Hookworm load planner
Part of the problem people run into is they don't know how many hookworm larvae to use and how frequently. So likely everybody else these days, I wrote an app.
Celiac.com Sponsor (A13):
It's on a web page over at https://helios-ledger.com/tools/hookworm-planner/ and is free to use.
Most people would just enter sample numbers and see where their hookworm carry would end up. In my case I dose 25 hookworm larvae every 5 months, and I know they die off after 6.5 months (I know this from experience). You can see from the chart I wander briefly into the yellow zone after an inoculation. That's where people can have discomfort from hosting too many hookworms. In my case that's the price I pay for ensuring continuous coverage and not having to inoculate very often. I've never experienced any discomfort, so I plan on continuing this dose schedule.
Using the app, if one were to enter a dose of 10 larvae, every 6 weeks, and hookworms persist for 9 months (39 weeks), you can see that the hookworms really build up because they are being added far faster than they are dying off. A person on this dose schedule would likely experience some discomfort.
The app also has a solver. If you know that you want to host 15 hookworms, you can work out what dose and how often to make that happen.
Suggestions are welcome. It's still a little buggy, especially on mobile, but it's getting there and is usable now.
