  1. Update: We had a long talk over lunch yesterday (we both go home for lunch). Neither of us slept the night before, so we were both exhausted. He’s decided to go see a GI. I guess he’s been having a lot of cramping lately, and I guess what could be described as spasms in his gut. They are random, but really bother him. I can often hear his stomach gur...
  2. Thanks everyone, I know I won't be able to get him to go to a support group...he doesn't even think that gluten could be the problem. But I'll see if there's one I can find. We have another friend going through this, but he's been gluten-free for over a year and feels better, so he's all gung-ho about it and seemingly has no problems living that lifestyle...
  3. He hasn't given up yet, but is talking about it. We've been gluten-free since late May...5 months. There have been some accidental glutenings, but only 2 or 3 that I'm aware of. As far as other items...that's where I have a hard time. Our toothpaste is either Crest or Colgate, can't remember which. He uses Finesse shampoo and Old Spice body wash...
  4. Terrified is more like it!! You’ve all been so helpful and supportive in the past. My husband had another mini meltdown last night, and I’m not sure how much more I can take. I suspect he’s gluten intolerant, and we’ve been gluten-free for 5 months now. I think there has been improvement, but he doesn’t see it. He’s frustrated beyond belief and ...
  5. Ugh...I don't like hearing that! Well, it's been a week and a half since the chicken. The diarrhea stopped within a day or so, which is good. But he's still got the cramping (worse in the morning), worse than before the chicken. He describes it as though his guts are being twisted. He's particulary upset this weekend because a friend is having a...
  6. Thanks Lorka, I'll take a look at your recipe! Suzie, I'm American, but hubby is a Newfie (grew up in Clarenville).
  7. I will. I feel really horrible though, because today for lunch he ate...you guess it...leftover chicken! Luckily he only ate a tiny bit. I'm going to throw it our right now.
  8. Geez, do I feel like an idiot!! I actually realized after I reread what I posted....it must have been the chicken! It really didn't occur to me until then! Back to baking whole chickens myself, I guess. I usually only grab a chicken at the store when I'm in a pinch. Thanks!
  9. Hi, I posted yesterday in the "Healing Time After Glutening" thread, but it seems I did so hastily... After 4 months gluten free, my husband has had quite an improvement, until the last 2 days. He complained of feeling bloated after eathing Wednesday night, and had diarrhea yesterday...the first time in a couple of months, I think. The thing that...
  10. I’m glad I found this thread…I was about to start a similar one! My husband is the one who we suspect is gluten intolerant. We have been gluten-free for 4 months now, and while there has been improvement, it’s very slow. He has not been tested, and probably will not because he does not want to go back to eating gluten. Before gluten-free he had c...
  11. I’m sooo looking forward to the cooler weather (don’t really have winters in Houston) so I can make pea soup!! I recently received my shipment of salt beef (took almost a month to get here!), and we have several bags of yellow split peas in the pantry. But what about the dumplings? The dumplings I make now are obviously made with white flour, and the...
  12. I’m posting this here because in the end, it DOES have to do with my spouse. We found out this weekend that a friend of ours (34 yr old male) has colon cancer. I found out Friday night when I saw this couple at another friend’s house. I was floored and got quite upset. You see, my DH was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 2 years ago, and I wouldn’t w...
  13. My husband has not been tested yet, and I'm not sure he will be, but we believe he is either gluten intolerant or Celiac. He didn't start showing symptoms of celiac disease until just 2 years ago, but at the same time he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, so we had no idea what was going on...as far as we were concerned, everything had to do with his thyroid...
  14. I never thought of doing a beef roast...oh well. I've also decided to make a batch of Mexican rice to go w/ the enchiladas. He's going to be on his own w/ the gluten-free spaghetti. We have some, plus the Classico sauce and meatballs I made...he knows how to operate the microwave. I'll do the rice tomorrow...and then I'm done cooking. ...
  15. Food Saver is a home vacuum packer. Comes in very, very handy! I buy our meats in bulk at Sams, then break it all into smaller packages, freeze, and vacuum pack them. Also works good for frozen french fries, hash browns, coffee beans, ground coffee. The website is Open Original Shared Link
