Overall, though, it really isn't safe to generalize that McDonald's is gluten free! In any restaurant (fast food or otherwise), you specifically have to ask whether or not french fries are fried separately. Also, most of the hamburgers are "pre-assembled" meaning there could already be cross contamination on the hamburger. Just be careful in generalizing...
