  1. I finally got all of his lab results. Here are the levels that were flagged: Glucose- 117 H Hct- 33.8 L Platelet Morphology- Giant Platelets Polychromasia- Increased Schistocytes- few AST- 55 H Vitamin D- 25 L Fecal Reducing Substances 1+ H WBC Stool- Rare WBC seen We have an appt with our specialist this Thursday, so I plan on asking what each...
  2. So I got one more bit of news in a round-about way yesterday. My PCP finally received all the labs, and his office called to tell me that my son's platelet count is low. They said not to worry too much about it; that there are many factors to the platelet count, but it was low enough he wants to do another CBC in 4 weeks.
  3. Thanks for your responses so far. Realized I left out that they have already put him on Zantac, and he is supposed to drink Carnation breakfast as a supplement at least once a day (he hates the taste of Pediasure). After the 1st negative biopsy, I asked the specialist about a gluten free trial, and at that point he advised against it. He said we're trying...
  4. Greetings! My almost-5-year-old son has been undergoing testing for Failure to Thrive for about a year. In his initial bloodwork, he had a positive result for gliadin Igg (32), but everything else was negative. We were referred to a pediatric gastroenterologist who felt that, based on the GI symptoms and slow growth, he should perform an upper endoscopy...
  5. I do not have much new to say, but this forum is great at encouraging parents who are going through the diagnosis steps! It's been 1 week since our endoscopy, and I am just waiting for the results. There is a hotline I can call to request the lab report over the phone, but the doctor advised me to wait until my appt next Friday, so we can discuss the results...
  6. Thanks for sharing. You did not mention diarrhea, so was that not a problem for her? Except for the always hungry part, my son has the same symptoms, but since there is no chronic diarrhea or visible damage in the small intestine he is not really suspecting Celiac. Two of my other children also exhibit the same symptoms, so now I am really starting to wonder...
  7. divamomma- I see that your daughter was diagnosed at age 4, the same age as my son. What were her symptoms that prompted the testing? My son was classified "failure to thrive" at a well-child check up, so our pediatrician ordered basic bloodwork to rule out the most common causes. Only his gliadin IgG came back positive (level 43, with reference 17), but...
  8. You voiced the same question I have been wondering! Please let me know on this thread what your doctor says to that question on Friday. It stands to reason that a positive gliadin antibody test shows some sort of reaction to gluten, right? Needless to say, our doctor is not done with us yet; we meet with him to go over everything on the 21st, and he has also...
  9. My 4-yr-old son had an endoscopy this morning, and the doctor said that everything looks great. He took (I think) 8 biopsies, and now we are awaiting the results to discuss at our follow-up on October 21st. He also ordered a full IgA serum level because the only reason we had the procedure in the 1st place was due to a positive gliadin IgG test, with a negative...
  10. Thank you all for your input thus far. I do not know if his screening was deamidated gliadin or not; the lab results just say GLIADIN IgG and GLIADIN IgA, as well as TTG IGA. It looks like they did not do a full IgA level assessment, which I am now curious about as I have read symptoms of IgA deficiency. Our pediatric gastroenterologist is at Penn State Hershey...
  11. My 4 year-old son has an endoscopy scheduled for next week, but I am trying to glean as much info and opinion as I can before the procedure. His bloodwork results were such that our pediatric gastro says he "wouldn't bet on it being Celiac" because the ttg and IgA were both negative. Here are his results: TtG IgA: <3 Gliadin IgG: 43 Gliadin IgA: 8 ...
