  1. Thanks for the reply ... wish my doctor was caring. I'm searching for a new one, one that knows and deals with celiacs. She's probably a good diagnostician, but stinks in bedside manner and in explaining things. Ann
  2. Hi all, I just rec'd a call from my primary care - my platelets are still low (88, 82 last time) and she wants me to see hematologist. My spleen is fine according to a CAT scan (and everything else was fine with that). I am, once again, scared out of mind thinking it might be cancer. Can celiacs cause the low platelets? She did say (after I asked)...
  3. Hi Kaita, I found Utrition at CVS (at least it says they have it online - I'll have to check on way home). BUT - what does it taste like and how much a day would I have to take? I'm not so good with taking stuff - should have seen me with the prep for the CAT scan. Just a big baby. Can you mix the vitamins with something else if the taste bothers me...
  4. Hi all, Thanks for the advice. Where do you get the liquid vitamins? Are they really liquid, or gel caps? And how much money are we talking here? My vitamin D is a green gel cap ... will that be absorbed easier then the pills? Ann
  5. You all rock! Peanut butter cups are safe .... YAY. Way more things to eat then people think ... and I didn't need the carbs from bread anyways. thank you thank you thank you ann
  6. Hi, I'm supposed to be taking a multivitamin and calcium (also am taking prescription vit D of 50,000 3X a week). But I'm confused on what is OK and what isn't ... anyone have a brand name that I can buy? I heard Centrum, but label said it might have "maltodextrin" in it. I've been gluten-free for 2 weeks ... and was feeling so much better, but headache...
  7. Hi Donna, Thanks for the advice. Yesterday was a great day - I actually cleaned, etc, had tons of energy. But it's back to getting up at 6:00 A.M. today and I'm tired. Is this because I did too much yesterday or just because not enough sleep last night? And I'm having the most trouble with the non-food items. My vitamin C tabs has maltodextrin in...
  8. Thanks Donna. This is a 3 day weekend for me and I've been sleeping like I was in college .... I made myself get up at 9:00 A.M. yesterday, 7:30 today. I work at a school, so when summer vacation comes I'll allow myself to just sleep until I'm rested. Right now, I just want this rash to go away. The best reason to be gluten-free - no more itching...
  9. Exactly how I felt. My mom just didn't understand ... she tried, but kept asking what would happen if I had something to eat that wasn't gluten-free ... I finally told her about the increase in chances of the cancer and she is on board with the whole diet. I'm only 49 ... I want to be around a lot longer! And welcome to you, too. I do find that I...
  10. I was scared silly - or scared gluten-free! My dad died of bowel cancer, his mother of "stomach cancer" (at least 40 years ago .... catch all term back then, I'm sure). The thought of intestinal cancer, lymphoma, whatever knocked me to my knees and had me crazy. If going gluten-free will lower my chances of any of that, then that's what I'll do! I can...
  11. I guess I am lucky it was diagnosed so quickly ... GI Doc ordered a panel the first and only time I've seen him. And the CAT and a colonoscopy. Seriously - I went in for check up on April 29th and was diagnosed on May 18th. I had the lab results, but must have left them at work. I guess it may have been present for a while .... does the tiredness...
  12. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. I was feeling fine, just fine. The stress in my life had been gone since January, when I was hired as a school librarian (my chosen profession!) and the pay put an end to my money problems. I love, absolutely LOVE, my new job. I haven't been this happy in at least 3 or 4 years .... I went for a long...
  13. CAT came back good - spleen was on the large size of normal, but nothing they were worried about. As for the platelets being low, Prim Care said she'd watch it and send me to hematologist in the future .... and I need to go back for another CBC panel next week. They keep taking blood from me, of course the platelets are low! I don't have any abdominal...
  14. Thanks for the Welch's info - I'm going to have a nice big glass right now! And cocoa pebbles as soon as the lactose intolerance goes away (I just thought it was my age!) Is Coffemate OK? Read the label and thought so, but still new at this. Have subscribed to ClanThompson and I have another site I've gotten information from ... and the loooooooong list...
  15. I was diagnosed last week ... and have been pretty much living on Tostitos. Hey - they were "on the list", were safe and allowed me time to wrap my head around this whole thing. But they're growing old fast and I need real food. I, too, am a picky eater. Canned peaches and pineapple - yum. No eggs (ever! - just don't like them); meat and potatoes are...
  16. Thanks for the response. I am happy that I found this board. The liver enzymes were slowly going down to acceptable levels ... it's the blood platelets they are concerned about. And thank you for the cancer information; I'm a librarian and ferreting out information is what I do. So I have read every website on celiacs, medical included, for the past week...
  17. Hello, I am recently diagnosed with Celiac - about a week ago from blood work. I know, should have had a biopsy but it wasn't suggested. Least of my worries ... It seems my liver enzymes were abnormal (which led to all the blood work) and platelets low (82). The GI doc and primary care seem to think this is from the celiac; I had a CAT scan done yesterday...
