  1. Thank you very much for your helpful replies. I would say something more intelligent back to you but it's Friday, it's been a hard week and I am sooo tired that I can't think! It's been not quite four weeks gluten-free now so I know it's early yet for the tiredness to alleviate. I really hope it does some time. I feel zonked at the moment. ...
  2. Thank you for your reply. When you say that symptoms went worse after you went gluten-free, did they stay worse? Or have things improved again since? I just can't wait to feel better. I keep reading other people's posts and so many seem to say they felt a huge difference after a really short time. I did have a big improvement in the D symptoms for...
  3. Hi all, this isn't about pregnancy but I think this seemed like the right place to ask so I'm hoping someone can help. I've only just gone gluten-free from July 1st. It took until about day 5 to see improvement in my symptoms (D) but then I had a week and a half to two weeks where there was definate improvement the D really alleviated a great deal....
  4. Thank you for your replies everyone - and sorry for the whinge the other day. This has been a bit of a tough week! Anyway, I had the ultrasound the other day. I don't get the "official" results for another 2 weeks but the nurse doing the scan said that she could see my ovary clearly (sorry for info!) but couldn't see anything else there that shouldn...
  5. This is just the sort of thread I need to read at the moment so thanks for posting it. I'll add my contribution too. I've been gluten-free (to the best of my knowledge and efforts!) since 1st July, so just over three weeks in now. It took until day 5 or 6 for the horrible D to improve. I then had probably a week and a half to two weeks of really...
  6. Thank you for your friendly and encouraging replies everyone. I am so grateful that this board exists and that all of you are here to talk to. Hopefully when I feel better I can help others instead of always being the one seeking support at the moment. I'm actually in the UK but this board is more active than the UK one so I spend a lot of time here...
  7. Thanks for your replies everyone. It's good to have your support and be able to come here to talk about all this. I didn't have the biopsy, but I'd already had positive blood test (Endomysial Antibodies) as well as having all the symptoms so knew that I'd have to give up gluten regardless of biopsy result. This afternoon I've been a little better...
  8. I've been struggling with this too. I also have the problem that if I look in the mirror my eyes just go straight to my belly too. I can stand there and stare and turn all different angles analysing to try to tell if it's "normal"! (How sad!) Trouble is, that I have no idea what is normal now! I mean you don't get to see other women's tummies do you...
  9. Hi all. I've now been gluten-free, as far as I know, since Sunday 1st July. For the first 5 days I wasn't really seeing much in the way of improvement, however, since the Thursday of that first week I hadn't had any more diarrhea, until today. I thought I'd been doing everything right as much as possible so I'm not sure where I went wrong really...
  10. I'm not finding the diet itself too bad. It does require more thinking and planning than eating "normal" food but I think that as long as I plan meals ahead I should be ok. Spontaneous "grabbing something while out" occasions won't be able to happen now though. I think the hardest think I'm finding so far is having to be so wary of cross-contamination...
  11. Eriella, thank you so much for your very rational advice. What you say makes perfect sense. I suppose at the end of the day I have to do the absolute best that I can but preferably whilst maintaining some small shred of sanity (not much left! ) and avoiding getting divorced and becoming a hermit. This advice (below) is so simple, but so right...
  12. That sounds good. Thanks for the tip. I've just printed out details from their website for when I'm next in Brum.
  13. Hello! I live just over an hour away from Birmingham and have relatives who live there so am in the area quite often. Sadly I can't recommend any bars with gluten-free beer though. Only thing I could suggest would be to ask in a bar that has "guest ales" sometimes to see if they'd get one in to try in case it proved popular. You never know,...
  14. Thanks for all the replies. It's good to hear from you. I think the cross contamination is going to be a problem. I want to try to get new utensils, toaster, chopping board, frying pan, seive, etc but the trouble is that we have a rather tiny kitchen so space to keep things is an issue. Also I want to keep all this stuff and prepare my food on...
  15. Thank you for the tips. It's good to know that at least lactose doesn't do harm as such, just has unpleasant "side effects"! I think I will try going without dairy for a bit to see if my symptoms go. Just a simple question - can anyone tell me if rice milk can be substituted for "normal" milk in bread recipes? Thanks again!
  16. Thank you for the replies and the welcome. This is a lovely friendly place. I've suspected that I might well have to ditch the dairy for a bit, as I've read that lots of people do, which will make life hard for a while. For a start, the home-made bread that we do uses milk in the recipe. Of course that means that I've been eating more dairy than...
  17. Thank you for your quick reply and for welcoming me to the board. This is a good place. The chicken was bought fresh from the butchers and roasted at home so that should be ok. The meats were also bought and sliced at the butchers - only potential CC would be on the meat slicer I suppose. I will have to ask the butcher about that as they are helpful...
  18. Hi everyone (again!) Well, having had the positive EmA blood test (way back in March) and waiting and waiting for the biopsy, I finally decided to just go gluten free without biopsy. I had my last gluten (as far as I'm aware) on Saturday and became totally gluten-free on Sunday 1st July. I know that's hardly any time ago, but I keep reading of people...
  19. Thank you for the replies and suggestions everyone. Even more than that, thank you for your support! I posted a very similar message on the UK Coeliacs board and mostly just got replies from people telling me that I should do the biopsy and that I shouldn't "self-diagnose" (despite the positive EmA result!) and how I couldn't expect any support if I...
  20. Hi All! Having had a positive EMA blood test I've decided to go gluten-free from Sunday 1st July (giving me enough time to finish off some pasta from stock and buy some new wooden implements!). I was scheduled for a biopsy to get the "gold standard" diagnosis but it has been cancelled and to be honest it was a great relief to me as the letter from...
  21. Thank you all so much for your replies. You all argued your respective points incredibly well, which means I still feel unsure what to do! But I'm so grateful to you all for taking the time to reply and give further information on this. Basically the upshot is that I don't feel that I need this biopsy in order to confirm the diagnosis of of Coeliac...
  22. Hi All. I finally got the date for my biopsy through and it's Tuesday next week. With the info on the biopsy the hospital also sent me details of all the risks involved - everything from infection and damaged teeth to hole puncture in insides needing admission and surgery (1 in 2000) and death (1 in 25,000)!! Now, maybe these risks are considered ...
  23. Thanks so much for the replies everyone. The key is that I HAVEN'T yet had the confirmation biopsy. I obviously didn't make it properly clear in my initial post, sorry! (I think my brain is nearly as messed up as my intestines! ) What I mean is that with the positive blood test, PLUS all my symptoms I'm quite sure that I have coeliac. The medical...
  24. Going through this I seem to think of more and more questions all the time - and there is no one else I can ask but you lovely people here! My doctor seems to know nothing about coeliac! So, I've had my positive endomysial antibody test, which as far as I'm concerned, coupled with all the symptoms I've been having, makes coeliac certain for me. I...
  25. Thank you for your reply Happygirl. It's amazing to hear that our intestines renew themselves every three to four days! Our bodies really are incredible things aren't they. I just feel so sad that I've been screwing mine up for the past years. I find this site a very helpful and informative place, and with very friendly people too which is...
