  1. Hello I'm really struggling to get comprehensive testing done in the UK. My brother suffers from celiac disease confirmed by antibodies and biopsy. I suffer with IBS and some signs of malnutrition also trouble with chronic heartburn and esophagitis, my symptoms improve drastically on the gluten free diet. On the NHS everywhere I go they only do the anti...
  2. Thanks for your help! I've spoken to a local private hospital and they are offering: - TTG IGA + EMA IGA + Total IGA - AGA IGA / IGG - Genetic testing Would this be a good course of action or should I try and find more comprehensive testing? Also if TTG IGA is normal and total IGA is normal, does that mean celiac is impossible?
  3. My brother suffers from celiac disease. I have suffered from lots of celiac symptoms for a long time, mostly bowel issues. Anyway, I got down to my local doctor who did some blood tests, they found some deficiencies (B12, folate), but the TTG IgA blood test came back negative (was on gluten at the time) so they said I can't possibly be celiac. I went gluten...
  4. A symptom that went while gluten-free has returned that I wonder about. Hunger that won't go away. When I was a teenager I got rather obese because I just felt permanently hungry all the time, I would eat until my belly hurt and then keep going. never feeling satiated. Like having the munchies all the time. That went away gluten-free and has returned on this...
  5. Thanks for asking. I'm doing okay. I've started taking magnesium baths and also am making sure to eat enough potassium and am feeling good enough to soldier on. My bloods were negative but the difference between when I eat gluten and don't is night and day. I've had chronic heartburn and IBS since about the age of 12 and the only thing that has ever relieved...
  6. Hey all I'm on a gluten challenge at the moment before endoscopy. At the start of the year I had problems with heart palpitations and panic attacks in combination with worsening IBS that I had for many years and signs of malnutrition. I improved greatly after about 4 months gluten free. I am now on a gluten challenge and have been for 2 weeks. The bowel...
  7. I was diagnosed about 4 months ago and have been eating gluten free since then. I always loved coffee and caffeine but I've realised it reallly doesn't seem to agree with my digestion. Within about 20 minutes of drinking even a cup of tea I will desperately need to go, I don't mind this but even after pooping the contents of my entire digestive system I will...
  8. Well I was trying to establish how much is too much. Obviously it's better not to drink or smoke at all but not possible for me at the moment. Would it be okay to only smoke when I'm out or just stop completely? How many drinks is too many? I'm monitoring vitamin levels with my doc and taking a very good B-complex plus eating a very solid rich gluten free...
  9. Hi all I've recently been diagnosed and have been eating gluten free for about 3 months. I had been at home off university slowly getting better and a few days ago I moved back feeling a fair bit better. I wonder about lifestyle though, as a 22 year old student my lifestyle before I got ill involved a lot of smoking, drinking and partying all night. Now...
  10. ttg IgA blood test, found to be negative. Had an endoscopy due to esophagitis, surgeon that performed the endoscopy did a gastric biopsy and found what he said was "no signs of celiac" but admitted the biopsy was taken too high (in the stomach) for it to be conclusive. Said in his opinion I'm not celiac but he would send me to a gastroenterologist if I really...
  11. I'm possible celiac and am waiting to see a gastro to have further testing. I've been gluten free for about 2 months and wondering if this is a typical reaction to glutening. I ate gluten food for 1 day so a fair amount of gluten and was fine the same day, the next morning I woke up feeling really far away, lightheaded and anxious, really horrible. The next...
  12. Hello. I posted before wondering whether I have celiac. I have IBS symptoms (pale 'fluffy' stool that floats and is hard to pass), bad acid reflux and regurgitation and now palpitations and other symptoms. I had an endoscopy to diagnose esophagitis but the doctor did not take a biopsy of the small intestine, how ever he did take a biopsy of the lower part...
  13. Hi all, I've had chronic health issues and am wondering if I could be celiac. My brother is a year older than me (Im 21) and had severe anemia when he was about 8 years old, he tested positive on the celiac blood test and was sent for an endoscopy - the biopsy revealed minor damage but not enough for the consultant to say definitively yes or no celiac...
