  1. We found out tonight that our 13-month-old has celiac disease. Our 4 yo daughter was diagnosed at 3 1/2. Obviously, our son - who only has two small teeth - is eating very different foods than she was at the time of her diagnosis. He lives on his Puffs, Gerber Graduates, graham cracker sticks, veggie crackers - you name it. I'm also feeling frustrated because...
  2. I don't work for any of the celiac disease organizations. I'm just a parent with a 4-year-old daughter who has celiac disease (and a 13-month-old son who's in the process of possibly being diagnosed). I found out about this site today, and entered a couple of celiac organizations (Celiac Awareness Organization and Celiac Sprue Research Foundation). Check...
  3. My 4 yo daughter loved her Flintstone's chewables, which of course she can't have anymore. We tried Centrum Complete, but she hated them. We were at Target the other day, and their version of the Lil Critters says right on the label that there's no gluten, so we got those and she loves them. Success!
  4. Dd is turning 4 next week. We thought maybe it was a virus because she had red dots (raised) all over her body and that's what the GI NP said it probably was. But now she's complaining of stomach aches again. Her stomach looks bigger (both my husband and I noticed this independently) and she keeps complaining about her stomach hurting, and even got teary...
  5. Is it possible to have a delayed reaction to gluten? My daughter had 2-3 pieces of a dish that had gluten in it on a Tuesday, and didn't complain of a stomach ache until Friday and Saturday. It was at its worst Saturday night. She's only been on the diet since August, and this was the first known exposure. Thanks, Lisa
  6. If you get deli meat from a store, and you know the deli meat itself is gluten-free, do you ask for the slicer to be cleaned? What has your experience been with this? What's the danger of cross contamination here and is it one we should worry about? Thanks! Lisa
  7. I know this is an old post, but I'm curious to know what you did. My daughter was also prescribed omnicef. Apparently the company can't guarantee that it's gluten-free. Unfortunately, she can't have any of the penicillin based medications like Augmentin, because she's allergic. She was on Zithromax, but her ear infection was resistant to the antibiotic. The...
  8. I just checked the list at Delphi Forums, and this is what they have for One a Day: One-A-Day (Bayer) (000.000.0000) (ve=09/13/02) Company does not add gluten-derived products to their Multiple Vitamin products as an ingredient. However they cannot guarantee their vendor-supplied ingredients are 100% gluten-free. So based on that, it's not safe...
  9. My 3 1/2 year old was diagnosed with celiac about a month ago. She loves Flintstone vitamins, but of course they're not gluten-free. I got Centrum Kids Complete but she doesn't like them. Are there any other options I can give her that she might like? Thanks! Lisa
  10. I wanted to post an update: I ordered Eating Gluten-Free With Emily for my daughter, and it came in the mail today. I had told her it was coming, so she was primed. She loves it! She's already had it read to her three times and has even memorized some of it. It's so much more age-appropriate than No More Cupcakes or Tummy Aches, the pictures are cheerful...
  11. Since my 3 1/2 year old daughter was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago, I can't tell you how many people have said they had celiac when they were younger and outgrew it. From everything I've read, this is impossible - right? I told them maybe it's because they were misdiagnosed; the tests back then can't be as good as they are now. But one relative said her...
  12. I need a primer in how long gluten-free food lasts. It's my understanding that because there are no preservatives, it tends to go bad quickly. How do you know? What are the recommendations? I got some cookies for my daughter on Tuesday, and the bag's open but the expiration date isn't until March 2006. Does that mean that it's okay until it's opened? If so...
  13. My 3 1/2 year old daughter was just diagnosed as celiac, so I'm just starting to wade through these waters. I'm thinking ahead to situations where we'll have to bring food for her, and wonder if a cooler would come in handy? How many of you use one? I'm thinking it might be helpful to have a small portable one with a compartment to keep food cold as well...
  14. Thank you so much for the replies posted so far; I'm glad there are a couple of other options to check out!
  15. My 3 1/2 year old daughter was just diagnosed as celiac. Does anyone have any children's books to recommend? We were given one by Jax Peters Lowell called No More Cupcakes and Tummy Aches. Unfortunately, it's not age appropriate. It's also depressing and the pictures are creepy. Thanks!
