  1. So I've been gluten free for about a week and with the exception of one little slip, I've been feeling okay. So today for lunch I decide to go for some basic smoked ham (read the lable and there was nothing bad) and some cheese. I had two slices each of provolone and mozzerella. Within 15 minutes of finishing the cheese, I started to get stomach pains...
  2. Anyone here from Montreal? I live in the West Island. Laura
  3. Another big BBQ chicken chain here in Montreal also sells their dipping sauce in the grocery stores. It's a different taste from the place I went to, but I'm sure they are all made the same. I have a couple of packets in my pantry (which I forgot I had) I just read the ingredients: glucose solids, cornstarch, salt, chicken fat, hydrolyzed plant protein...
  4. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if there was some sort of seasoning on the baked potato skin...it was rather crunchy and flavourful. Regarding the soy, I've been on it on and off for a couple of years. It helps control the hot flashes and perimenopausal symptoms. I can't take HRT because I have migraines. I just recently started...
  5. Yikes, I feel cruddy! Yesterday my kids went to see a soccer game with my brother so hubby and I decided to splurge and bring home some take out BBQ chicken. Prior to getting it I phoned and asked if they used any gluten in their chicken. They had no clue what I was talking about. I told them I can't tolerate wheat products...flour, proteins, etc. They...
  6. I guess it's all a matter of mindset. There are a lot of foods that I love that I won't be able to have...but it's a small price to pay I guess for feeling good. Thank you for the offer to pick up some stuff for me. I did a search and actually found a place that is based out of Laval, which is just north of Montreal. It's called Open Original Shared...
  7. 5 pieces of bread a day? Believe me when I tell you that for me that is NO hardship at all. I'll pig out on bagels and cream cheese...or better still bagels with bacon and cheese. Y-U-M-M-Y-Y-Y-Y! You know, this is not going to be easy for me. I went shopping for some groceries yesterday and was amazed at how little real gluten-free stuff...
  8. The thing is that I'm trying to figure out if it really is the gluten and not something else that's causing me problems. This is my 3rd day gluten free and I find that my energy level is better and that the worst of the nausea and vertigo is gone. I did wake up with abdominal pains this morning but that went away when I "went" ...first "normal" one in...
  9. I don't know if this has been mentioned here in the past but there's a Specialty Food Store in the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto that sells a variety of specialty foods including gluten free. They ship all over Canada and you can shop online. Here's their link: Open Original Shared Link The real drawback is that it's blinkin' EXPENSIVE. Laura
  10. Thank you for your very prompt reply. I figure I'll be lucky to get an appointment with my new doctor some time in August, so do you think it would be okay to try to go gluten-free for about a month then start on the gluten again a few weeks prior? You know, I spent yesterday reading the labels of all the food in my pantry. I was AMAZED at where I found...
  11. Hi all! I'm Laura and I'm a relatively healthy 43 year old woman who has been feeling absolutely HORRID for the past few months. I've been doing some research on gluten intolerance and celiac and have been trying very hard not fall victim to "Med Student's Disease." (I'm a nurse and when I was a student several classmates and I came up with the name...
