  1. Actually, there are wheat-based products that are safe for Celiacs. It's quite common in Europe to find gluten-free-approved products with wheat starch that has had the gluten removed -- after all, gliadin is just one of *many* different proteins in a grain of wheat. There's also a great Spanish beer brewed with barley malt, but that has the gluten removed...
  2. Larabars are great! They're a little expensive in stores, but Amazon usually has a few varieties for sale. I buy the bars a box at a time. They're my standard subsistence for long hikes, frisbee tournaments, and even airplane trips. Very nutritionally dense and remarkably good for so few ingredients. I've seen a few blog posts about replicating Larabars...
  3. I'm a little late to the discussion, but will echo roda and ranger on the Ball Blue Book of Canning. It's incredibly cheap for such a useful book. They just released an anniversary edition Open Original Shared Link. I imagine it's pretty similar to the copy I have, and at $5.99 it's well worth the investment. I think Amazon sells it too. So far this season...
