  1. Are there regular fast food chains in disney in Orlando, like Wendy's? I do not know what to do about food while I am there. Are there some things that are usually gluten-free at places like that? I really need some good advice. I get hungry often and need to eat, and bringing a big thing of food is not going to be realistic. Karina
  2. I got sick the first time I ate at PF Changs. I decided to try again, and you will not believe what happened. My husband ordered off of the gluten-free menu so we could share and I got the spicy chicken, well his came out and I knew the noodles were wheat noodles! I asked about it and the guy took it back into the chef and came back out and said, "It is...
  3. I am one of those women who cannot tolerate bc, of any kind (hormonal) it seems. I have tried various pills and am now on the patch. The patch definately worsens my celiac disease symptoms, although since being gluten-free, it has improved, but still sometimes I have abdominal pain when I havn't eaten anything, and I know it is from the patch. Sadly,...
  4. Karen, How absolutely thrilling for you! It really has made my afternoon to know someone out there has made such an important discovery! I can sense your excitement and I am really happy for you. Everyone has given you really great advice thus far, and i don't have anymore to add on that front!
  5. Yes, I am still suspicious of the yogurt. On a previous call to Stoneyfield, I was told the only one that was for sure safe was the plain as well. As for the spices--I am the same in that I only use Mccormick ones because I know they are safe, but in this instance, I had this other spice that was just a single spice from another co (Spice Island) and of...
  6. Well the mayo was brand new, never been used. I called the yogurt co. and they said that all the grain alcohol is burned off in the processing and so IF there were any gluten it would have been airborne and not measurable. I am wondering about the Spice Island spice I used and they do not have a ph # to call. I do think it is possible this is a virus....
  7. I had posted about Monday night, how I ate out and either had food poisoning or gluten. Well tonight it happened again, but I made dinner at home and I thought all the ingredients were gluten-free. As soon as the meal was over, the nausea hit and this time I threw up. I have vomited twice--no bm yet. I made a "sauce" out of yogurt and mayo, with some...
  8. I had this saucy shrimp, that was supposed to be gluten-free according to their gluten-free menu. I also had a salad with their dressing and I had creme brulee--all of these were supposed to be gluten-free. I started feeling bloated when I was eating the shrimp--it was very rich sauce and now it makes me sick just thinking about it. When we left the restaurant...
  9. Mark, my chest pain is mostly left-sided as well and it is possible it is just costochondritis--but I needed to rule out cardiac of course. I know what you mean about the dairy--that would be very hard for me--I know I should probably cut down on it at the least as so many alternative health practitioners do not like dairy and I may have a sensitivity...
  10. I am Scotch-Irish on my mothers side, and German/French on my fathers side. I have celiac and we don't know if one of my parents has it --mom is getting tested and she does have symptoms. The doc thinks I may have hemochromotosis (iron-overload) and it is also known as "The Celtic Curse"! Guess thats what they call the "luck of the Irish".
  11. Sorry I havn't been aroung for awhile--was busy and actually was trying to stay that way and avoid dwelling on these negative things too much (esp. when I am waiting for test results and can't do anything else in the meantime). Thankyou for all the replies. Mark, have they told you why your bilirubin is high and iron too? Are they not concerned because...
  12. Marianne, From what I can tell Gilberts sydrome is considered medically benign. It is a problem with bilirubin, you will have elevated bilirubin levels, but the rest of your liver profile will be normal. You may have jaundice with it, and according to one website I read on it there are certain symtoms that can accompany it. My GI doc, said not to worry...
  13. I guess I just need to vent. My GI guy called me last week with news that he thinks I have something called Gilberts syndrome and may also have hemochromatosis (iron over load). My other docs office called and won't tell me my lab results on my heart test (predictive for heart attack), and want me to come in this week for echocardiogram (I was already scheduled...
  14. Lorraine, My doc is doing a genetic test to see if I have it. Have you had that done? He also said that the disease doesn't really manifest itself in women until age 50-60 due to pregnancies and menstruation. I was anemic in my pregnancies and had to take supplemental iron . Another weird thing is a few months ago when I had a physical my "iron" level...
  15. My doc called with lab results today. I had a bunch of minerals and stuff tested for since my celiac disease diagnosis. Anyway, my iron panel stuff was HIGH not low, and in fact it was significantly high, so doc says I may have Hemochromotosis, which can lead to liver problems later. I am so confused, b/c you would think having celiac disease would make...
  16. Thanks for the replies. Thomas I had never heard of that I will have to give that a try. Kay Jay, I am on the BC patch, so I know gluten is not a problem there. It has made me gain weight, which at first I was excited about--I'll take it any way I can get it . I have been more vigilient the past few days, and have felt better over all, but I eat dairy...
  17. I am pretty thin, but after I eat anything I just bloat right up. Lately I have been having a lot of abd. pain too. I have been gluten-free for less than two weeks with several accidents, and in fact my lipstick could even have gluten in it, I need to get even stricter with this I know, but I am just starting out, and giving up bread and pasta and cake...
  18. Seeing what is up with my kids is my next agenda. My son has a really huge belly, and skinny everything else. He is tall, so I am sure his doc will think everything is fine. Well, I am going to make sure. I will pay for a gene test for both my son and daughter if need be. If they don't have the gene, then I know they will never get it--if they do then...
  19. Missy, I am so sorry this is happening to you. I had many of the symptoms you described (constant headache, numbness and tingling in extremeties with weakness, clumsiness, fatigue) My doc thought maybe MS so had a MRI done, it was fine. Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, I had come up with a theory about those symptoms. They started with me...

    ARCHIVED Chest Pain

Rick, I have not had a stress test, and even though I am a nurse I cannot tell you if my pain is like angina, b/c I have never felt it before, and many of my patients have had atypical angina--so I guess it could be, although I do not get chest pain from exertion, but I do get short of breath on exertion. Thomas, Since I am a newly diagnosed celiac...
  21. Interesting. Last year I had an MRI of the brain to check for MS as I had many MS symtoms. It was negative. I hadn't a clue as to what celiac disease was or what it involved and now I am diagnosed. I have had symtpoms a long time--probably all my life really. I hope I don't have something new to worry about now. I am gluten-free now, but only for two...
  22. My IgG was high (86), something else was borderline pos. (IgG retic?). that was it on my bloodwork. Doc said we needed to do endoscopy. We did. It was positive. It happens. BTW I had similar symtoms off and on with milk (but I could tolerate cheese and icecream--apparently according to one of my docs this is not too uncommon with lactose intolerance...
  23. Sounds like you may want to consider an endoscopy. It is the only sure way of knowing, although many here have just diagnosed it themselves by going gluten-free and seeing major improvements. You definately have some of the classic celiac disease symptoms, and suggestive bloodwork, so what does your doc say about the results?
  24. Hey all! I have been having chest pains for about 7 mos. now. In fact, they started about the same time the GI symptoms from my celiac disease started. At first, I assumed indigestion, but then I thought it should be checked. I mentioned it to my PCP and he said he thought it was costochodritis (inflammation of the rib cage area). I mentioned it to my...
  25. My father has this. He is old, but he had had problems for a long time. He has had two hip relacements, but he says the back is what is causing the bulk of his pain. I just got diagnosed with celiac disease. My mom has symptoms so she is getting tested, but my dad thinks maybe HE is the one who has it. I guess he has some GI issues he hasnt discussed...
