ARCHIVED Having A Scary Episode Of Vertigo

Thanks for letting me know. I've been taking these meds for 8 days and I haven't noticed any change at all. -
ARCHIVED Having A Scary Episode Of Vertigo
Gamecreature replied to mesmerize's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Is that working for you? I've been Gluten free for about 6 months and I've been experiencing vertigo for about 4.5 weeks now. I went to the doctor last week and they noted the nystagmus with my eye movements and suggested that it's related to allergies (pollen appears to be very high this season). They gave me some allergy medicine and Antivert, but so far... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Eatright Products
Gamecreature posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My parents (bless them) sent me a package of eatright Gingerchoc cookies and I must say that they were delicious. The only problem is that the closest Wholefoods market is quite a distance from where I live. Are there any other stores that carry their products or can someone point me to a reasonable facsimile? Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Need Help With This Please...
Gamecreature replied to TiffTiff's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You're going to need to decontaminate. Go through your kitchen and collect and dispose of anything containing Wheat, Rye or Barley (that includes Rice Krispies cereal, sorry) and then do a thorough cleaning to get rid of any crumbs, etc. in your cabinets and pantry. I think there's a list around here someplace of what cooking tools you'll need to replace... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Write A gluten-free Cookbook

Read up on "fair use" in the "Part 2" link I posted above. If you want to sell the thing (and even if you don't) you might want to make sure that you've added something of value to any recipes that come from other sources. Obviously if you've made a change to make sure it's gluten-free and doesn't grow legs and start attacking people, I think that would qualify... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Scheduled...freaking Out..
Gamecreature replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Everyone is different, but I'll tell you that frequent bouts with acid reflux and other problems kept me going to the GI until he finally ordered the bloodwork for Celiac. I've been gluten-free for about 7 weeks now and (when I'm not accidentally gluttening myself) my acid reflux has almost completely gone away. I actually was able to eat pepperoni... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Scheduled...freaking Out..
Gamecreature replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, if I understand correctly, they're not making any extra holes in you so it's not as risky a procedure as surgery. They're just sticking a camera through an existing opening. It's done on an outpatient basis - I didn't even have to take off my pants. I don't know how things will be done at your facillity, but there was no exposure to other patients when... -
I'm looking for anyone interested in starting a support group in McHenry county Illinois. So far, the groups that I've found in the Chicago area are too far away. I'm looking for something closer to Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Woodstock, McHenry, etc. Anyone else out there?

ARCHIVED Biopsy Scheduled...freaking Out..
Gamecreature replied to chgomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do they want you to eat gluten before the test? If not, it really is no big deal. There was no discomfort at all and the drugs they gave me left me with no memory of the procedure at all. -

I ran across an interesting series of articles on copyright. This pretty much explains everything you can and can't do and why (for instance) Andy Warhol was able to get away with making art out of Campbell's soup cans. ARCHIVED Cnn Special On Celiac Tomorrow ?

I'd be glad to, but I don't seem to be able to find the thread you're referring to. What forum is it in? -
ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
Gamecreature replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gee, I'd be happy just to find a support group to snub me. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one in the county who has it. -
ARCHIVED Cnn Special On Celiac Tomorrow ?
Gamecreature replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Publications & Publicity
Not to derail the thread, but here's some browser answers for you. The rumor is that IE7 is designed the way it is to drum up support for the new Vista OS that's due out soon. While it certainly appears rushed (it ignores more than a few established web standards) I can't imagine how this would make anyone want to rush out and buy Vista. There is a... -
ARCHIVED Cnn Special On Celiac Tomorrow ?
Gamecreature replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Publications & Publicity
The video appears fine on my Firefox browser, but it's cropped on IE7 (microsoft really messed things up with this upgrade). I wrote a message to the webmaster to see if there's anything they can do about it. -
ARCHIVED Got Really Sick This Afternoon
Gamecreature replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think the candies themselves are fine, provided they are the same size and shape as the regular product I see no reason why they'd be prepared any differently. The only possible problem is the packaging and whether or not gluten is present when these things are being bagged. The candies that are not packaged in fun-sized bags for Halloween are marked as... -
ARCHIVED Fuming...mil Doesn't 'get It'!
Gamecreature replied to anerissara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think Rat Poison is the proper metaphor. When you consider the damage it causes to your intestine, I think Draino is more appropriate. Does she smoke? If not, ask her how she would feel if you offered her a cigarette. Use her own words - "It is well worth it even if you do get sick." Lots of people do things that are bad for them but if she won't... -
ARCHIVED Strange Change In Appetite
Gamecreature replied to Shawn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Before I was diagnosed with Celiac my doctor put me on a low carb diet, including a reduction in sugar. I cut out all high-fructose corn syrup, which meant just about all processed sweets. Now these candies seem so sweet to me as to almost be unbearable. -
ARCHIVED The Severe Glutening Incidents Are Scaring The Daylights Out Of Me
Gamecreature replied to elaine33's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The main difference is that before you were gluten-free, you experienced the symptoms all the time, so the effect becomes so much "background noise" to your life. When you go gluten-free, that background noise is removed, so when it comes back, it's much more noticeable. -
ARCHIVED 1 Week Into Being Gluten Free And...
Gamecreature replied to Curious121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's not wheat, it's barley malt. Don't know why, but malt is a popular sweetener in a lot of processed food, especially anything with processed rice (that means Nestle's Crunch, Hershey's Krackle, M&M's Krispy and the 100 Grand bar to name a few). Oddly enough, Post Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles do not use malt, which is probably one of the reasons that... -
ARCHIVED 1 Week Into Being Gluten Free And...
Gamecreature replied to Curious121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I noticed that as well. My guess is that it's probably just easier to say Rice Krispies treats than gluten-free rice cereal treat. That's my hope, anyway, but yes, that's one of the mistakes I mentioned in that proverbial first week that didn't count. We really need to come up with a new name for that snack one of these days. -
ARCHIVED 1 Week Into Being Gluten Free And...
Gamecreature replied to Curious121's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
During my first week of gluten-free I made so many mistakes that I don't think it really counts. Foods that I assumed were gluten-free actually weren't. Interestingly enough, when I ate something that I later learned had gluten in it I had a very strong reaction, much stronger than I had before I went gluten-free. You notice it more when it's no longer there... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Write A gluten-free Cookbook
Gamecreature replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Publications & Publicity
I agree wholeheartedly. While it is not necessary, if you are really concerned you should take the steps to register your copyright with the copyright office. There is a fee, of course, but it's pretty reasonable, all things considered. As an illustrator, there's enough of my work out there to make it pretty easy to establish whether or not the work in... -

That's the one. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. I'd like to check out the article on the paper's website, but it's kind of hard to make out. Do you happen to have that information?
