ARCHIVED Someone To Talk To
Angels~Exist replied to sequoiacyclist's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hey I am 16, diagnosed Celiac May 26, 2009 It can be hard sometimes trusting others to cook for you. Most of the time you only trust yourself to make food that won't hurt you. I have been glutened by people that only had the best of intentions. The only way to really avoid this is to bring food when you go anyplace that isn't home to eat. At first it may... -
ARCHIVED Will Body Fat Decrease When On Gluten-free Diet?!
Angels~Exist replied to Vlo1980's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
From what I've heard many people gain weight before they start losing it. I think it is all part of the healing process. I've been gluten-free for two months and have finally started walking and jogging but it is still really easy to over-do it and have to recuperate for a couple of days. -
I am very pale and I have tan/brown rashes from the top of my arm to halfway to my elbow. They are round/oval raised patches. They don't itch. My doctor suggested that they may be a type of celiac rash.

ARCHIVED I'm Enrolled In Intro To Foods...signed Up Before Dx

Thanks! I hadn't even thought about the flour in the air! I think I'll just switch classes to avoid the chance of a reaction. -

ARCHIVED Ellen Degeneres - Gluten Free!
Angels~Exist replied to JustCan's topic in Publications & Publicity
Another issue with the fad diet is that people might stop taking celiac disease seriously. They might go on the diet then go off of it a week later and say that it isn't that hard because they weren't really cutting out all the gluten. -
I had nightmares too, I just didn't know it was because of the gluten. Most of the time it just made me tired but sometimes I had nightmares. Thanks for making me feel more sane

ARCHIVED I'm Enrolled In Intro To Foods...signed Up Before Dx
Angels~Exist posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I realize that you are supposed to make a lot of gluten based foods...will it be okay as long as I don't eat it? or should I get out of the class? -
I can relate to the brain fog! One time it got so bad that I had to have someone repeat a question 4 times before I could finally answer it! Then I forgot all about it two seconds later

ARCHIVED Complete Personality Change.
Angels~Exist replied to talula2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Becci, I understand that completely! One day I got glutened very badly from spices containing maltodextrin. (of course I didn't know that at the time) And the next day I couldn't even get out of bed and was yelling at everyone who came in to check on me. (not me at all!!) Now that I have been gluten-free for 2 months I am feeling so much better and like me... -
I'm Italian too and you can still have your pasta! They make gluten-free macaroni, spaghetti, and even lasagna noodles. You can find them at health food stores or whole foods stores.

ARCHIVED Just Not Sleepy/tired!
Angels~Exist replied to roxnhead's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I used to be like that too. I've been on the gluten-free diet, B-12, and folic acid for over 2 months now and I don't even notice when it's eleven or twelve at night! I've actually had people tell me to go to bed because it was late and I didn't believe them -
Most of the time spices have maltodextrin in them.

Angels~Exist replied to Claudette's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I live in mid-west mo. (Carl Junction) I don't know anyone else around here with celiacs so there probably wouldn't be a support group that isn't hours away. -
ARCHIVED The Irony Of It All
Angels~Exist replied to My3B's's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff

Does anyone wear a medical alert bracelet or necklace for celiac disease? I've been considering it.

ARCHIVED The Ups And Downs Of Recovery
Angels~Exist replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been gluten free for 2 months and I agree that there are a ton of ups and downs. Somedays taking my B12 and folic acid (like I do everyday) help, sometimes they don't. It's really frustrating but on bad days the people on this site help, just to know they are either going through, or have already been through what I am is inspiring. -
ARCHIVED How Many People Are Actually Self-diagnosed?
Angels~Exist replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I self-diagnosed myself then my doctor agreed I figured out that my symptoms all connected to get one answer- celiac disease. I told my doctor I thought I had celiacs so she looked over my chart and agreed with me. I had been to GIs, GYNs, you name it. They all had the same symptoms on file. My blood test was a false negative, the gluten free diet worked... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
Angels~Exist replied to AngelaMH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had a false negative blood test. I haven't heard of anyone getting a false positive one, either. I didn't have an endo but they diagnosed mine by positive results on the gluten free diet and my symptoms. -
I did have pain on my right side though. (the side the cyst was on) The inside of my hip also felt kind of hollow if that makes any sense. lol

Actually that's another thing the scar tissue affected. It glued my colon to both my sides. Before and even for a while after my surgery I had to have a bunch of fiber.
