  1. Thanks, I am checking it out next!
  2. I appreciate your reply. In looking around the forum, I did see many posts talking about the elimination diet, so I was starting to wonder about other sensitivities. Anyone know of a good book or resource for the elimination diet?
  3. My 13 year old daughter was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 18 months ago and has been gluten free as long. She is having continued problems with stomach pain, upper, middle abdomen. Had normal follow up endoscopy/biopsy and normal test for Gall Bladder 3 weeks ago, so it seems that there is no gluten exposure or gall bladder concerns. Any similar experiences...
  4. Looking for some recommendations for my Celiac daughter, age 12 who now is deficient in Vitamin D (not a surprise in MN) as well as low in folate. What is a good supplemental source of folate and how much per day, in addition to folate rich foods?
  5. Sorry to hear about your daughters asthma. Mine actually had improvement in allergy and asthma symptoms since being gluten free. I do know about knee pain however, my daughter has experienced much of that as well as hip and ankle/foot and large muscle issues. She has had on and off problems both before and after diagnosis. It sounds like this is not an...
  6. Thank you for your response, my daughter is indeed a diagnosed Celiac and has been gluten free for over 6 months now. I am very careful with all food prep and use mostly organic, including meats from reputable farmers and use my own organic veggies etc. She has been exposed twice since diagnosis and has presented with stomach and headache symptoms. She...
  7. After recently talking with a friend who is the gluten free industry, I finally understood why the products cost so much more. For a product to be certified gluten-free it must go through many more steps and inspections such as cleaning machinery, packaging, testing etc. to insure the safety of the food. It gave me a much better understanding of the cost...
  8. My 12 year old daughter was diagnosed with Celiac in June of 2010 and has done remarkably well since diet changes and has had a HUGE growth spurt. She is very active and dances 4 times per week including high impact competitive danceline. She has been experiencing all kinds of pains and injuries ranging from knee to hip and foot. She has been to a PT to...
  9. This behavior is similar to what we have experienced over the years with our daughter who was recently diagnosed with Celiacs. She would have terrible outbursts that would start for no apparent reason and then they could last for up to an hour. She would follow me, yelling, chanting, crying etc if I tried to get away. She was inconsolable, would not respond...
  10. Thanks, She is also lactose intolerant, and we do mostly organic. Can you share the the 8 common food allergins that you mentioned, I would love to have a list to work from and see if I need to eliminate other things. So far the dairy has been the most difficult to do without. We will be glad when she can have more of that! Lynn
  11. Thanks, Iron deficiency has been ruled out. Your suggestions for supplements are appreciated and we will give them a try!
  12. This is a little off subject, but I just read in Celiac Disease for Dummies last night that your expenses for a diagnosed Celiac family member can be tax deductible. You just need to keep track of what is spent above and beyond regular food and medical expenses and then it needs to be a certain (around 7%) of annual income. My child was just diagnosed...
  13. My 12 year old daughter was diagnosed with Celiac 3 weeks ago and has been on a gluten free diet since then. She is feeling very tired much of the time during the day and also is having trouble falling asleep at night. Insomnia and fatigue have bothered her for years, though it seems magnified right now. Could the "feeling tired" be a result of her body...
