  1. Isn't that the truth! We all make mistakes, and it takes a while to learn new habits. Congrats on getting your house gluten free. That will really help. Your husband might need some extra assurance right now that this is hard now, but it will get easier and will all be worth it. Tell him often how much you appreciate his help and support. Positive...
  2. Kristin, You're going to be fine! Learning how to cook is harder than learning where the gluten is, so you're more than halfway there! I'm still getting the baking thing down, too. Most attempts are at least edible, so it really helps if you change your mindset. It might not taste exactly like what you remember, but it can still taste good. My non...
  3. My beloved hubby is totally supportive but didn't believe a single crumb could make me sick until it happened. We had a meal where everything was safe except his flour tortilla, which only he handled. I got sick, and was thinking, great, now I'm getting sensitive to something else! Later in the evening he realized he had touched the shredded cheese after...
  4. Okay, I realize I'm lucky that I only react to 4 things (so far). Everyone, I'm so sorry you have so many intolerances! My reactions are gluten (worst), chicken (almost as bad), broccoli (mild in comparison) and cabbage (ditto). All hit me in the lower abdomen, with pain, bloating, and C. I've been gluten free since the beginning of August, so haven...
  5. Welcome SVG! I'm also new, gluten free for about 1 month, and it does get easier. Just read TCA's link, very helpful, thanks TCA! You will find lots of great info on this site. If it weren't for these great people, I wouldn't have a clue where to begin. ~Li
  6. Convenience...being able to eat at a restaurant spontaneously...being able to buy something in a grocery store without first researching it, double checking the ingredients, and/or calling the company from the middle of the supermarket aisle...lugging safe food where ever I go... ~Li
  7. I agree, listen to your body. It will tell you what it wants. I had a negative blood test for celiac, but I know that gluten and a few other foods make me miserable. It takes time, but you will find what works for you. ~Li

    ARCHIVED "the Trigger"

I've had alopecia areata since I was 14 (I'm 37 now) but otherwise had no symptoms, and an iron stomach, until I was 32. I had just gotten married, moved, started a new, stressful job, when my insurance changed my birth control pill prescription from brand name to a generic. My symptoms started the day I took that first pill. I switched back as soon as...
  9. harley, I am also new to this, just went gluten free on August 4, 2006. From what I've read on the board and my own experience, it's completely normal to have good days and bad days. Cross contamination has been the big issue for me. When I get glutened, I can usually trace it back to the peanut butter jar or the sugar bowl or baking soda that was used...
