ARCHIVED Soy
Hearts replied to Hearts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Carla, No, he's not allergic to soy. I knew soy sauce was a problem. Here's where I get confused. My understanding is that soy sauce is out because it was derived from wheat. Maybe not? Soy by itself is OK then and soybeans are fine too.. if he wants SILK (or soy milk)? Sometimes I feel like we've got it all down pat and other times I'm... -
I'm a bit confused or totally bummed. With the new labeling laws, I'm seeing soy in things I never used to.. like Turkey Hill mint chocolate chip ice cream and Lays Stax. I know soy sauce is out but is soy lechtin a problem? Is anything labeled with soy as an allergin a problem? My son is asymptomatic so any clarfication would help. Thanks. Christy

Hearts replied to Hearts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm in New Jersey and thank you for your replies. I know how everyone feels about oats and if his numbers are marginal we'll revisit that decision. We went to a conference at Columbia and learned why oats my not be an issue but understand everyone's cross contamination concerns and certainly if he had any symptons, in a way, we'd have to be sooo careful... -
ARCHIVED Kix Cereal
Hearts replied to Hearts's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My son has no symptoms so he doesn't react and we'll be getting his bloodwork back in a week to see how we're doing with cross contamination issues. I was wondering because he has all his cereals but his 7 yr old sister was eating her KiX and reading the label and sure enough I don't see any ingredients that I would say no to.. what am I missing? It reads... -
Sorry if this is posted elsewhere but I couldn't find it. I know many don't do oats but if you do, has anyone had any problems with Kix cereal?

I hope you enjoyed the game. My husband and son went to a local minor league stadium and tried finding out from the vendor on site. My husband looked for the basic wheat, rye, barley, flour ingredients but at the time he's wasn't so experienced with all the other hidden ingredients. I don't think there was anything obvious. They're going to another game... -

Hi everyone, I just checked out CeliacSociety.com reviewing some of their safe/not safe lists and they list Aunt Jemima as OK and Tostitos as not confirmed. We eat alot of tostitos and nothing on the ingredient list looks suspicious. Are we OK? Thanks for the input! -

Hi everyone, We're new to Celiac's so we're still finding our way. I know some Celiacs don't eat oats but for those of you who do, what's your opinion on Cheerios? Thanks for your help. Chris

After talking with some people in this area, I made an appt. with Dr. Rosh at Goreyb Morristown Hospital (same group as Mones - so thanks for the feedback!) . My son's endoscopy is scheduled for this Friday. I also made an appt at Columbia Presbeterian with the Dr. Levy. I will likely get a second opinion from Dr. Levy. He seemed agreeable to reviewing...

ARCHIVED Celiac's And Diabetes Together
Hearts replied to Hearts's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was very lethargic. It clicked for me over our Christmas break because he was just so tired the whole time. He didn't want to do anything! I knew something was wrong. On New Years, he slept for 12 hrs and went to the bathroom 4 times that night. Four days later we went into the pediatritians office (both crying) for the diagnosis and immediate... -
Thanks for that feedback!

Did you like Dr. Levy? I have an appt. for my son but still not clear if he takes our insurance.
-
Thank you. I hadn't found that section of this site so thanks again. I had some names but did not realize they had been recommended by celiacs.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Dr. Richard Mones at Goreyb Children's Hospital in Morristown NJ. He was referrred to us. My son has tested strong positve for celiacs (twice) and has diabetes. Looking for an experienced doctor who has treated celiac patients. Dr. Zalman Schrader and Dr. Lawrence Stein were also given to by VoteforBusho...
