  1. Has your daughter been screened for the other AI diseases that can happen so often with Celiac? There are some that will raise tTg and keep it elevated until they are rooted out and treated. I have no idea if a stomach virus can elevate tTg. I have never heard of it but that doesn't mean it can't happen. You may have to do a repeat endo just to see...
  2. OK...old posts but I thought I would update. I have been gluten-free for 13 years and had my blood work done recently. I was gob smacked to see that, for the first time in my adult life, my white cell count is in the normal range! I asked the doc if they mixed up my blood with someone else's. The scale starts with normal being 3.8 and that is what mine...
  3. I am so sorry this happened to your mother! That is horrible. This is what I am afraid of.......my mother will not get a proper diagnosis and she will only believe the guys in the white coats. If she is diagnosed, then having her go gluten free might not be too hard. My sister is gluten free, without a diagnosis because her symptoms were in your face...
  4. This line pretty much says it all! I am going to use this in future on those who need to hear it. Thank you, everyone, for all the understanding I get from no one else. Only a Celiac knows how hard it is to be taken seriously. I am waiting for my sister to call and let me know when Mom can get into the GI doctor. I told her not to let them put it...
  5. One of the more common symptoms of hypo-thyroid is facial puffiness. Either the whole face or the eyes. You may want to look into your thyroid numbers to see if they are in the optimal range. As cyclinglady stated, steroids can really do a number on you and puffiness is also a side effect of steroid use. I do not understand why anyone would receive...
  6. Well, good luck Ennis! It isn’t easy getting them to that point where they will be tested but if they want their health back, you only have one choice. It would be easy for her to eat gluten free as she would have her own instructor!
  7. Here is a situation that most of you can identify with and it's going to take a lot of patience on my part in order to not go postal on the AMA....... I was diagnosed with Celiac 13 years ago this Easter (it was the hot cross buns that, ultimately, did me in) and when I was diagnosed, I immediately thought of all my family members who have GI problems...
  8. Not a fan of Cyrex Labs and I will be very interested to see the specifics of this "test" myself. Seems like a tall order to predict what it claims it does. I mean, if the test is that good and does what it says, then are the rest of the medical world using this? Cyrex makes claims that sound pretty absurd, at times. She had to go there, didn't she...
  9. I will also add that people who have skin sensitivities either have an additional wheat allergy or with DH, skin is almost always very sensitive overall. The gluten reaction is caused by gluten making it's way into your gut, which does begin at the mouth. So, if you cannot shower without ingesting wheat/barley containing shampoo into your mouth, or have...
  10. I think the anxiety and stress from being sick for years and not getting help from the AMA totally trumps whatever happens after going gluten free. I have been gluten-free for 13 years this Easter and I have zero anxiety and stress with regards to this lifestyle. I am very sensitive and strict with my diet but have adapted well and am really enjoying much...
  11. Hello narchar......you have 2 positives and one of them, the Endomysium IgA, will only be positive from Celiac Disease. No other disease will trigger a positive on that one. It certainly is looking like Celiac to me. Just remember that damage can be very patchy in the small intestine and if they don't take enough samples, a diagnosis can still be missed...
  12. Well...that's it then. I will have to plan another trip across the Pond so I can finally have a pasty again! The British are brilliant....
  13. It's a really good thing that you changed your GI doc because with a high positive tTg and a positive EMA, that is a slam dunk for Celiac Disease without the biopsy! That is so basic that anyone should RUN from a doc who starts talking "false positives"! With regards to having Crohn's and Celiac.....you never know how a gluten-free diet might help...
  14. Usually, and for food safety reasons, meat that is being ground by the butcher will not see any other food prep area. If they are making meatballs or anything else with a gluten containing component, it would be in a separate area from the meat grinders. I know that it might be hard to make sure this is followed in every single food store but I have never...
  15. It never fails that you make me laugh out loud, frieze! We share the same opinions about MD's. I know the poster's problem is not a laughing matter but your answer is. jane.......you most certainly can have severe gastro reactions to gluten. I did for a long time until I healed. I had a few doozies myself where I vomited so long and so hard, I thought...
  16. I have been gluten free for 13 years and have always bought freshly ground meat at Whole Foods or at a butchers. Ground burger, bison, buffalo, turkey....you get the picture. They would not put breadcrumbs through the same grinder that they use for meat. They may make sausages or mix up meatloaf, pre-made to sell, but that stuff doesn't have added ingredients...
  17. Exactly this! My pity party happens very infrequently but it always involves my inability to eat at a food festival and the food is cooking and smells so good! Those are the few things that make Celiac hard but it's only hard for a nano second and I move on. I have been doing this for 13 years now so for me, it feels completely normal. The gluten-free...
  18. No, the rant did not make me think you were queer but I also think that word meant something entirely different when I was growing up. I also like longer hair on men because that was the way things were when I was growing up. Not a fan of the bald/buzz cut thing they all have going on today but to each his own!
  19. Oh...there's nothing unfortunate about living in Scotland! I have been there and it's a lovely country.
  20. Gemma......if you are ever in London, please check out this place. It is a 100% gluten free bakery and the food is out of this world! I can't get bread like this in the States and it certainly is worth a road trip for anyone living in the Uk, within reasonable distance from London. It will easily satisfy all of your bakery cravings and I bet the bread...
  21. Ennis...you would be rinsing your hair thoroughly so this perceived threat is not really as you described. It also does not help us to take you seriously when you ask those of us with shorter hair to STFU and insinuate that your rant makes you look like a girl, a trans or a queer. That kind of talk would get you a dope slap from me if I could reach you...
  22. I am one of those people who tested high positive on every test on the panel and I had a complete panel done. But I had a lifetime of symptoms and wasn't diagnosed until I was 46 so that's a lot of damage. This is why I did not need the biopsy for a diagnosis. It really doesn't matter because, like you stated, with 2 positives on the IgA, there is a high...
