  1. Isn't it funny how the grass is always greener on the other side! I am in Canada and often look at Europe as a kind of gluten-free utopia. Although we have some great products here, the level of awareness and accomodation that seem to be in place in many European countries makes me envious. My son is Celiac and I am originally from the UK so often...
  2. That makes sense as it coats the stomach. Will give it a try, although not sure he'll take to the taste! Thanks
  3. My 13 yr olf son rarely gets glutened as he is very diligent about what he eats but occasionally he is subject to accidental gluten probably by cross contamination. As a result he has stomach pain and headache for 2-4 days. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions about what may 'flush' out the effects of this quicker or do you just have to ride it...
  4. I posted on this a few weeks ago. The pizza crust is pre-formed which they keep in cold storage and the time that it is exposed to 'floury air' is minimal. I watch every step of my order - something I can't do in a regular restaurant so have more control over identifying cross contamination than anywhere else. I observed lots of handwashing, there...
  5. As far as I understand it, Ashkanazim do not eat rice (or corn or legumes) but Sefardim do. We're a schizophrenic lot! See this link: Open Original Shared Link Lisa
  6. Sorry, I meant to post this under the International section! Hope this is useful to others travelling to Canada. Check out the Pizza Pizza website for updated locations list beforehand. Open Original Shared Link Lisa
  7. Amazlingly some Pizza Pizza locations are now carrying gluten-free crust - we tried it out yesterday and had to go back today! Only certain stores have it (check their website). We talked to the franchise owners about food handling before ordering and we were comfortable that they knew what to do. We observed lots of hand washing, cleaing of utensils...
  8. I am looking for a recipe that comes as close as possible to an authentic English scone taste and texture - does anyone have a tried and true recipe that they are willing to share? Thanks to everyone that takes the time to read this post and reply. LisaB
  9. The following Q&A is on the Canadian Yoplait web site - may not be applicable in US although I can't imagine that the process would be different. Obvious exceptions would be the granola based and cookies items. Do Yoplait products contain gluten? We carefully analyze all of our ingredients (presence of wheat, rye, barley, triticale, spelt, oats...
  10. Thanks for the response - we are just visiting the area for a hockey game so it's a four hour drive each way. I haven't heard of Good Food Company so will look them up. I am not familiar with the Detroit area at all. Lisa
  11. I'm not sure that this counts as travelling but will be visiting the Detroit area soon for one day only and would like to know what is the leading supermarket as far as carrying gluten-free products and/or gluten-free labelled house brands. Also, does anyone know if Joe Louis Arena carries any gluten-free items on their concession stands? Many thanks...
  12. They are available at other locations - I bought one about 8"s across from a Low-Carb store at Yonge & Lawrence. Not cheap but quite tasty. I guess it's just the cheese part without any base. My son ate it and had no reaction. It's a buy to satisfy a craving. Lisa Thornhill/Toronto
  13. I'm not sure that $600 is an 'absolute' limit; as a medical expense I think that the total allowable would be based on your income possible up to a maximum for the year per person. Your husband can claim for himself and either one of you can claim for your child depending upon which would give you the most beneficial result which your tax preparer can work...
  14. Does anyone have a recipe for Honey Cake that they could share with me. It is close to Rosh Hashanah and I have alwyas made one in the past - it wouldn't be the same for us without! It's the first year of diagnosis for my son. Many thanks, Lisa
  15. Thanks everybody - time to go shopping! Lisa
