  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. Is modified food starch gluten free?
  3. Great information in this post - thanks. I have celiac disease and my 8 yo daughter was just diagnosed. My other daughter (6 yo) was just dx with ADHD (more inattentive than hyperactive) and her bloodwork was negative for celiac disease. After reading these posts, I am going gluten-free for her as well. Hopefully we'll see some improvement. I can't...
  4. My daughter is officially sick of deli meat and cheese roll ups in her lunch and she's just been diagnosed. I really need some lunch ideas. I still have not found a good bread and am willing to buy a bread machine if it makes the gluten-free bread more tolerable (I have celiac disease as well). Any suggestions? Thanks, Maureen
  5. She is eight. And actually, she and I have had a few good laughs trying out some of this gluten-free food. Our experience with packaged gluten-free gravy was hilarious and disgusting at the same time. I will definitely take your advice and start substituting our gluten favorites with gluten-free favorites and I'm sure, in time, it will get better. Fear...
  6. You're right - thank goodness I knew all about celiac disease prior to my daughter being diagnosed. I definitely had a head start and she has heard me talk about my celiac disease so it wasn't so devastating to her when she was diagnosed. Thank you for the silver lining!!!
  7. Thanks for your words of encouragement and I did get a chuckle out of your cancer statistics. The comments posted are just what I needed to hear and I will continue to seek out this support until I find myself in a better place. I know that in the long run, it will be okay. But right now, this is just overwhelming. Again, thanks so much.
  8. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in November, 2005 by accident (no symptoms at all). I tried to adhere to the gluten-free diet and decided then that I didn't need to do that as I was asymptomatic. Denial is powerful. My daughter was diagnosed approximately 3-4 weeks ago and I am now adhering to all the rules for both of us. I realize that the last...
  9. It's been about three weeks since my daughter and I have been diagnosed (actually, I was diagnosed previously but wasn't convinced it was true) and I am missing bread. I've tried a few (can't remember which brands) and have not been impressed. Does anyone know of a decent sandwich bread? Also, is it worth investing in a bread machine - does it make...
  10. thanks for the info. I am an RN and feel that based on my history and her bloodwork, there may be no reason for the biopsy. Is there another disease that would cause a postive ttg? (her level was really borderline but she has basically stopped growing at 8 years old). Also, what about the lotions and shampoos - any insight?
  11. I am confused. My daughter was diagnosed approximately three weeks ago through bloodwork (ttg and IGA gliadin were positive for celiac disease). We have started a gluten-free diet but am now finding that we should not go gluten-free until diagnosed through biopsy. She will see a pediatric GI doc in a few weeks. Should I wait to see him before we go gluten...
  12. My daughter was diagnosed approximately three weeks ago through ttg and IGA gliadin blood work which were indicative of celiac disease. I am now offically confused as my pediatrician said do the gluten-free diet and "let's see how she does". Now everything I've read says that the only way to definitively diagnose celiac disease is through biopsy and we...
  13. Bobbi, thanks so much for your support. My email is hmconnick@aol.com and would appreciate any help. I have googled alot and am so grateful that we have the internet. I can't imagine doing this 15 years ago. Things like vinegar, soy, MSG are confusing me but I'm sure I'll figure it out. I will take your advise and start with the basics. Not sure what...
  14. While I am very grateful for this forum (I have learned a lot in just a week), I am completely overwhelmed by it. I was diagnosed about a year ago and have practically done nothing about it as I have had no symptoms. I realize how stupid that was (I am an RN and certified diabetes educator). But the past is the past and now I must get serious about this...
  15. Thanks for the information. I've been reading alot on this website about lactose intolerance. I did not know that those with celiac had issues with lactose. Is this really common. You mentioned "if in a month you don't feel better" - we don't feel badly at all. No symptoms other than the mild growth delay with my daughter. I'll leave lactose in for...
