Bumping this thread. I'm a student wanting to travel to Japan for study abroad. I also had the plan to rent an apartment and cook food to bring with me but honestly that detracts from the experience. I've travelled to Japan (months before celiac diagnosis) and had few problems or at least few problems compared to my travel companions (ha ha)....
