  1. Hang in there. My daughter (2 years old) was diagnosed four months ago. I gave myself permission for a month to just be overwhelmed and knew that I would have to go through the process of figuring it all out. After that month, although it was still a little overwhelming, it was definately easier. Now we are just in a groove. Just as the other posts mentioned...
  2. Kayla is 25 months old. The last time we weighed her, she was 21 pounds. She has been between 20 and 21 pounds for the past year so we are hoping that she very quickly starts gaining weight (we hope). Maya
  3. Thanks for all the good advice. We have a doctor's appointment later this month and I am praying that some of the changes we are making help her grow. In the mean time, at least she is a MUCH happier little girl. Take care, Maya
  4. Thanks for your input. Kayla just turned 2 a couple weeks ago. She can't have dairy and doesn't really like peanut butter. Thank goodness she is a fan of avocados and olives! What are some things we should have her tested for? We already checked for cystic fibrosis and (thank goodness), she does not have this. I am now wondering whether she has other food...
  5. Hi. My daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease about three months ago. During the first month of gluten-free eating, she gained a full pound and ate like there was no tomorrow. The next month, she lost a half pound. This month she has only gained 5 ounces. Her moods have improved as have her bowels, but I know she should be gaining weight more rapidly...
  6. Hi. Don't be too discouraged yet. My little girl will be two in ten days and was diagnosed about two months ago. It took a good three weeks before her diarhea started to improve. Also, she gained about a pound the first month, but because she was feeling so much better and was so much more active, she lost a half pound afterwards. The point is, my VERY limited...
  7. Thanks for all the good ideas. We'll definately try them this week!! Take care, Maya
  8. Hi, My toddler was diagnosed with celiac disease about two months ago. She initially gained a pound, but lost a half pound this last month. The doctor suggested that I give her high-fat foods. The problem is that my daughter has a milk allergy. Does anyone know of some high fat foods that are dairy-free? (By the way, I gave her McDonald's french fries...

  10. Thank you so much for all the replies. It's nice to know that I am not alone in this! I think I am starting to get used to all this, but I am so nervous all the time about what to feed Kayla, what will we do when she goes to daycare, etc. A couple questions I still have are: 1. Do you buy the $5 bread or do you bake bread yourselves? 2. How diligent...
  11. My husband and I first heard of celiac disease on Monday and yesterday we got our confirmation (from a blood test) that our daughter has celiac disease. Actually, I am grateful to actually have an explanation for why our daughter is so tiny and not growing. I am quite overwhelmed with how to cook for my family now. Does anyone know of a good cookbook or website...
