  1. Thanks! and thanks for explaining. I like to know those little details and that's why I love this board. You're terrific. Christy
  2. Thanks Carla, No, he's not allergic to soy. I knew soy sauce was a problem. Here's where I get confused. My understanding is that soy sauce is out because it was derived from wheat. Maybe not? Soy by itself is OK then and soybeans are fine too.. if he wants SILK (or soy milk)? Sometimes I feel like we've got it all down pat and other times I'm...
  3. I'm a bit confused or totally bummed. With the new labeling laws, I'm seeing soy in things I never used to.. like Turkey Hill mint chocolate chip ice cream and Lays Stax. I know soy sauce is out but is soy lechtin a problem? Is anything labeled with soy as an allergin a problem? My son is asymptomatic so any clarfication would help. Thanks. Christy
  4. I'm in New Jersey and thank you for your replies. I know how everyone feels about oats and if his numbers are marginal we'll revisit that decision. We went to a conference at Columbia and learned why oats my not be an issue but understand everyone's cross contamination concerns and certainly if he had any symptons, in a way, we'd have to be sooo careful...
  5. My son has no symptoms so he doesn't react and we'll be getting his bloodwork back in a week to see how we're doing with cross contamination issues. I was wondering because he has all his cereals but his 7 yr old sister was eating her KiX and reading the label and sure enough I don't see any ingredients that I would say no to.. what am I missing? It reads...
  6. Sorry if this is posted elsewhere but I couldn't find it. I know many don't do oats but if you do, has anyone had any problems with Kix cereal?
  7. Thanks Katie, I have seen Amy's but I will look for Sheltons. Christy
  8. I've been looking at soups lately that I can use for a quick meal for my son. I found Rienzi Chicken and Rice Soup... did a search and couldn't confirm it's Ok. Here are the ingredients.. Chicken broth, chicken meat, rice, celery, carrots, tomatoes, modified corn starch. potatoes, chicken fat, salt, msg (I know but I need some off the shelf soups to get...
  9. Wasn't thinking! Thanks for reminding me to check websites. I went and checked and the ice cream dippin dots appear gluten-free and best news for me.. they listed carbohydrates too so we can eat with confidence since my son is diabetic as well.
  10. I hope you enjoyed the game. My husband and son went to a local minor league stadium and tried finding out from the vendor on site. My husband looked for the basic wheat, rye, barley, flour ingredients but at the time he's wasn't so experienced with all the other hidden ingredients. I don't think there was anything obvious. They're going to another game...
  11. Hi Everyone, My son, Chris has joined me for our first joint post. He's nine and wanted to know if Caramel coloring is always out. We've been trying to be gluten free since May and we're still having mistakes here and there. We've avoided Caramel completely but are their some mainstream products that you know of that have caramel color but are gluten...
  12. As always, thank you for the reassurance.
  13. Hi everyone, I just checked out CeliacSociety.com reviewing some of their safe/not safe lists and they list Aunt Jemima as OK and Tostitos as not confirmed. We eat alot of tostitos and nothing on the ingredient list looks suspicious. Are we OK? Thanks for the input!
  14. Thanks for the tip about General Mills.. good to know. Chris
  15. Thanks for the quick replies. I didn't think so but I did email general mills too just to confirm so I'll get an "official response" too. No wonder she doesn't seemed phased by the whole gluten free diet. Chris
