  1. You can't believe how hopeful this makes me feel. They would probably be willing to try the enzymes, and with my new and gratefully recieved bread recipes, I'm going to get baking and see what I can produce. Regarding the DAN docs, I don't know too much about it here in the UK. Are there similar doctors here? My sister has mentioned the Defeat Autism...
  2. I've been a couple of weeks on the gluten-free diet, with many little slips, but nothing too major. Apart from really beginning to crave the food I can't have, I have got dry and itchy dermatitis on my hands (I always get it there when I am run down) and awful, awful chronic cattarh, which means I'm constantly clearing my throat, blowing my nose, and worst...
  3. Through the ABA therapy I do with him, we have met others who have seen real success. Our supervisor, although never suggesting it might be worth looking into, replied when I asked, that EVERY other autistic child she worked with had responded well to changes in their diet. His father knows this. It seems that he (along with the supervisor) are so scared...
  4. I admit I didn't understand all the scientific language and references, but I do agree with you that it would be a good idea to limit the gluten, casein and sugars that he eats. But my brother in law is a real fighter against what he calls "bad science". I don't know how to reach him, without him labelling me a quack too, and having all the more reason to...
  5. Are bacterial infections connected? I have had reoccurring BV infections recently. I'm so fed up. D this morning, but I don't know why. So frustrated, and feel nauseous, brain-foggy and shivery too. I had jacket potatoes, baked beans, cottage cheese last night. Maybe I'm intolerant of something else too. The beans had "modified maize starch" in, could...
  6. This is a worry for me too, and probably many others. If our reaction to the gluten is delayed, hidden, or comes out in an apparently unrelated way, it's really hard to keep track of how sensitive we really are. I've only just begun to notice that I do have fairly immediate physical responses, but it's not always D. Usually it's the stomach tension, which...
  7. I am writing to ask anyone for ideas - even those who are unsure of their own entitlement to speak with authority. I have recently tested positive on an antibody test for celiac, and I wondered whether there is a connection between this and my lovely nephew's autism. I know there ARE medically confirmed connections, though he has tested negative on a test...
  8. Thanks everyone! I did wonder ... they assigned me this doctor at the surgery especially because he was supposed to be the specialist in this area in comparison to the other docs. It did sound rather ridiculous at the time, but he is one of those fatherly, handsome and charmingly comforting sorts that seem to be utterly convincing in everything they say...
  9. I have recently had a positive antibody test for celiac, and have been about a week gluten free. It wasn't too hard for me as i had suspected it myself during a particuarly bad phase about 7 years back, cut out gluten (for a year!) and all my symptoms improved so much that I was able to eat it again, in small quantities...or so I thought.... It wasn't...
