  1. Thanks for some kind and sensitive words! I can imagine that a gluten-free diet is truly a blessing if you have been sick for a long time without a clear diagnosis. I'm very glad for those of you who have found great relief. I suffered Lyme Disease a few years back and lived with horrible symptoms for months before getting a diagnosis. It was one of the darkest...
  2. My blood test was positive for celiac, but I am also IgA deficient, which makes the result difficult to interpret. The biopsy showed normal intestinal mucosa, but the doctor removed only one small fragment, so that result doesn't tell me much. I really appreciate your responses and your willingness to help, but I have to say that I struggle when celiacs...
  3. I've been served notice of possible celiac. Endoscopy was inconclusive (clueless doctor only took one tiny biopsy), but I have osteopenia. Until recently, I have had few other symptoms. I'm supposed to get further testing in a few months. For the past three weeks, I've had abdominal pain that felt like a pulled muscle. It sometimes affects my mobility...
  4. Thank you all for the quick and helpful responses. Your optimism is encouraging, but at the moment I'm having a hard time coming to terms with the lifestyle change. I am a MAJOR foodie and absolutely adore whole grains. The fact that I can make or buy substitutes for some of my comfort foods is encouraging. But I just can't imagine that a gluten-free pizza...
  5. I just had an endoscopy today to confirm Celiac. The biopsy results aren't back, of course, but the doctor told me my esophagus, stomach, and intestines were all inflamed. He's pretty positive I'm celiac. I'm almost completely asymptomatic. It would help me face the overwhelming thought of going gluten-free if I knew that I could splurge just once in...
  6. OK, I'm starting to get the hang of this. But can someone tell me what it means if my IgA is low (42, when it's supposed to be 80). Is this consistent with Celiac? Or does the fact that it's low make it all the more surprising that I got a positive on the tTG? Or is it consistent with some other disease entirely (e.g., I was on Lamisil for six months...
  7. Thanks for the helpful notes (although I was really hoping someone would say, "Nah... not celiac"). I LOVE my whole grains. I've eaten Wheaties most mornings my whole life. In fact, I'm wondering whether a heavy wheat diet could contribute to Celiac. Is it possible I've eaten so much that my body has just maxed out? I think I'll try to get into a specialist...
  8. I'm new to this forum -- just received results from my doctor today that he says could indicate Celiac. But the nurse who called could provide precious little info. Here's what she said: tissue transglutimasine (?) antibody: 41 (should be less than 20) immunoglobulin A: 42 (normal is 68-378) So, my tTG is positive (but I don't know if it's extreme...
