  1. Nikki is right, you might be getting gluten from things that you have yet to learn about if you're a new Celiac. The best advice is to not get upset, you'll know soon and if the test is positive, that's great news. You will know the enemy, and there's tons of good information and support out there. Good luck- Dan
  2. If you're a celiac, you've been one since birth, and it's well known that gluten poisons the body and drags down the emotions beginning at an ealry age. I think it's no different than getting the flu, it can make you grumpy, down, depressed, etc. Mood swings are no different than stomach cramps, just a result of eating gluten. My hard nose advice would...
  3. We're probably all different due to other sensitivities, but once I got away from gluten, no problems, an iron stomach!
  4. Well put. I see a lot of complaining when people should be greatful that the cause is known and can be dealt with, we are no longer some unknown minority. Anything that keeps one away from eating many types of junk food is a good thing. Imagine that....being a celiac is a good thing!!
  5. Hello, I'm 52 and was diagnosed 14 years ago, it was consisdered very rare in 1993. I've found that being a Celiac is only what you make it, to me, it's no big deal and as time goes by, even less so. If I can offer any support or advice from experience, please feel free to write. Dan
  6. I agree with the idea of just totaly avoiding gluten, and perhaps dairy, they seem to go hand in hand. The results should be very obvious and happen quickly. A mother's instinct outweighs any doctors "opinon". Good luck!

    Celiac On The Job

I'm 52 and was diagnosed at 38. As to work or social functions, I'll tell people if the need arises, but I get tired of having to explain the disease. I have found that there are more people out there that are allergic or have some kind of intolerance so it's no big deal anymore. I ignore the stupid disease and just avoid gluten. Sure I wonder about how life...
  8. I recently read that some celiacs fall into a more gluten "sensitive" category instead of "intolerant". It's basically the same, the symptoms are just more mild. But, a celiac is a celiac and it will do damage. I was diagnosed at age 38 in a unique way, simply taken off any gluten for 30 days and all symptoms vanished. Years of horrible leg cramps due to...

    ARCHIVED What If?

I've read that celiac disease oftens effects children more emotionally than physically. I remember intense saddnesss for no reason going back to my teen years, but no physical celiac symptoms. Deppression runs in the family, but I'll bet the celiac monster played a role. I think it's critical to have the siblings and children of a celiac tested as early as...

    ARCHIVED What If?

Having been diagnosed a celiac at age 38 and looking back at stugggling with deppression that wasn't diagnosed and treated until age 41, I wonder what role the gluten intolerance played in the deppression at an earlier age. Has any one dealt with the same situation?

    ARCHIVED What If?

I was diagnosed a celiac at age 38, and diagnosed with depression/anxiety and treated at age 41. Looking back I wonder how much of a role being a celiac played in the struggles with deppression and the effects on my personal life. Has anyone found themselves in a similar situation and wondered "what if" I wasn't a celiac?
