  1. Hey, That was my thread started awhile back that you are mentioning. I didn't get a huge response so I thought maybe I was nuts. Anyway, I do still have major problems with nightshades. Eggplant made my lips swell and the tomatoes, peppers, give me the big D and major heartburn. I haven't figured out if potatoes are okay. I don't eat them much, but potato...
  2. Azgirl, Thanks! I'll remember not to buy the Walmart ones. Thankfully our small town has a costco that sells the ocean spray ones in bulk.
  3. I eat craisins a lot. How did the wheat get onto the craisins?
  4. Hi, I am desperate. I have been cankersores nonstop! I have been gluten free for about 1.5 years and all was going well until a few months ago. It seems that I have a duodenal ulcer, but I also have cankersores everywhere and once they heal I get more of them. I have been checking and rechecking my diet to see if I am getting gluten. Someone mentioned...
  5. I tended to think that they were applying the CYA mentality and have continued my zantac. I have an ulcer and I have to have something. I have been desperately trying to figure out what caused the ulcer to happen, but in the meantime I need something to take to keep the acid down.
  6. My Dr. says that I am still getting small amounts of gluten in my diet so I started calling again about all of my medicines. Suddenly medicines that were once gluten free are now getting the message: They do not contain gluten ingredients, but we cannot guarantee that the raw materials used in them is gluten free! I no longer have any antacids that are...
  7. Thank you everyone for the helpful suggestions!
  8. Hi Woodnewt, I don't soak eggplant because that is the one nightshade that I actually got allergic facial swelling from so I have stayed away. Maybe I should have soaked it first:) I believe that eggplant is high in histimines and I am a very allergic reactive person so I truly believe the large dose of it may have caused my allergic reaction. It is...
  9. My sister was recently diagnosed and she hated sandwiches growing up. Everyone said to her - how can you hate sandwiches?
  10. Thank you Rice guy! This seems to make sense. At this time, I am not sure if I am reacting to potato. I know that most nightshades bug me, but I have eliminated all but potato and I do not have joint pain. I actually have an duodenal ulcer and am wondering if the potato consumption is contributing to my recurrent ulcers. I will try the taro that...
  11. Hi all, I am a celiac who experienced some relief on the gluten free diet, but I seem to have problems with nightshades. Even before I was diagnosed celiac I had some episodes of hives and becoming extremely ill after eating nightshades - red chili and egg plant seemed to be the worst. I am wondering - is it common for celiacs to be intolerant to nightshades...
  12. Gleeglan, Thanks so much for the support. I unfortunately have found that I have an ulcer and thus everything isn't doing well. I am going to take your probiotic advice. One thing with being celiac is the cost is not an issue when it comes to food/vitamins if it makes my health better. I often wonder if the probiotics are key to restoring a more healthy...
  13. Sounds like we are somewhat in the same boat. So far I have cut dairy, gluten, and am going to cut the nightshades (I was all except potato, but now I think I'll do that too.) I didn't have much of a problem doing the dairy. I thought I would because I loove cheese, but I was feeling bad enough that I don't have much of an appetite for dairy items...
  14. Thank you so much ravenwoodglass. I am afraid of that rebound effect, so I will discuss tapering off. I really resisted taking them, but after weeks of sleeping sitting up on the couch and not getting sleep and waking in the middle of the night I felt pretty desperate. Since I have been on the PPI's I can at least sleep in a bed now. I am not sure the...
  15. Hi I use ground cumin for taco seasoning. I also use cilantro liberally in my mexican food to give it flavor. cumin is not a sub for chili powder, but a good sub for taco seasoning. Chili powder makes me violently ill so I threw it out of our spice cabinet. I don't really feel like I need a substitute since I can't handle anything spicy and that seems...
