Is Paxlovid Gluten-Free?
knitty kitty commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Gluten-Free Foods & Beverages
@Plola, You're not alone! I understand! It's a dumping, mass evacuation type diarrhea. Propylene Glycol is an ingredient, generally recognized as safe, but diarrhea is one of the side effects. Propylene Glycol causes water from body fluids to influx into the intestines and colon which results in that mass evacuation. Propylene Glycol...- 9 comments

Feels like I can’t eat anything
knitty kitty replied to SargeMaximus's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Chicken meat can trigger a Celiac-like response in some people because the type of protein in dark meat (legs, thighs) resembles a segment of the gluten protein. I'm one of those that react to chicken. You're not alone, @SargeMaximus. -
Test results inconclusive?

@416510, You may want to ask for the anti-DGP - IGg tests. It's part of the"complete Celiac panel" @trents mentioned. Here's some studies about it... Diabetic and Celiac- what do I Eat???
knitty kitty replied to Ginger38's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello! I'm Type Two and I've found the Autoimmune Protocol diet works best for me. I could not take Metformin nor other similar medications because I have a hypersensitivity to sulfa drugs. Metformin actually blocks Thiamine Vitamin B 1 from entering cells in the body. The great thing about the AIP diet is that it allows me to maintain my 4... -
Issues with Water ice
knitty kitty replied to GlutenbusterMama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@GlutenbusterMama, Let's keep in mind that the digestive tract has a limited vocabulary. Not everything is caused by gluten. Yes, there's a connection between a diet high in sugar and insufficient Thiamine Vitamin B 1. Thiamine is needed to burn sugar for energy. If there is not enough thiamine to process sugar and turn it into energy, lactic... -
Suspected stomach ulcer
knitty kitty replied to KL443's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@KL443, Sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly. I was not able to take Omeprazole because it made my stomach and digestive tract hurt worse. There is scientific research that shows that proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole and antidepressants cause continuing inflammation and damage in the digestive tract. You may try discontinuing... -
Corn reaction
knitty kitty replied to FayeBr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, Faye! What was the medication? Some medications themselves can cause worsening GI symptoms. Some medications can precipitate vitamin deficiencies which can manifest as the symptoms you've described. -

@KatrinaMindy, I've had hearing loss related to untreated Celiac Disease. I've had almost all those symptoms you listed. (No resection.) Please, please, please, get checked for nutritional deficiencies, especially Thiamine Vitamin B1, as soon as possible. Vitamin deficiencies need to be corrected as quickly as possible so the damage does not...

Malignant Cancers are a Hidden Danger for Celiacs
knitty kitty commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Cancer, Lymphoma and Celiac Disease
@ravenwoodglass, I do hope it's not come to that! My heart goes out to you! There is a mounting body of evidence that high dose Thiamine (esp. Benfotiamine) can have anticancer effects. Transverse Myelitis from Celiacs
knitty kitty replied to theParaplegicCeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the forum! I agree that current medical training leaves a lot to be desired. Doctors are trained in medical training institutions funded by pharmaceutical companies to dispense pharmaceuticals. Doctors are given about fifteen minutes of education about vitamins and nutrition in seven years of med school. How are they correcting... -
Discomfort After Gluten-free Meals
knitty kitty replied to Seethefacts's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Seethefacts, If you have not been diagnosed with Celiac Disease, know that you will have to consume regular amounts of gluten (10 grams/day) for up to eight to twelve weeks ( a gluten challenge) in order to test for antibodies to gluten in your blood. A minimum of two weeks of gluten consumption is required before an endoscopy to biopsy the small intestine... -
Are you taking a B Complex supplement? Several of the eight essential B vitamins can help reduce anxiety, Cobalamine B12, Thiamine B1, and Pyridoxine B 6. But all eight are needed for them to function properly. Magnesium and Vitamin D help, too. Anxiety and depression are early symptoms that you may have insufficiency in vitamins and minerals...

Yes, I understand. Your son should use some pain he has experienced as a reference to describe his pain from stomach cramps. I'm concerned as to why he wants to use that particular comparison. He may get laughed at or bullied. Perhaps this may help.... "How can I describe my pain to my health care provider?" https://www.nichd...

@PrismagicMushroom, Yes, Celiac Disease can be precipitated after an infection. During an infection, our bodies can run short on Vitamin B1, Thiamine. High dose Thiamine can help recovery. Vitamin D deficiency can cause symptoms of arthritis. Celiac Disease damages the small intestine where vitamins and minerals are absorbed. Supplementing...

Yes, I avoid the bakery section, too. Some highly sensitive people can have a reaction to inhaled gluten. We smell "stuff" because little molecules of that "stuff" get airborne and finds its way to our nose, triggering smell receptors. The "stuff" gets stuck in the mucus produced by the mucus membranes in the nose which drains down the back...

@Sarah8527, That's like comparing apples and oranges. I discourage the use of that comparison. It's two different organs that function in two different ways, hence different kinds of pain. Instead use some injury your son is more familiar with. If your son ever got a Charlie horse, stubbed his toe, or sprained his ankle. Or better yet, say...

Gluten and rice causing neurological issues
knitty kitty replied to bechari's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
White rice is easily broken down into glucose. Our brains like to run on glucose. Unfortunately, white rice is usually enriched with thiamine mononitrate, which is shelf stable, but not a bioavailable form our bodies can use. Benfotiamine is a form of thiamine that helps promote healing in the small intestine. Hiding in Plain Sight:...
