sarah..........ohhhh. :( I don't know what to think or say about this diagnosis. Miralax, forever? Wow. Somehow, I don't think that's the final answer......but SO glad you can get into that facility later. You guys are going through too much this past year. I'm starting to wonder if your house is poisoning you! :unsure: (except, your hubby's healthy, isn't he?)

I remember wondering this myself, Sarah.....your house is healthy, right? No mold, asbestos, etc.? Poor widdle Luke! let's hope the Miralax acts like dynamite, and you can reassess when his bowels are normal.

I read that as "sugary", which I do believe would have a totally other meaning :nervouslaughface:

Yeah, Brian's pretty healthy! With the Miralax... Ugh, I know. What I'm thinking though, is that if there's an underlying problem, it's going to come through anyway, eventually. So it's a step forward no matter what... I hope... right? ... Sigh... As for disagreeing with someone, yeah I know. <_< Honestly, with the day I've had today, I'm sick of the whole stupid thing. <_< I am, however, incapable of letting something like this go. :(

Sorry about the disappointing appointment Sarah :( I do hope the Miralax will at least get things moving in the meantime, that is for sure the priority.

Yeah, that's definitely number one right now.

Sarah--I'm sorry the appt wasn't what you had hoped, but good news that the spot on his leg was "only" eczema and nothing more serious.

I had a gastro in NJ who used the term IBS <_< , but still acknowledged that there was a cause. Hopefully, the Miralax will <_< work while a real cause is looked into :)

That's what I'm hoping!

Yeah, nothing like that. Our house is pretty new... only about 8 years old, I think. I don't think there's any nasties lurking. Honestly, these health problems have been going on for years, dating before we lived here too...

It's been a weird progression. Luke's potty problems, well at first we thought they were potty training issues. It took a long time for us to realize that there was a physical problem. Then my mom was dxed with Celiac, and I took a look at Luke first. Put him on the gluten-free diet, and all his problems went away. The only symptom that has come back is the constipation.

It's ironic, because it was the constipation and accidents that initially made me look at Celiac for him. It was only then that I realized so many other things could be symptoms... His dental problems, low energy and fatigue, dark circles under his eyes, the mystery low-grade fevers, constant viruses and infections. All that has stayed gone, and he does get terrible symptoms when he gets glutened-- wicked cramps, diarrhea, you know the drill. So I know gluten is a problem... it's just this one awful symptom that has come back and won't go away. :(

If I had been able to get him to a specialist before, and get actual testing, instead of always trying to figure everything out on my own... If I'd been able to do that a couple years ago, maybe we wouldn't even be going through this right now. Okay... trying not to go down the guilt road, I've already been doing the random tears and sniffles today. :rolleyes:

Yeah .. .or sorta . .it's the pill that's an all-everything multi w/ 45 vits/minerals/enzymes/probi etc.

A separate probiotic from her does say DF.

I'd just misread surgery as sugary 3x in a minute before seeing this!! :lol:

Aaaaaand the Miralax works... too well? It gave him diarrhea. :unsure: Maybe I'll try him on a 1/2 dose tomorrow. Thank God he made it to the bathroom, because that poor little boy is empty now. :unsure:

She looked at the mark on his leg- checked out the pores with her scope thingy- and it's nummular eczema. Basically this is just a particular shape- circular, coin sized- of eczema. While we were looking at it, we found other, patchier areas of eczema on his hip. She thinks it's probably caused by stress from the bathroom issues.

I think that's what I was dx with years ago....although I don't know how competent he was <_< He told me to take fewer showers (dry skin sopposedly makes it worse), wrote my a topical prescription, but also said that Crisco would work just as well. :huh: It hasn't come back since I've been gluten free.

Yeah, that's definitely number one right now.

Actually , shouldn't that be #2?????? :lol:

The poor kid--yeah definately try just a half dose tomorrow. That stuff must be very potent.....never used a laxative in me life---I'm more a "need a cork" kinda girl :lol:

:lol: :lol: :lol: Me too. Even in normal situations. I was taking iron three times a day and all it did was make the event, uh, slightly gooier...

I understand that. Iron did nothing to slow things down for me when me villi were still healing . . . it just gave me heartburn!

Oh, lovely! Sophie's just made a big bowl of microwave popcorn to munch on in front of the TV. It has questionable "natural flavouring" listed on the package. Ah, hell! Jus' hand me a Glutenease! :lol:<_<

      Anyone else get a lot of upper respiratory infections?

      I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired. I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years, I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young...

      Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

      Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways. I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux. Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following...

      Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.

      Yes, some people with celiac disease do seem to deal with frequent infections, especially if they have ongoing inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, asthma/allergies, or another immune issue going on. Low vitamin D can also affect immune function, so it would be reasonable to ask your doctor to recheck vitamin D, iron/ferritin, B12, folate, zinc, and possibly...

      Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Low vitamin D can also affect immune function, so it would be reasonable to ask your doctor to recheck vitamin D, iron/ferritin, B12, folate, zinc, and possibly general immune markers if this keeps happening. Also, people with celiac disease can have reduced spleen function, or hyposplenism, which is one reason some celiac organizations recommend pneumococcal vaccination or making sure you are up to date on pneumonia-related vaccines. Since you are getting bronchitis, pneumonia, and frequent colds in your late 20s, I would not just brush it off, especially if symptoms are lingering after a week and a half. It may or may not be directly from celiac, but repeated respiratory infections are worth documenting and discussing with your doctor, and possibly with an allergist/immunologist or pulmonologist.
