  1. Another question.... What about dextrin and dextrose? I have been advoiding these items with the fear that they are from wheat and maybe also rice. Are these from corn too if done in the US?
  2. Is it always from corn if in the US? Could it ever be from rice?
  3. I live in Boerne and I will check our Dr. Pepper. I just checked and it says on the cans: HFCS. What size do you buy? I also so like the flavor of the Mexican Coke since it does taste like the Coke we used to drink when we were younger. It just get frustrating that every drink out there seems to have HFCS. I just looked at Arizona Lemon Tea, it has it too...
  4. Thanks, I'll have to look for that. I have never really thought about looking for special colas before but now... I hope they carry it at Sun Harvest, it's only 30 miles away verses 50 for Whole Foods. Thanks Have a great day! LyndaK
  5. I work at a grocery store and a lot of people are asking for the Coke made in Mexico since it is still made with sugar cane syrup rather than high frutose corn syrup. The Zoe 8 diet talks about how the HFCS is 10 times harsher on your body than regular sugar syrup is to digest. So my question is, is the carmel color in Coke from Mexico (since it is not made...
  6. Thanks so much! I will go buy some today!
  7. I love cinnamon gum but recently just thought that maybe I should look into which is safe for me. Is any gum safe? I am only interested in cinnamon gum since peppermint/ wintergreen/ etc. all make my tummy feel weird. Thanks Have a great day! LyndaK
  8. I thought Oreida Fries were safe but then I bought the 5# family bag (to save money). I then got sick then I remembered something about bag size makes a difference. Is this true?
  9. I'm so glad to hear that other people use pressure cookers. I am 37 and no one my age uses one. I grew up using one. I love it. I use mine for sloppy joes, spaghetti, stew, swiss steak, beef strognoff, corn on cob, green beans to name a few. If you are interested, let me know for any of the recipes. Have a good day!! LyndaK
  10. I'm putting my question here since it relates to flour. I just received as gifts the Dummy gluten-free book and the incredible edible for kids book. Most recipes in these call for rice flour. Can I subsititue another flour or starch for the rice flour? I am allergic to rice and it is hard to find recipes or mixes that have no rice. What is the ratio if any...

    ARCHIVED Pf Changs

I have to say that I really enjoy PF's. I had the lettuce wraps but noticed that the gluten-free sauce has rice wine (or vinegar) in it so I had the waiter take my web site printed menu to the chef and asked if it could be made without the rice (I'm allgeric to rice). And they did!! I did get sick but I believe I forgot to ask if the gluten-free soy sauce...
  12. Has anyone eaten at Mamacita's? I tried to find a web site for them but no luck? Thanks Have a good day! LyndaK
  13. I have yet to find a gluten-free bread that does not contain rice flour- either frozen or a mix. Maybe the Cebe mix doen't have rice. I'll have to check next time I head to Sun Harvest. Is there such a bread out there that is gluten-free and rice free? Have a good day! LyndaK
  14. Thank you so much for finding out that it is from corn. I didn't know what I was going to do if I had to quit eating M&M's. Yeah!!!! Have a good day! LyndaK
  15. Thank you for letting me know that you like her book. I am making the coffee cake as I write. I did notice that the book is from 2000 or 2001. But the main thing still is that all the ingredients are simple items and no rice flour. The info I read about is in the front where she writes about the different ingredients and utensils. Have a good day... ...
  16. The cookbook I read the annatto info is out of: The Gluten-Free Kitchen by Roben Ryberg. I bought it since almost all the recipes use something other than rice flour and since I am allergis to rice this seemed the best. I have yet to make anything but will this weekend. Has anyone used this book? Have a good day... LyndaK
  17. So is the dextrin in M&Ms from rice? I'm allgeric to rice but LOVE M&Ms (actually all choc.). Have a good day... LyndaK
  18. Now that made me laugh!!! I will for sure stay away from such broths! Thanks for the info on disodium. Now all I have to figure out is what the second word means. Have a good day.... LyndaK
  19. Thank you for replying. I found the disodium in the Smart Foods list but am unsure if the next word goes with it or not. I guess I am feeling frustrated with this whole what is safe or not. I have allergies to wheat and rice and am still waiting to hear back on an upper GI for celiac and to find items that are safe for me to eat is hard. I feel...
  20. So I bought a new gluten-free cook book and it states to avoid annatto (like in butter, margerine and cheeses). I looked it up, and it was confusing ....so said it was ok but others say its the alochol mixed with it that is the question. I also read that annatto comes from a plant that is closely related to the wheat family but does not produce gluten. ...
  21. I seem to get a bad response to regular block cheese. Is there anything I should be looking for in cheese? I can understand the processed cheese food slices or Velveeta and the such but plain ol cheese. Maybe, what brands? Thanks for any info. LyndaK
  22. So today was the day. I went in for my colonoscopy and while I was there I convinced the doctor to do an endoscopy on me too considering that there was a chance my blood test could come back with a false reading. He agreed with my logic and did it!!! Plus I figured I didn't want to go through all the prep again and pay for the "rent of the room" expenses...
  23. I am looking for Worcestshire sauce. Does anyone have a brand of one that is ok? No rice too. Thanks
  24. Thanks for all your input. I called my doctor today and asked if a colonoscopy was the correct thing to do or an endoscopy (I told her the patient of hers even recommended it- along with this site). But she still wanted it done. And of course, I forgot to ask why- I was at work at the time. I'll let you all know what the results are. Thanks!!!!
  25. This is all new to me. I have just been told that I have allergies to wheat and rice (but not oat). I have had the celiac sprue blood test... don't know yet. But I am also going in for a colonoscopy this Thursday. If my test comes back negative, can I have oat? What are my best bets for gluten-free and rice free? Thanks a bunch!!!!!
