  1. I have spoken with our local Walmart SuperCenter manager about getting gluten free products in their stores. I also emailed the home office. We'll see where that gets me. It's interesting that a "really, really high up" in Walmart has Celiac. You'd think he'd get on the band wagon and get some gluten-free products in his store! I have to drive 45 minutes...
  2. LKelly8- Thanks for the reply... So what's the gluten ingredient? Is it the caramel color? I have soooo much to learn! snowygiraffe - Don't forget to post your list. It will be very helpful!
  3. Have you noticed that on some Walmart Great Value brands they say "gluten free" under the ingredients? I have been looking for a site to find out their gluten free foods but cannot find one. I have some Great Value imitation vanilla but it doesn't say gluten free on it. The ingredients are water, propylene, glycol, vanillin, caramel color, 0.1% sodium...
  4. Just wonderin' what's on tap tonight for supper. Before celiac disease I would sit down and write out my menus for the month and now it overwhelms me to think about suppers anymore. I sat down yesterday and made a list of WF/gluten-free dinners which will help me. What are you guys having tonight? or What's your favorite gluten-free dinner?
  5. Okay, the bread is out of the bread machine and the bottom slice or two is doughy. This happened to a different recipe I tried also. Is it the machine? How long does your machine take to bake bread? What can I do to avoid this? Thanks for the help!
  6. I'd really like to use my bread machine to make my dh's bread. I have some in there now but right now it doesn't look real good. I'd like to know what recipes you use in your bread machines and any tips for using it. I had Bette's book from the library but don't have it now. I thought she said something about taking the paddle out after the first mix...
  7. For the last 2 years my 11 yr old dd has had stomach aches sometimes to the point that she would sweat and have to stop and lean on something to hold her up. We could never pinpoint what the problem was. We had her tested for celiac and it came back negative. She now takes a fiber chew everyday and doesn't hardly ever have the stomach aches anymore. Just...
  8. We're going up to the Dells next week and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for eating out. Any gluten-free restuarants? and what do you take with you for breakfast, snacks, etc? Thanks!
  9. Do you add xanthum gum to cookie recipes that don't call for it? I found a cookie flour mix on here that is to be substituted for all purpose flour in any "old" cookie recipe. Would you add x-gum and how much? It seems like I read somewhere about adding so much x-gum to each cup of flour. Can anyone help?
  10. For those of you who use Bette Hagman's "gluten-free Gourmet Bakes Bread"... I noticed someone said they use their bread machine. Do you have any tips for using a bread machine with her recipes? Any favorite recipe to use in the bread machine? I'm always looking for shortcuts here and there. Thanks!
  11. Thanks so much for all of your help! This board has been great for me! We now have 4 weeks under our belts and things are getting better. I am not so overwhelmed. At first celiac disease consumed my every thought. I actually had to tell myself I wasn't going to think about celiac disease for a day or two. That helped. My dh has found that he likes...
  12. My 11 yr old daughter has taken "gluten" chocolate crinkles to school for her birthday every year since kindergarten. She tried the gluten-free Chocolate Crinkles and loved them! I was so excited I had to share with you! I hope you try them! gluten-free Chocolate Krinkles - Yields 5 dozen 4 (4oz) squares unsweetened baking chocolate, melted ...
  13. I have read that many of you use your "non-gluten-free cookbooks" and substitute a gluten-free flour mix for regular flour. What is that? Is it the gluten-free flour mix in Bette Hagaman's book which is 2 parts rice flour, 2/3 parts potato starch and 1/3 part tapioca flour? Does it work well in most recipes? Is it substituted equally, 1 cup for 1 cup...
  14. I am new here and have been lurking quite a bit. The forums are very helpful. My husband was diagnosed with Celiac 2 weeks ago. I have been trying bread recipe after bread recipe and haven't found the "one" yet. I really need help! Please tell me what your favorite everyday bread recipe is and where I can find it. I borrowed "The Gluten-Free Gourmet...
