  1. I can only speak to my experiences. I improved rapidly over the first month after I was diagnosed. I occasionaly have small relapses when I am "gluttened" or during times of serious stress. (some of my symptoms will reappear without a known gluten ingestion) I have a friend with celiac for whom it took almost a year for her to be completley asymptomatic,...
  2. I have chronic eczema and controlled DH. (the rash associated with Celiac) Some things that aggravate breakouts are soaps, detergents, sweat, stress and foods. I typically go to the doc if anything is really bothering me, oozing, or when I have another symptom as well as the rash. (allergy type, pain, burning, flu feeling) The tricky thing with rashes are...
  3. One thing I do know for sure is that "Gluten Free" has swept the celebrity world as a diet. Dr. Phil's wife, Robin, has made many references to her gluten-free diet, and she doesn't have celiac at all. She just uses it as a way to maintain her health. And I know a lot of other celebrities do as well. Just think, when a celbrity is interviewed about how they...
  4. Ok, since the system has been updated I am a little bit computer retarded, looks like I reposted Sue's post, sorry about that. I just wanted to let you guys know that Periphreal nueropathy is highly associated with diabetes, so keep your blood sugar levels a priority and make sure you get them checked often. I bet you already knew that but just in case.....
  5. I am 22 and have been married almost two years. (my husband is a little bit older) One of the reasons I got married young was because of my family history with pregnancies. I am so glad to hear that other women my age are worried about fertility, most people just brush me off and tell me I am to young to think of such things. I graduate from nursing school...
  6. I have decided the whole world is really gluten intolerant, your body didn't need it to start with. Everyone I know gets an upset stomach once in awhile and it makes me curious....... Anywho, the books reccomended are very helpful to those seeking research, I read them both and learned a lot. By the way, my gyno said that celiac disease was probably the...
  7. I know, my insurance wouldn't cover Enterolab either. I was lucky that my blood tests were pretty conclusive and my insurance did cover that bill, all 500 bucks of it! Geez louise, like we don't get it tough enough with needing expernsive food! Let's start a revolution
  8. This is going to seem funny, but I have had serious skin problems my whole life. I often had something very similar to what you are describing in my ears. Mine was diagnosed as very dry skin aggravated by shampoo and hair products. (you have to rinse your ears out really well) I was put on a steroid cream that really helped, no problems since then. Maybe...
  9. Bean, just so you know, I appreciated this post the first time around, and still do. Anything relavant to our bodies and disease is good to know; knowledge is power. LUAP- if you don't want suggestions, advice, etc., you don't belong on this board. That is what it is designed to do. Debating a "hot" topic is one thing, but I think we would all prefer you...
  10. I am not sure what your symptoms were beyond fibromyalgia and depression, but if you had chronic diarrhea, keep in mind that with a gastric bypass you can experience "dumping syndrome" easily as a side effect. That is when nothing is absorbed and rapidly after you eat you have diarrhea, stomach cramps, etc., which would cause fatigue, joint pains, B12 absorbtion...
  11. I'm with you, people always say, "I couldn't do that" and "How do you ever do that?" It's not really that hard, and I have to admit, being prepared has proven to be a hell of a lot easier for me than knowing where every bathroom in my city is Gets a little easier every day, and my health continues to improve. That makes all the reading worth it!!!
  12. Not sure if they are but make sure you check things that say wheat free, wheat is a common allergen, like eggs, and a lot of products are wheat free but NOT gluten free! Be careful, I learned the ahrd one on that one!

    ARCHIVED Sleep

For those of us who have diarrhea, nausea, vomiting upon getting glutened, that is likely the tired culprit. It wipes out your electrolytes which keep your body in check and functioning. Gatorade or Pedialyte can help with the fatigue (I havent had to try yet so I dont know if they are gluten-free, double check) Electrolyte replacement is important, and rest...
  14. My symptoms were : constipation as a child, lactose intolerance, soy allergies, diarrhea, weight gain, achy pains all the time, headaches, nausea, vomiting=(sometimes) constant rashes, mouth sores, anemia, brain fog and concentration problems, fatigue, acid reflux, and serious infections (nasal, sinus, strep, mono, you name it) I have had it all along and...

    ARCHIVED Miserable

I posted more but it got archived because the thread was too long. See old posts for it.
  17. I am a big time Celiac. Undiagnosed my whole life until I was 21. (Now I am 22 ) My IgA was normal the first go round and high the second time. I am a firm believer in the medical system and from my nursing school experience, in general, whenever a lab result is high or low, something is going on. Nothing happens in isolation in the body, things always happen...

    ARCHIVED Miserable

This may sound funny, but it could be related to post traumatic stress syndorme, I was like that when I first got diagnosed, and also several times throughout nursing school during stressful weeks. My doc said that post traumatic stress syndrome mimics depression but is intermittent and often hits you all at once and then disappears for a bit ( I had always...
  20. Initially, my IgG(not neccesarily specific for celia as you saw in your research but a VERY specific result of immune allergic responses, and it is rare that it be so high without a significant cause, in my experiences) was the only high (42, I think) result. I was told to take fiber as well before I pitched a fit, because of the same reasons you were told...
  21. Make sure if you are a "gainer" you have your thyroid checked regularly, not just once in awhile. Keep in mind the thyroid levels go up and down all day and it can be hard to pin an underactive one. My doctor said the "NEW CELIAC", which is the most commonly diagnosed as of current, is a weight gainer with associated thyroid deficits, and that is why people...
  22. Speaking of birth controls, does anyone know which are gluten free? I read a huge list but couldn't find mine- Yasmin, which has potassium and something else good in it. It helps combat the typical weight gain. I can't find it anywhere and thought I would ask before i track down the makers and ask them. Thanks! Good luck to you all with your gilry problems...
  23. Your experience sounds exactly like mine. My doctor's nurse called me and said the exact same thing,"one of your tests is high". I asked what I should do and she said stop eating wheat. She never even mentioned gluten, not to mention the fact that I was scheduled for more testing and eliminating wheat/gluten would have messed up those tests. In my experience...
  24. I a mixed kitchen too, my husband eats mostly gluten-free but I never said he had to, it can get a bit pricey. I buy seperate butter, mayo, etc containers after a few mishaps. I cook in my own pans and whatnot. Most of the time, I can just set town pots of pasta on and it takes no more time than cooking one. I try to make sure whatever I am cooking is similar...

    ARCHIVED Awareness

Oh, me too, for sure. In fact, I feel like as carriers of the disease it is our JOB to inform the uninformed. Most people will be surprised that they have never even heard of it, seeing as how it is NOT rare. (I don't consider 1 in every 130 people rare...) I like to let people know about it because beating ignorance is half the battle, if you educate you...
