for my eyes and mouth but Sjogren’s can cause other symptoms. But your bathroom symptoms are highly indicative of Celiac and fat m...

Environmental allergies causing total body pain?
Gemini replied to lacey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Today it was 72 degrees here and the trees are starting to pop and the early pollen is already here from grasses. I was out today and suddenly realized that I was not miserable and my eyes were as normal as they get for me. I almost hate to say it out loud but could the Zyrtec really be working? I am also doing sublingual allergy drops and have for 2 ... -
Environmental allergies causing total body pain?
Gemini replied to lacey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, Thank God! Something finally works in my favor. But it makes you think about all these drugs they throw people on for very little reason and this is what can end up happening. Scary. -
I have to agree that this was not harsh in any way. The poster's daughter is 11 years old and kids are incredibly smart. They learn so quickly and it is very important that she learns the diet correctly and not be given the idea that taking extreme chances is OK. If a person even begins to think that risk taking is acceptable, it could become the norm...

It's nice to see that not much has changed with these dopey doctors. From a common sense perspective and information gleaned from medical journals, a positive tTg and especially a positive EMA, that is a slam dunk for Celiac. Add to that your other positives, plus a positive genetic test, at this point, you do not need an endo for diagnosis. Your doctor...

Cealic diease skipping multiple generations?
Gemini replied to CholoeS's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There is a big difference between not having Celiac for real and those who have not been diagnosed yet. My mother's family is huge and the dominoes are starting to fall. I have a niece and cousin who were diagnosed after me and there are many more symptomatic ones who have their heads up their butt in denial so will not be tested. My sister did our... -
Eating out safely is totally do-able but it highly depends on where you live. The larger the city, where there would be more awareness and having a lot of teaching hospitals and medical really helps. New England has very high awareness here and there are a few places where the owners are Celiac so those are the restaurants that I go to. I have never been...

A1 And Why I Can Not Trust Kraft
Gemini replied to hepcat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
An updated statement from Kraft...... http://www.kraftrecipes.com/healthy-living-ideas/articles/food-safety/label-reading-for-gluten-information.aspx I don't know how it can be any more clear than this. The only vinegar you cannot have is malt vinegar and that would be clearly labeled as there is barley in malt. Does barley have to be disclosed...
