  1. Iron deficient anemia was the first sign I had of Celiac! I didn't even have intestinal symptoms at the time. A battery of tests eventually led to an endoscopy, which showed the telltale blunting of the intestinal villi. I was then given an iron gluconate supplement, and my blood iron levels actually went too high, but after going gluten free for a while...
  2. So being fatter might be healthier?? It sounds like this study might have been skewed based on how participants were selected. Did they just pick women who were either overweight or had celiac? If so, then obviously the celiac group would have less fat.
  3. I did not realize there is an HLA type that is associated with Celiac. I google it and found that while 90% of people with Celiac carry that marker, so do about 25% of the general population.
  4. Sorry, the question is if there is any insight as weather there would actually be gluten from the beer that would be in or on the chicken after cooking. We know alcohol evaporates off during cooking. My guess is the gluten would remain on the chicken skin, as gluten is not alcohol-soluble.
  5. There is a chicken place near me that says they marinate their chicken with beer before cooking. They say that people with celiac have tried it and did not get sick. Any guesses as to whether it is safe? (If I try it, I'll remove the skin first.)
  6. Just in case, I usually have a Gliadin X capsule before eating at a restaurant, though I really don't know how effective they are.
  7. I might have an addiction to bread, but I don't think I have an addiction to gluten. I am fine with gluten-free bread, as long as it has good taste and texture.
  8. Sorry, You are 100% correct. I based my statement on two websites I saw that say they are gluten free. One says, "Haribo gummies are generally considered gluten-free, as they are made from a mixture of sugar, corn syrup, and fruit juice, with no wheat, barley, or rye in sight." The other website says, "Haribo gummy bears, manufactured in the United States...
  9. Yah, there is no gluten in hand sanitizers, and if there was, the alcohol would not cause it to be absorbed through the skin. Proteins, such as gluten, are not soluble in alcohols.
  10. As an immunologist with Celiac, I am pleasantly surprised that a T-cell test would be sensitive enough to pick up celiac in gluten-free individuals, but I am skeptical that it will be made simple enough to do in clinical labs. Concerning eyesight improvements in celiac patients who go gluten-free, I have not experienced that, and I still need glasses. One...
  11. Twizzlers were the biggest surprise for me. Wheat is the second ingredient. I found that out the hard way.
  12. My gastroenterologist routinely requires someone come with endoscopy patients to help receive the aftercare instructions and drive the patient home, but he did not give me the Celiac diagnosis until days later in a phone message after the biopsy. I had no idea what Celiac was until I googled it after receiving my doctor's phone message. I called him the...
