About Me

About me.....I am a 47 year old female, married 20 years with 3 boys ages 19, 17 and 9. I used to be be a very active mom and always put my childrens needs first. I also was a hard working successful business owner!

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in September 2009. I have been really sick since Spring of 2007, but have suffered on and off since 2002 with lots of odd ailments, I can now contribute to Celiac. My biggest frustration has been the lack of knowledge about Celiac that most doctors have. I actually had to ask for a Celiac Blood Panel test and then when they did the EGD the Doctor said I definitely had Celiac and to go Gluten Free. I immediately and strictly ate Gluten Free and got relief with my stomach problems. My muscle aches and joint problems showed some improvement, but they still give me problems everyday.

The toughest part has been on my mental health and overall well being. I was a type "A" personality who was efficient, organized and could get anything done. Now I feel depressed daily, have no energy, terrible mood swings, and feel like I have let my family down. I can no longer work, my state disability has run out and I was denied Social Security disability. I have appealed it, but I know it will be a fight I may not have the energy for. I am joing this group in anticipation of getting a glimmer of hope that I will get some part of my life back. I have made an appointment at the Standford Celiac Sprue Clinic in my last effort to find a doctor who truly understands Celiac Disease.

  1. I was diagnosed in September 2009 with Celiac and have had anxiety my whole life. I definitely feel better, but I am also on medication since it took so long to get diagnosed. I had my 9 year old tested for Celiac in September and it was negative. His anxiety got really bad and my new doc tested him with more detailed test for Celiac and he is positive...
  2. I am looking for Celiacs in Manteca, CA. to get together for recipes, support, etc. Thanks!!!
  3. There is a Celiac Sprue Clinic at Stanford. I am seeing a Dr. Gray there in February. Wasn't too hard to get in to see him either, you need your postive Celiac results. Number is 650-736-5555. I think there is a doctor in Palo Alto as well, Gail Pyle, MD. I only know this because I was struggling with doctors and found this information on this web site...

    ARCHIVED Help

Thanks for all the input. I am definitely going to get some vitamins, I just need to make sure they are Gluten Free as well. It is definitely hard because I get dizzy and confused when I start looking at all the ingredients. My husband is finally starting to understand a little better too which is a big help. I just feel real fragile emotionally and physically...

    ARCHIVED Help

I need help from other Celiacs. I have been isolated in my disease surrounded by family and medical professionals who really don't understand Celiac Disease. I feel sad, helpless and feel like my life will never be the same. I am on medication for Bipolar, which hasn't helped and has been changed 5 times in 6 months. My body hurts daily. I have bad...
  6. I am definitely experiencing the sleeping issues you have. I can't sleep and when I do I wake up feeling sore and sad. They have changed my meds 5 times in the last 6 months since being diagnosed. I am seeing my Psychiatrist again this Friday and hope they can find a medicine that works. Elavil does help my sleep the best. They put me on Vitamin D...
