I'm wondering how we know this. What studies prove it? I've posted this question several times before and never gotten the answer. Please note that I am not disputing that celiac is a lifelong disease, just wondering about research that steered the medical community away from the belief that gluten tolerance could be regained.

Here is an article about a woman who apparently went into remission after 10 years on gluten-free diet. I haven't seen any followup to this. Given that it used to be thought that children outgrew celiac disease, I'd like to know what research was done to show that it is a lifelong disease and when was it done. 1970s? 80s? Sarah

Researchers seem to think that a celiac's fondest wish is to be able to eat gluten again. That's true for some of us, but I think a lot of us would just like to eat gluten free more easily, conveniently, cheaply. Right now the variety and availability of gluten free foods is increasing in grocery stores and restaurants. I wonder if that trend will reverse...

What will be the effect of this pill on the burgeoning gluten free food market? I am concerned that the development of a pharmaceutical therapy for celiac disease will result in the availability of fewer rather than more gluten free options.

I love how these parents are so concerned about their children's diet/health and then they take them to McDonald's.

I don't understand the sense of entitlement about eating in restaurants. It's a place of business, not a public park. If you think it's unfair to be barred from bringing your own food in, is the "No shirt, no shoes, no service" policy out of line? I also don't understand why anyone would threaten restaurant personnel with legal action or projectile vomiting...

Has anyone seen a followup to this article on celiac.com in Feb 2006 about the woman who went back to normal diet after 10 years gluten free? The abstract has results for 15-month followup, but I wonder what the longer term health results have been. Sarah
