  1. Hi all-- The doctor prescribed Librax & I filled the script. Now it looks like its not available in generic & its not the cheapest drug! Any ideas about what Librax does and if its worth taking? Also, is there a substitute or combination of generic drugs that can replace it? Or should I even bother? I am following my gluten-free...
  2. Thanks ravenwoodglass. I appreciate the welcome and the understanding. I truely thing that the only thing I have been feeling for so long is SICK. I don't think I've had any true emotions for a very long time. Tonight I actually feel grief about something I should have reacted to months ago. I have a funny feeling that as I heal physically, many of the...
  3. Hi everyone! I finally got my biopsy results back today--by letter. I see the Doctor next week. The Doctor wrote this: So it is official--after eating a "normal" diet for 48 years, I have discovered that I have Celiac Disease! I feel relieved to know what has been wrong with me my whole life....! But understandably angry that my life could...
  4. Tiff, I can relate!! I think I am having the exact symptoms you are describing. I am still waiting for my official diagnosis--had my endoscopy a couple of weeks ago and will see the doctor in one more week. Meanwhile I am eating what I think is a gluten-free diet. I have cleaned out my kitchen of all gluten, wheat and anything that has ever touched gluten...
  5. Thank you for the encouragement! It wasn't too bad at all! The worst part was the time spent waiting in the room just before the procedure...I was just anxious to get it over with. And my stomach etc was a bit of a mess as it always is in the morning. It will take a week or two to get the results. The only thing that I found out was that the doctor...
  6. Hi everyone! Just an update to say I went to a "good" gastroenterologist today and was scheduled for an endoscopy asap. This doctor had actually participated in a Celiac Disease research project previously ---he told me a little about it but I don't know the details other than it was about finding some kind of medication that would block gliadin from...
  7. Thanks Roda--I feel good about this doctor and figure she has prescibed the appropriate thing for me. If I don't feel better and if my level doesn't go up, I will look into something else. I am just so glad to be getting some help!
  8. Hi again--I think I was prescribed the same thing you were. 50,000 units ergocalciferol once a week for 12 weeks, then I have another test...then I'll probably take then once a month...we'll see. Hopefully I will feel better soon! I noticed people disagreed about treatments rather heatedly on this thread and some others... All the disagreement...
  9. Thanks Tiff-- Wow you must have felt terrible with that deficiency! I'm glad you felt better eventually. I hope it doesn't drop down again though. Its good to know that there are folks who care!! Being deficient in Vitamin D really makes you feel rotten! I am seeing the "regular" doctor tomorrow and hopefully she will prescribe something...
  10. Thanks for posting more info and the links Roda. Sometimes its hard to sift through previous threads. There is so much info on this forum that when you search for something like "Vitamin D Deficiency" you get thousands of results. I'll read the links!!
  11. Very interesting about putting it ON the skin. I didn't know you could do that... I will be eating gluten for another week or so...not sure when the endoscopy is yet. Hopefully after I quit eating gluten and start to heal I will be able to take a supplement and it will be absorbed. Full on tanning isn't possible out in the break area at work......
  12. Its funny that intuitively I have always been convinced that if I could just take a week off and hang out on the beach, I would feel all better... I really do crave sunshine but I am extremely fair anyway and my pallor now is a shocking gray/green...with dark circles under my eyes...Not attractive. The doctor doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get...
  13. Thanks for the replies. I am just going to have to keep it together for another couple of weeks. I just keep telling myself that once this part is over, I will stay on the gluten-free diet and I will feel better then. I just keep imagining myself healthy and vibrant!
  14. Hello everyone. Forgive my newbie-ness but I would like to know what the relationship is between Celiac Disease and Vitamin D deficiency? My blood test came back saying my Vitamin D level was 23.2 and I was taking a B vitamin, De and Folic acid supplement at the time. The test also showed my hemoglobin to be normal and my Vitamin B12 to be very...
  15. I went ahead and called another doctor, one that is hightly recommended by the local support group... I will have to wait until mid-July. Plenty of time to eat gluten and make myself really sick... Oh crap!
  16. Thanks mushroom. I am all set to call another doctor tomorrow. I think I will feel better taken care of if I go to someone that has been recommended by someone else. I was really hoping not to have to find a doctor in Charlotte. I was hoping to find one closer to where I live but there just isn't anyone here that anyone knows. Yup I was annoyed...
  17. Hi OptimisticMom42, I was calm until the doctor began to sputter! I've never seen one do that before!! My expectations were to have the doctor listen carefully to my symptoms, to be aware of the symptoms of Celiac Disease and to figure out if I have it. I expected him to hang tough and not to get flustered when I asked questions or questioned...
  18. I went to the local Gastroenterologist today. I don't think the doctor and I hit it off. I will not mention his name in this post. I am sure he is a fine doctor for most gastro issues. The doctor made me nervous. He seemed defensive. It was odd. He was an older man and kind of jumpy. In my opinion he just seemed uncomfortable with the Celiac scenario...
  19. I am having serious problems with the idea of making myself sick in order to do a biopsy. I think I am probably not alone in having this kind of visceral reaction against the idea that I have to eat gluten for a certain amount of time in order to test positive on the biopsy. It is counter-intuitive. I know I have to do it in order to get a definitive...
  20. Does anyone get really itchy when they eat a wheat product? It happens to me if I eat gluten-- Tonight I ate something with gluten because I am going to have a biopsy soon. Within an hour I was tingly and itchy all over--and I mean ALL OVER! Even inside my ears... This is not the first time this has happened. I eliminiated gluten for a month and...
  21. Thanks for that info Fiddle-Faddle. I have Meniere's Disease too. Your list of symptoms for B12 deficiency is a partial list of MY symptoms! I also have the typical digestive issues related to celiac, depression and anxiety. No one has ever been able to tell me why I have these problems. I have truely doubted my sanity and my ability to survive the rest...
  22. I am so new to this, forgive me. Migraines are a symptom of Celiac too? I have had them forever. And yes I haven't had one since I started eating gluten-free. I am interested in how Celiac causes migraines but I am thrilled to know that the diet will keep them from coming back!
  23. Hi everyone! I saw the doc today and was given my test results. The doctor admitted this was the first time she had ever asked for this test and was clearly interpreting them on the fly.... At first she said "You have Celiac Sprue!" then later on she said she wanted to send me to a gastroenterologist for a definitive diagnosis and more resources......
  24. Thanks Kaycee & Trillumhunter, Its good to know that someone else had a similar experience. I do feel better than I did when I was eating wheat products but I really still feel horrible at this point. I don't know if I am having withdrawal or if I am still consuming gluten and don't know it. The only time I feel good is when I don't eat anything...
  25. Hi! My name is Julie and I recently elimnated gluten and dairy from my diet in order to figure out what was triggering migraines. I got one migraine with aura during the time I was avoiding gluten. I had been getting a couple of migraines a week before that. After a month I decided to see what would happen if I ate a plate of pasta... I got sick (vomiting...
