ARCHIVED Coles And Woolworths Deli
coeliacinfostand replied to Susansmum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Susan's Mum, Every Woolworths / Safeway shop in Australia has a large red plastic covered folder called the "Nutritional Information Folder". One copy is located in the deli. The other in the Manager's office. It is updated regularly (I think around once a week) and comes under their QA system. It lists all the products that do not arrive in the... -
Jen Keep us posted! Alan

This is a great set of Slides I am burning some celiac disease-ROMs to give to doctors in my area, and also to my dentist. My dentist is very skeptical that celiac disease has anything to do with dental enamel defects. Alan

If your Doctor is not convinced about the incidence of celiac disease compared with other conditions, get him/her to have a look at: Open Original Shared Link Except one word in the last paragraph should be corrected!! For "Most" please read "Some" also, an American Site listing the tests is at: Open Original Shared Link And an Australian...

Until recently many medical schools taught that Coeliac was such ar rare disease that a doctor may only see a few cases in a lifetime. Why, armed with information, would they waste their time looking for it? Only people with the very worst symptoms would be diagnosed, and then, only after every other avenue had been exhausted. Now SOME doctors are...

[I]The point I am trying to make is this: Every 1 in 133 Americans has Celiac but the number of people that are actually diagnosed with Celiac is far different (not sure what and it was in the article I read about this blood bank study, closer to 1 in 400 maybe). So that's why awareness has to be raised because there are tons of people walking around with...

I have found different doctors require different methods of approach. Often I just approach the receptionist and ask if I can leave Coeliac Society pamphlets in their pamphlet racks. 90% of the time they give the OK. Other times they say they will have to check with the doctor, which is a golden opportunity for me to say "Can I ask him?". Once you see...

I have just read the last four posts in this forum. Makes me very happy to see coeliacs out there pushing things along instead of waiting for others to do it. Every seemingly small thing you do, does benefit the coeliac community as a whole. Talking to food outlets about gluten-free. Even talking to the medical professionals may seem to be a waste...

According to the latest ANZCRF newsletter. 1 half of all Fins with Coeliac Disease have been diagnosed. 1 in every 8 Australians with Coeliac Disease have been diagnosed 1 in every 20 Americans with Coeliac Disease have been diagnosed In Finland all the Petrol (Gas) stations have gluten free sections! I think USA is still in the very difficult stage...

There is also a PowerPoint presentation aimed at General Practicioners (Is that what you call them in the US?) at: Open Original Shared Link This presentation has been used to educate GPs (by professional Gastros) as an introduction to the GESA pamphlet: Open Original Shared Link I have turned it into a flip chart presentation (printed it in colour...

The wording and pictures from the other pamphlets I hand out is on the site: Open Original Shared Link Alan

The pamphlet I give out to doctors is the GESA one at: Open Original Shared Link Our coeliac society reprints these. I give them to doctors, and I give them to people with symptoms to give to their doctors. Alan

If you are embarking on a project like this, could you please make it work in metric units as well as the feet, inches, pounds and ounces etc. still being used in the USA! (and use killojoules instead of calories!) I find grams, litres, millimeters, meters etc a whole lot easier to calculate. Alan

I have posted on a different part of this message board ("Doctors" category), some of the methods I use to educate doctors. I continually visit many of the medical centres around here dopping off "Coeliac Society" pamphlets for their waiting rooms, occasionally put up posters on their notice boards. The rest of it yo can read at: Open Original Shared...

ARCHIVED Celebrities With Celiac?
coeliacinfostand replied to lauderdalehawk44's topic in Publications & Publicity
Wouldn't it be great if screening tests for coeliac disease could be done on all the politicians and their staff members in Washington! -
I have always been curious as to what a community would be like if every person that had coeliac were diagnosed. This has been my aim in The Hills District of Sydney (Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill, Kellyville, Winston Hills, Carlingford, etc). I am beginning see see the fruit of my labours. There are very few restaurants that are not aware of gluten free...

Nini Once a GP has been to o a support group meeting and seen forty or fifty people there, they will never forget it. Whenever someone comes into their surgery with oesteoporosis, anemia, bowel problems, IBS, CFS, etc The FIRST thing that comes to their mind is coeliac disease. If it does actually turn out to be celiac disease, they only have to refer...

What I do when I find a doctor who is ignorant of coeliac disease is invite them to speak at our local coeliac support meeting. I give them 3 or 4 months to prepare, and loan them a folder containing a lot of papers from Pub Med, www.coeliac.com and printouts of: Open Original Shared Link and Open Original Shared Link Our Coeliac Society reprints...

ARCHIVED Support Groups In Australia?
coeliacinfostand replied to Maggie1956's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sorry Maggie I have only just seen your post. I live in NSW and know that there are local support groups covering most of this state. I would think the situation would be the same in QLD. You would need to contact "The Coeliac Society of Queensland" to find out your closest one. PH (07) 3854 0123 Fax (07) 3854 0121 Alan -
ARCHIVED What Should Local Support Groups Be Doing?
coeliacinfostand replied to coeliacinfostand's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I think our group does this at the same time as our other activities. We have many activities both at our local support group level, and also at the State Coeliac Society level. There are many activities at state level, cooking demmos, new members meetings, kids parties, picnics, etc etc. New members get a lot of time both to hear from experts and to... -

ARCHIVED What Should Local Support Groups Be Doing?
coeliacinfostand posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My main passion with coeliac disease is to get more people diagnosed. This can be done by having large committed local support groups who will keep hassling doctors in their local areas until the doctors start actively looking for the disease. At the start this is difficult and very slow, but the snowball does gain momentum, and it eventually does... -
ARCHIVED My Support Group Meeting Experience
coeliacinfostand replied to angel-jd1's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
In Australia the Australian Food and Grocery Council have published guidelines for the manufacturing of food for people with alergies. I often make a point of ensuring bakeries, restaurants, etc who sell gluten free food have a copy of it. There is a link to it: "Manufacturing & Handling Gluten Free Food (pdf file)" on my website at: Open Original...
