  1. When Justin's "under attack" as I call it, meaning, has been exposed to gluten, I assume - or so his bowel movements seem to evidence - it seems that he refuses to eat - Before I knew he had celiac disease, he always seemed starving - when he was 100% breastfeed, he nursed 24X7 - but now, he goes back and forth - I realize this is partly normal for any kid...
  2. I picked up a ChiChi's brand mix for Fiesta Sweet Corn Cake - The only ingredients in question are baking soda and baking powder. I emailed them, but haven't heard back. Unless someone else knows, I'll call Tuesday and let ya'll know.
  3. sorry if it's on there, but I didn't see it on the safe or forbidden list?
  4. some maltodextrine *is* bad, you have to check with the manufactorer to see if it is derived from wheat or corn - unless they have already voluntarilly adhered to the new legislation for labeling and put the source in parenthesis
  5. I looked for Envirokidz bars at Giant today, but couldn't find them - they did have the Envirokidz cereals though, I grabbed a few - school starts Tuesday, I'll send him with little baggies of cereal as a snack! krs10
  6. i'm so sorry - the better we eat, the harder it is - good luck
  7. oh my gosh, sweetie - i'm no expert - but can you get a second opinion - how old is your son now? how long was he gluten free? and, did it help him (ie did he gain weight? did he have symptoms while being gluten free?)
  8. Rachael, It says "caseinate" - is that the same thing? -Kirst
  9. Kathy, With all the skepticism that we have to face by doctors, friends and family alike, it is great to get the support we get here in the virtual world
  10. hey chrisi, our kids are practically the same age - have you and your husband been tested? -Kirst
  11. There's hope sweetie - the dark, heavy suitcases that once lived under my eyes are long gone - well, except for when I'm on the computer all night long - now that's no excuse! Good luck and keep us informed. God Bless, Kirst
  12. My two yr old, justin, has been sleeping through the night since shortly after going gluten free 6 months ago - prior to that, he hadn't slept through the night, not ONCE!
  13. Justin [my 2 yr old w/ celiac disease] always sees other kids with their snack bars and granola bars and candy bars - although he seems to be learning and has started asking before trying things, he still gets disappointed often - so far, what we've tried from the health store, never tickled his fancy, and the rice cakes and crackers are getting old - today...
  14. that test is precisely as it should be - the ttg is what was left off of our test, that is more telling, and since justin has since gone gluten-free, the tests will no longer be active - thats the first thing i looked at when you said to take a look - also, your doctor didnt bother with the ttg, which again, tells me that he/she is knowledgable, as the ttg...
  15. i've been told at support group meetings that every celiac is different - but i have yet to hear of another child being like my 2 yr old, justin, in that he not only has no trouble being under-weight...he has been no lower than the 95th percentile in height and weight, all along! His bloodwork was possitive 6 months ago and we are awaiting endoscopy and...
  16. momof2, My son just turned 2 last month, he was diagnosed with celiac disease 6 months ago - his igg was 25 (borderline) and his iga was 52 (very high) but I had no other tests done because going gluten free was an instantanious improvement - night and day. But *now* the Ped GI wants to do endoscopy and possibly biopsy and I'm wondering WHY also - if...

    ARCHIVED Disbelieving Doctor

Hey Deb, I'm new at all of this, but like you, my doctor [my son's doctor actually] just said, go read about in on the Internet. Which I have been doing. However, I also contacted a local celiac disease Support group and was visited by a chairperson who brought tons of knowledge. Basically, it is debatable if the biopsy is necessary for diagnosis -...
  18. I just found out that my 1 1/2 yr old has celiac - it was triggered by the noro virus and detected by bloodtest. he has done remarkable in a few weeks on the gluten-free diet (behavoir and health) and now i'm thinking the rest of us should get tested - as the more research i do, the more it seems that BOTH sides of the family (mine and my husband) probably...
