  1. Actually, after reviewing the options I realized that my mom must have been diagnosed with bullous pemphigoid as that is the proper look and symptoms. Her main complaint is the severe itching and painful nature of the sores. At first they were exactly like the raised blisters shown in both the DH and bullous pemphigoid references. Now they typically don...
  2. I was struck by how similar the DH rash is to my mother's skin problem. However, she was diagnosed with Pemphigus in 2002, another auto-immune skin problem. Is there any crossover between these two? Her 'treatment' has been a list of foods to avoid.
  3. Got my results tonight, they found nothing. The assumption is that the swelling is from GERD. No evidence of EE or of any other issues. So that's good. Neither Celiac or EE sounded like much fun. I can try and see if an extra dose of Prilosec fixes it. I would love it if my 'food issues' are all in my head!
  4. So, I had my endoscopy last week. Prep was 2 weeks of gluten after a 5 month total abstinence. I started adding gluten slowly and felt pretty rough the first week, but the second week was actually easier--and I was eating a lot more gluten the second week. A complicating factor was that due to an excess of mosquito bites I was taking allegra & benedryl...
  5. Thanks very much for the input. Sounds like two weeks are not long enough at all! I can't imagine putting up with this for months, though. I'm still not up to 3-4 slices of bread per day. I did something close to that when I did my initial gluten challenge and completely took myself out. Spent most of a day on the couch due to belly pain followed by migraine...
  6. I was gluten free from 2/1 until last Wednesday night. This chunk of time convinced me that gluten is a problem (that and 3 elimination diet challenges). Antibody blood work was negative last fall, however last Wednesday my GI guy convinced me to do the endoscopy for the 'official' diagnosis. His argument focused on appropriate ongoing health care, dealing...
  7. So, I have to travel again. Reasonable happiness is only achieved by staying dairy, soy and wheat free. Salads get a bit tedious in the end, particularly when driving across the upper midwest where it's usually iceberg and tasteless tomatoes. What else do you order? A burger with no bun? Steak? Soup? Wendy's chili seems to be OK. It just seems that I end...
  8. D'Oh! I just queried a few fried clam strip recipes and found that they usually also contain dairy. Perhaps it was a double-whammy. I left on my trip with 8 gluten free bars (Larabars). They were gone faster than I expected. For some reason I couldn't find more at the grocery store there. Clearly I'm still in training.
  9. I travelled for the first time since electing to become gluten-free after having a very positive reaction to gluten (pure wheat or just gluten flour on a rice cake) while doing allergy testing. My single interaction with GI Dr provided a negative blood test. Prior elimination testing for allergens identified strong reactions from dairy and soy so I've been...
  10. Just the facts: I have experienced odd digestive issues since early childhood. Severe belly aches followed by vomiting. By my teens this faded to just regular bad belly aches, poor bowel function, and problems with fatigue & 'crashes'. Elimination diet 2 years ago identified multiple food allergies/sensitivities/intollerances. Dairy & soy were...
