So I accidentally bought some chocolate, and I've discovered that after eating the 70% kind, the 'normal' dark chocolate (45%) tastes like milk chocolate.

Man, I HATE when that happens. . . .. ... . ..Who hasn't, in their stressed, rushed, lives, confused that big head o' broccoli in the grocery bin for that box of chocolate right beside it? They need to separate these items within the store -- too easily confused, and then BAM! I've got a big container o' chocolate in my house.. .. . . ....

School is out again today. Everything is covered in a thick layer of ice.

DD, in an attempt to de-ice her car, has broken her back windshield (she was using a hammer :o ). Many tears followed :( .

Tis 2F (-16C) here. Down to -12 tonite ( not including wind chill). What is the point of the psnaugh if it's too cold to play in it?

I think you mean he did NOT see his shadow. And yes, I am sooo ready for an early spring.

25 degrees here....not too terrible, but I will be driving my daughters newly air-conditioned car to the repair shop....brrrrr :ph34r:

She had already broken her ice scraper yesterday, trying to chip away the ice from her car. She saw a neighbor doing it (although I think his was a mallet), so......

Good news

The windshield will cost $400 to replace, BUT........the company she works for will reimburse her.

Hubby just tried to do some shoveling . . . he DID get a layer off so that we can get the back door open to let JoDog out to take cake of bidness. I asked if he was going to try the driveway next <snort>. . . it ain't happenin'.

I don't think we got as much as they predicted, but what we got is bad enough . . . sleet fused together with ice . . . very slick and concretish at our house. Have absolutely no idea what the roads are doing. Nobody's moving thru the neighborhood at all. Neighbor kids were ice skating in the cul-de-sac yesterday. We've got some tree limbs down but they're not too big. Of course the tree I would most like to lose (and replace with something much better) is standing strong.

It is rather sublime, here, outside. Blowing psnaough... . . .like a wee blizzard. Ice is forming, but haven't seen any tree limbs down as yet. Spotty power outages. We are so accustomed to this, it is a regular day. Kids at school, buses moving, all kinds of cars on the roads, pedestrains plowing through the sidewalks and streets. . . . . ...... .

We's a crazy lot... . . .. ... :rolleyes:

Yeah, we would have had school cancelled, grocery stores out of food cuz peep's are freaking out and buying everything on the shelves, regular TV programs interrupted bu "Special Breaking News" reporting each new cm of psnoh and every accident on the road :rolleyes:

I just want a psnoh day-WITH power outage- to have an excuse to stay in bed and read all day! :)

Things are going a wee bit haywire for Clark and me. Saw FP on Wednesday and now I have to see five specialists and have 5 tests done. Then yesterday my DH called at 7:30 AM to let me know his department is being transferred to Cambridge Mass. WTF? we just got here 6 months ago. Spent the day wondering all the 3 W's . Had to wait until 5:30 PM to find out any info. We talked it over last night and I think it's going to take 18 to 24 months before the actual move. We're going to stay in RI and he'll probably take an apartment with some of the other displaced men and come home Friday through Sunday. We lived like that for 3 months last year but it was at the height of my illness. It still sucked. This would be for about 5 years and then he could retire at 55. I'm glad that we won't be selling the house (as if we could in this market) and we're pretty sure he won't be one of the people laid off. But I see now why he has said the Pfizer has a horrible reputation.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Cool tunnel!!! . . . Karen, is it big enough to make a tunnel for the car to get out of the drive thru?

Hubby keeps going out and hacking at the drive and them coming back in to say he can't make a dent then going back out to hack at the drive . . . etc . . . he's talking about using the ax . . . hope I can get him to the ER when he has a heart attack or accidently chops his foot off.

      Kinda glad I read this and some related materials. My celiac symptoms seem mild and I sometimes question if the hassle of the gluten-free diet/lifestyle is worth it for mild symptoms. This is one of the answers to that. gluten-free diet can delay onset/progression of autoimmune polyglandular syndrome, but cannot reverse it.

      Interesting I read that toasted kasha groats have nutty flavor which I thought like oatmeal with banana and yogurt. Yes quinoa I have for dinner looking to switch oatmeal to buckwheat for breakfast. I have to look into amaranth

      I've never tried bananas or yogurt with kasha. It would probably work but in my mind I think of kasha as being on the savory side so I always add butter, peanut butter, or shredded cheddar cheese. Next time I make it I will try yogurt and banana to see for myself. Amaranth has a touch of sweet and I like to pair it with fruit. Quinoa is more neutral. I eat...

      The basic seems more like oatmeal. You can also add yogurt banana to it like oatmeal right. I see rinsing as first step in basic recipes like this one https://busycooks.com/how-to-cook-toasted-buckwheat-groats-kasha/ I don't understand why since kasha is toasted and not raw. What about buckwheat flake cereal or is this better to go with.

I eat it plain, like rice, with chicken stock or other savory things, or with coconut milk. Since coconut milk works, I would think yogurt would work (with the quinoa). I went to the link you posted. I really don't know why they rinse the kasha. I've eaten it for decades and never rinsed it. Other than that, her recipe seems fine (that is, add the buckwheat with the water, rather than wait until the water is boiling). She does say something that I forgot: you want to get roasted/toasted buckwheat or you will need to toast it yourself. I've never tried buckwheat flakes. One potential issue with flakes is that there are more processing steps and as a rule of thumb, every processing step is another opportunity for cross-contamination. I have tried something that was a finer grind of the buckwheat than the whole/coarse and I didn't like it as much. But, maybe that was simply because it wasn't "normal" to me, I don't know.

      Celiac disease can have neurological associations, but the better-described ones include gluten ataxia, peripheral neuropathy, headaches or migraine, seizures, cognitive symptoms, and, rarely, cerebral calcifications or white-matter changes. Some studies and case reports describe brain white-matter lesions in people with celiac disease, but these are not specific to celiac disease and can have many other explanations. A frontal lobe lesion could mean many different things depending on the exact wording of the report: a white-matter spot, inflammation, demyelination, a small old stroke, migraine-related change, infection, trauma, vascular change, seizure-related change, tumor-like lesion, artifact, or something that resolved on repeat imaging. The word “transient” usually means it changed or disappeared, which can happen with some inflammatory, seizure-related, migraine-related, vascular, or imaging-artifact situations.  Hopefully they will find nothing serious.
