ARCHIVED Celiac And Stomach Viruses
Karina replied to rafunk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Momma, First I might encourage you to do the endoscopy again. If you had both the endo and colonoscopy at the same time last time, it was most likely the colonoscopy that was what made it so bad. There is no prep for and endoscopy, and they knock you out for it. It is very quick. I have no recollection of mine--it was a breeze. Maybe you had other... -
ARCHIVED B12 Deficiency
Karina replied to Meenucat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Meenucat, I am sorry you didn't find answers yet. I would ask you GI for a report of the endoscopy. Does it just say "negative" or what? I know that several here have had negative endoscopies, but have gone on the diet, and bam! Felt better. Maybe you should try the diet for a few months and see. I know it is a big commitment, and all, but it may be... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy On Thursday
Karina replied to j9n's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Dont worry about the endoscopy, mine was a cake walk. I don't remember a thing! I have found this to be everyone's experience that I have talked to. Good luck and keep us posted. Karina -
Hi all! I just received my biopsy results from the doc's office, and there was damage consistent with celiac disease. The nurse set me up for an appt. three weeks away to discuss everything, and then she said she was sending me information to look over in the meantime. I wondered why so long before the appt. (she said doc specifically wanted to wait 2...

ARCHIVED B12 Deficiency
Karina replied to Meenucat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Meenucat, I got my endoscopy results back, and they are positive for celiac disease. The doc is sending me stuff in the mail and then I am supposed to see him May 5 to discuss everything. Have you gotten your endoscopy results back? I have been wondering about your results since are symptoms were so similar. My abdominal pain is back. It seems I had... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed, Have Questions
Karina posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
OK, so I get the news today that my endoscopy is positive for celiac--the damage was patchy and mild according to the nurse, and I will see the doc in May to discuss. Meanwhile they are sending me stuff in the mail about the diet and disease and such. As much research as I have been doing lately I found myself feeling rather strange about having this actually... -
Steve, I got the word back today on my edoscopy and it was mild damage consistent with Celiac Sprue. I guess this makes my diagnosis official. The doc is sending me info on it, and wants to see me in two to three weeks for a question and answer session, etc. I am wondering how were you diagnosed with Crohns? Just by colonoscopy or did you have a barium...

ARCHIVED Upper Gi Test
Karina replied to Meenucat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The only test I can think of that your co-worker may be referring to is a barium enema...I am sure this would not be pleasant...I have not had this done and I havn't seen any of my patients have it done, so I can't tell you for certain about it. I don't know why there would be a general rule about sedation, unless the fluid causes some sort of vasal reaction... -
ARCHIVED Upper Gi Test
Karina replied to Meenucat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I. am not sure what you mean by tubes of fluid. Typically an upper GI is an Xray, where they use contrast in order to visualize the intestines, stomach, etc. You drink the contrast and then have the xrays taken. The contrast doesn't taste great, and its no picnic, but far from a horror story I think. Is this what you are talking about? karina -
ARCHIVED B12 Deficiency
Karina replied to Meenucat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Meenucat, I guess I will ask about a b12 test the next time I see the doc. My abdominal pain started about seven mos ago, and it does not cause me to vomit. I can function pretty ok with it, it just hurts. I have had a few times where it hurt really badly without me even touching it, and I can not feel it and then touch where it is and it will start... -
ARCHIVED B12 Deficiency
Karina replied to Meenucat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
wHOOPS! I sent it without finishing. Anyway, I was also going to add that I am waiting to hear the results of my endoscopy as well. I had it about a week and a half ago. Did you have blood work too? I mean a celiac panel? Karina -
ARCHIVED B12 Deficiency
Karina replied to Meenucat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Meenucat, You have caused me to wonder about B-12 deficiency in myself. I remember wondering this before and I guess with other s\tuff going on I forgot about it. I used to get really bad tingling in legs and feet every day. Doc thought poss. MS so did a CT of the brain and a nerve conduction test. Everything was normal. I don't believe they have... -
Steve, I am currently being worked up for Celiac (endoscopy done last monday). My doc said he thought I may have either celiac disease or Crohns based on my symptoms (I had right sided abd. pain--but then it started moving around). Anyway, when my Celiac panel came back suggestive, doc set up endo and told me that he thinks I have celiac disease, but...

ARCHIVED Kidney Infection...maybe Stones?
Karina replied to angel-jd1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jessica, Wow, I am so sorry to hear you are not kicking the infection. You are on a lot of antibiotics, so that means the good AND bad bacteria is getting killed off. You may really want to consider taking some acidophilus. You would want the kind from a health-food store that is refridgerated and had 1 million organisms/(I don't know what). I wouldn... -
ARCHIVED Painful To Sit For Very Long
Karina replied to LindaB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, I have some pretty funky abdominal pain, I don't know if it similar to what you are experiencing. I have tender "spots" at different points on my abdomen. Recently, they have been in two spots about two inches above my naval, and about four inches apart (I guess that is pretty much right below the rib cage). I don't seem to notice it as much when... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Work-up
Karina replied to SharonP's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sharon, Yes, I lost the weight without any difficulty after having both my babies--I nursed them both for over a year so I'm sure that contributed to the weight loss. I had quite a time trying to gain weight during my pregnancies, and I had to take iron. My last child had to be induced because the placenta started deteriorating--and the doc said he didn... -
ARCHIVED Kidney Infection...maybe Stones?
Karina replied to angel-jd1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jessica, I am not yest sure if I have celiac disease (waiting on biopsy results), but I have had a few kidney problems. When I was pregnant I got hydronepehrosis and a stone--I guess it passed--it did get better. Afew months ago I got a terrible kidney infection that almost put me in the hospital--it did take a good week to start feeling normal again... -
Hi, I have not yet been diagnosed with celiac disease--I had one positive antibody on the Celiac panel and yesterday had and endoscopy, and I do fit many of the better known celiac disease symptoms--so we will see. However, a few years ago, I WAS formally diagnosed with hypoglycemia through a five hour glucose tolerance test. My doc said just to keep...

ARCHIVED Celiac Work-up
Karina replied to SharonP's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sharon, I just read your post and can say I understand at least to some degree how you feel. I identify with many of your symptoms and I too, am waiting on the results of my endoscopy, which I had done yesterday. I am 30 and since the birth of my daughter 2 years ago, I have dealt with one illness after the other. It started with a stomach virus, just... -
If a Dr is board certified then there are a certain amount of continuing education requirements--the docs could tell you what exactly these must entail. For nurses it depends on the state we practice in. I come from a state that is very strict on certification--but in the state I now live in nurses are not required to have continuing ed. (which is TERRIBLE...

Sara, I appreciated your post! It is easy for things to get out of hand on a public board like this one in terms of giving and receiving medical advice. What I have found is that physicians serve a very important role in healthcare when it comes to diagnosis. In the states, medical treatment is often limited to medication and surgery. Few physicians...

I am not sure exacltly what was on my celiac blood panel. A couple of IgG's and a couple of IgA's and one other thing starting with a T I THINK, what I am wondering is what specific blood tests would be considered diagnostic. I ask this because I have noticed that different people had different ones done, and I don't know what the difference is. Karina

ARCHIVED Abdominal Pressure Points Or Tender Spots?
Karina replied to Karina's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Steph, Goodluck with your move! Are you originally from the UK? I have seen some posts here from people in the UK and someone here may be helpful in helping you find a good doc. I am sure these boards will be hearing from me for a little while at least as I find my way around all this. I really hope you find out what is causing your pains--I hope you... -
Theresa, Thanks for the reply! I need to ask my doc what happens if this endo is "normal". He was quick to think I have celiac disease--he said it is much more prevalent than what was once thought (obviously), but he said if I had it I don't have to "do" anything if I don't want. After researching, I am thinking how could he say that? I am a poster...

Sarah, Thanks for sharing. I am learning a lot by reading various posts, including yours. I feel like evetually I will figure out what is going on with me. I have that endoscopy at the end of March so right now? Right now I am going to eat all the gluten I can Karina
