ARCHIVED Do You React Differently To Different Forms Of Gluten?
Brrrandy posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It seems that I have a pretty consistant reaction to gluten overall, but it's always amazed me how much the severity can vary. Have you ever noticed that the form that gluten changes the way you react? Even if they are both essentially flour? For example, there have been times when I've ingested what I know was a very tiny amount of gluten yet reacted... -
ARCHIVED Non-Itchy Rash Celiac/gluten Related?
Brrrandy replied to confused123's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I accidentally eat gluten, I often get a bit of a rash along with my GI symptoms. It is usually my first sign that I accidentally ate something. Mine always show up as little pink dots on my chest, but sometimes elsewhere as well depending how bad it is. It can sometimes be very mildly itchy, but nothing like people normally describe. Just little... -

ARCHIVED Stomach Pain... Do I Need To Go To A Doctor?
Brrrandy replied to Brrrandy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the input... if it was appendicitis wouldn't it be more sudden then gradual over the course of a month, with no fever? -
ARCHIVED Stomach Pain... Do I Need To Go To A Doctor?
Brrrandy posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was glutened over a month ago, and ever since I have had symptoms that seem to be sticking around. Normally I feel off for a few weeks, but it's been a while now and I'm starting to get worried. I have had stomach pain that varies in its intensity in a very specific spot on the low right of my abdomen, GI upset, feeling really exhausted. It is almost always... -
ARCHIVED What's Your Routine When You've Been Glutened?
Brrrandy posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was glutened as a restaurant last week (after asking TWICE about something that was on my plate... should have listened to my instincts), and of course I've been going through all the usual things (nausea, dread of eating, stomach pains, aches, tiredness, etc). My tendency is to ignore that I feel bad and keep doing exactly what I always do, and (surprise... -
Thanks for your reply, Rosetapper. Metagenics to the rescue! My doctor actually put me on UltraMeal before I pin pointed the gluten issue. I wonder if I should try UltraClear or UltraClear Sustain? They're more specialized for GI issues, right?

ARCHIVED Meniere's Disease, Gluten, Viruses, Oh My!
Brrrandy replied to Brrrandy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Interesting. Has anyone else familiar with the idea that viruses can trigger Celiac, or why? Thanks guys! -
I'm in year one of being off gluten, and I thought I'd list out the top 5 most helpful things to me during this time. For many of us, getting off gluten is just the beginning of the journey. There can be many corresponding health problems or lingering deficiencies that tag along for a while. These are the things (besides just not eating gluten) that have...

ARCHIVED Meniere's Disease, Gluten, Viruses, Oh My!
Brrrandy posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
In high school I got some strange virus, and around the same time I got dizzy for the first time. In college I got what they called "Mono," and it was the summer after that I had my first major vertigo attack and was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease, which has calmed down (but I still get tinnitus and some fluctuating hearing loss if I drink too much... -

ARCHIVED "tasting" Gluten
Brrrandy replied to Brrrandy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I occurred to me after I posted that maybe it has something to do with saliva enzymes breaking down the food, so I looked it up. Apparently researchers at Boston University and Harvard might be one step ahead of me? They've found some enzymes in saliva that seem to break down gluten as you chew. Could what I'm experiencing be the lack of an enzyme... -
How Long Before Anxiety/panic Goes Away
Brrrandy replied to Nads's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think I've heard of some OCD symptoms being linked to bacteria in the gut. If your daughter does have a gluten sensitivity, there may be some other things that have come along on the way. It might not be a bad idea to do a more serious cleanse or try to see a doctor who believes in the relationship between stomach issues and psychological issues. "Ultra... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Religious Impulse
Brrrandy replied to cdog7's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is really interesting to me. At the peak of gluten catching up to me, I was beginning to experience some psychological symptoms, brain fog, anxiety, depression-- and part of that was some bad juju mystical thinking. All of it completely went away off gluten. Looking back on it, it seems like a bad dream. I do feel a decrease in that specific kind... -
I love this. It's almost a form of non-violent resistance. The gluten sit-in.

ARCHIVED "tasting" Gluten
Brrrandy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I noticed something really interesting lately-- if I eat something that contains gluten now, I can often tell while chewing it. It does not have a particular metallic or bitter taste to me, but (this is weird) it almost feels "dead" in my mouth. Does anyone else have this, or have other gluten "tasting" experiences? It's such a weird thing to say, but if... -
ARCHIVED Ham, Sausage And Salami; When Are They Gluten Free?
Brrrandy replied to Guinsell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just looked this up because I ate some kielbasa that I suspected had gluten. It did! I think most do, from what I can see. But I also found out (thank God!) that many of Pillars salamis and meats are gluten free. Here's their allergy information: Open Original Shared Link -
Hi there! About a year since this post has been touched... but here's an update on gluten-free Chicago, specifically downtown, that I've found so far. Jimmy Johns-- Lettuce wraps Chipotle-- bowl Hot Woks Cool Sushi-- now have gluten free soy sauce! The waitress was also gluten free and knew what I was talking about. Since they have gluten-free soy sauce...

ARCHIVED Worth Getting Diagnosed?
Brrrandy replied to Brrrandy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks so much! That's very helpful. When I think of lesions I think of open wounds, do you mean to use it in that sense or in the broader sense? The bumps I've gotten have been tiny raised bumps, and almost look like a whitehead pimple, but watery instead of white, and smaller, all over my chest and stomach and back-- but they haven't blistered. But... -
ARCHIVED Worth Getting Diagnosed?
Brrrandy posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been gluten free for about six months a for the most part I've felt great. Lately, though, I've been in the process of moving coasts and moving into a new apartment, so I've been staying with friends, my parents, and eating out. It seems i've been "glutened"-- I've broken out into small itchy bumps after eating, headaches and muscle and neck pain, tiredness... -
ARCHIVED Foods To Eat After Being Glutened?
Brrrandy replied to rnb2114's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is my first time being "glutened" as everyone says. I was living in eugene oregon since becoming gluten free 6 month ago and it was very easy to avoid there. Staying with my parents in indiana for a few weeks... Not so much. I've noticed that the only thing I've felt like stomaching at all is the sushi place near my work in chicago-- plain rainbow or... -
