  1. Thankyou for your replies. I have rung and made an appointment with his doctor as I agree that I won't let him go on like this til February. I am insisting that his biopsy be scheduled earlier. I will ask about the testing for vitamin deficiencies. I have decided that as soon as he has had his biopsy I will start him on Gluten-free regardless... as...
  2. I feel so frustrated! I think my 10 year old may have celiac. I took him to the doctor and asked for him to be tested...which she did. Although the antibodies came back normal, the gene test came back all positive, and his bloodwork has some areas not in normal range. He was referred to a large hospital for a biopsy. His appointment to discuss and...
  3. How common is it to suffer from mouth ulcers and eczma with celiac? It is only slight eczma (not dh) on his ankles but is very itchy. Plus he has what I think is 'cradle cap' and has had for a LONG time. Any advice is gratefully recieved. I know that I frustrate some of the site members by my need to have my 10yr old son 'diagnosed' with celiac...
  4. Thankyou for your reply. I have so many questions and obviously want to do what's best for my son. I appreciate people taking the time to reply and educate me some more. I live in Australia. I don't even know about the 'insurance' thing...perhaps our health system is different? Everyone qualifies for medicare and it covers all costs for hospital stays...
  5. Tom, I am sorry if it seems as though I am putting my son through pain to win a 'power struggle' but I can assure you this is not the case. I am not a doctor and therefore do not wish to presume that I know it is celiac. The fact that his antibodies came back negative puts this in doubt. I don't wish to change his dietary habits because I wish to get...
  6. Thankyou! Much appreciated! Peta
  7. I wrote a post just after 9am this morning and it is now 12.46pm yet my post has not appeared...is there a time delay? If I go into the history on my computer the post is there but it did not appear on the forum. I have no idea why not?? Thanks, Peta
  8. Hi, I am so sorry to pester people with silly questions (my last post was not answered so I feel like I am being a nuisance) My 10 year old son is booked in to a consult in a large hospital before his biopsy. The appointment is in Feb 2007, and then they will make another appointment for the procedure (could be another month or so after that). I have...
  9. Was curious to know more about Celiac since my son was told their was a strong possibility he had it. I "Googled" and found this site. It's wonderful...and SOOOOO informative!!! Peta
  10. My 10 year old son is awaiting a bowel biopsy. His celiac test for antibodies came back negative so I'm not expecting his bowel biopsy to show anything...even though I still think he is celiac. He came back positive for both DQ8 genes and both DQ2 genes so he is still a candidate for celiac which is why the dr has ordered a biopsy. My question is whether...
  11. Hi. When my son has his biopsy how many samples should they do? He has double DQ2 and DQ8 genes, symptoms (tummy pains, sore joints, ecsthma etc), underweight and a slightly low blood count, but came back negative on the celiac antibodies (all of them). I am now doubtful that the biopsy will show celiac as, even if it is celiac, his bowel may not be damaged...
  12. This topic was also helpful to me. My son has negative test for celiac, but is positive on both DQ2/DQ8 gene tests. He shows symptoms and has a below average range for White Cell Count and Lymph. Thankfully the doctor has ordered a bowel biopsy and the doctor at the large hospital is a Celiac Specialist (for 30 years) so I am hoping that we can get results...
  13. Tiffany, Thankyou for your reply. It made sense to me (and you explain it simpler than the doctor). I meant to mention that my son also has a slightly low 'white cell count' and slightly low 'lymph'.... so if he does not show Celiac after his biopsy then it leaves me to wonder why these two parts of his full blood test are below par? I don't wish...
  14. Normal < 20, Low 20-30, Mod 31-50, strong - greater than 50 My son was <20 units. I am confused as this part of the test says celiac is 'unlikely' but the other test with the DQ's says its 'consistent with celiac' The doctor said "It looks like he has celiac" but when I read the test it doesn't seem that sure at all? The doctor is VERY new...
  15. Can anyone tell me what these means? Is it likely my son is Celiac? He is booked in for a bowel biopsy but I'm curious how high his chance of having celiac? Gliadin IgG 20 Units Gliadin IgA 20 Units Tissue Transglutaminase IgG 20 Units Tissue Transglutaminase IgA 20 Units Endomysial IgA Negative HLA DQ Alleles...
  16. Thanks for your replies. Nikki... My son does have some symptoms which is why I went to the doctor and asked for him to be tested for Celiac (the doctors here aren't very informed about Celiac so would never have suggested the test). He is very thin and often a little pale, although eats well. He complains of pains in the stomach and sore joints...and has...
  17. Hi I am new to this forum...and still not 100% sure I need to be here. My son's diagnosis is not yet confirmed. My son is 10 years old and has recently been tested for Coeliac Disease. When the results came back his blood levels were just under normal range (not of great concern to Doc on its own), but the test for Celiac came back BOTH positive. I am...
